HAP-py New Year!
Better late than never, eh?
Ben and I spent the entire day yesterday being huge blobs relaxing to the ultimate fullest. Flannel pants, slippers, pizza, beer and football were involved… Hey, we did make it out to the mall for an impromptu shoe buying sesh!
Not a productive way to get 2011 started, but definitely a fun one.
We didn’t get around to popping the Trader Joe’s Almond Champagne on New Year’s Eve, so we pulled the flutes out last night to fill up with bubbly.
Well…tried to anyways. That cork was NOT coming out of that bottle!
“I am a total pro at opening champagne bottles – watch this.”
“Hey wait, why won’t this open? Seriously, it’s stuck!”
“NO, I don’t want your help!”
“Maybe if I wrestle with it for a bit… Fine, you try.”
“Easy.”
*grunt*
“oooohhh? No. Shoot.”
“Let’s get a little twisting action going.”
“WTH, Trader Joe’s?!”
“Ohhhh…ohhhh!!”
“Wheee!!!”
“Your champagne, milady.”
“My hero.”
Jersey Shore reruns followed and, well, here we are today! With a Bacon & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich to boot!
I’d been thinking about the one I made last week ever since I sunk my teeth into the sweet & savory, squishy sandwich, so I had to re-create today.
That’d be a cinnamon-raisin bagel topped with melted, cheddar cheese, local bacon and a drizzle of maple syrup.
No eggs this time because when I went to open the egg carton, it was…empty. I wonder how that happened? Cough, husband, cough.
Still mouth-watering, nonetheless, and enjoyed with a steamy mug of Chocolate Donut Coffee in my New Orleans Starbucks mug!
Ben and I have been missing New Orleans like woah lately. It’s seriously rivaling my love for all cities in California. That’s. HUGE.
We’re thinking about trying to make a return trip this summer. Fingers crossed!
I’ve got a million things going on this afternoon!
- Packing up some stuff to send to some people (vague…)
- Clean the kitchen
- Grocery shop
- Lunch at my parents
- Work out
- Make dinner
If all goes well today, I’ll be attempting a new (to me) cooking technique this afternoon for dinner. I’m excited.
Talk to you soon!
~~~~~
Complete this sentence: “This year I want to _______.”
This year I want to not put off ’til tomorrow what I can do today. I’ve always been a procrastinator, and this year my goal is to not put things off ’til “tomorrow” or “someday” when I can do them right now. This can be as small as returning an email when I get it, instead of starring it for later then never coming back to it, to more important items like calling a friend I haven’t talked to in months.
Someday is such a toxic word, I think. I don’t want to wake up 10 years from now with a whole list of things I wanted to do someday but never got around to. Make TODAY your someday!
Also, this year I want to continue to be more aware of the ingredients in the food that I’m eating. I eat 70/30 healthy/splurgy, so it’s mostly the “30″ I want to focus more on. Ie don’t eat junk food that has a bazillion chemicals and weird ingredients in them, just because it tastes good right now!
Oh, and never eat fried foods again. Ben and I got some fries while we were out yesterday and, per usual, they made me feel so gross today!
Your idea of “not putting off tomorrow what you can do today” is totally our motto for this year! We even wrote it on the little chalkboard in our kitchen as motivation
Looks like we have a lot of the same goals! I’m the worst procrastinator! I need to get on that! Good luck with your goals this year!
I LOVE this. I have also always been a procrastinator. This is on my list of goals too!
I want to stay positive and proactive in my life! I think that will make 2011 very fun!
Happy New Year! 2011 will be full of painting projects around my house. It’s time and I just need to just do it. Like Nike!
This year, I just want to be content. I always think, things would be better if our apartment was somewhere else, if continued running consistently after completing my marathon, or if I did xyz instead of abc. I just want to be content with ALL that I have been blessed with. That’s not say I don’t have dreams, goals, aspirations for the future…it’s just I don’t always fully appreciate the life I’ve been blessed with.
I also want to continue being fiscally responsible too. We’ve been able to save a lot of money since getting married, and I want to continue doing that.
Happy 2011!
Not be so wasteful with food! Seriously, we throw away so much and it’s starting to get to me. I need to get more on top of using ingredients wisely and my freezer more so that I don’t throw away as much. I’ve managed to stick to a strict grocery list for the last year, now I need to make sure that all the things I’m buying are actually being consumed. Silly, but it adds up! Which reminds me…all of the TJ’s around here don’t seem to sell alcohol!!! Happy 2011!!!
This year I want to save enough to afford a new furnace!
And work on being healthier overall–I’ve kind of let myself go recently, and I want to try & get back on track.
This year I want to get way better at doing yoga! : )
I have those same slippers as you (Muk Luks?)! You should totally make a flip book of all the champagne-opening pictures. It would be hilarious! The breakfast sandwich looks amazing (yet again!)! Have a fun day!
OMGosh, that was sooooo funny! Cute!!! Happy New Year.. um.. again!
I’ve always been a procrastinator too and it really needs to stop! Perhaps this year I’ll make an effort to do things today!
the whole fried food thing…… well thats totally unrealistic! bar food is amazing! a new years resolution well i have never really done that….. but i am trying to have a fit & active healthy lifestyle
I know, I was semi-joking. I could never give up state fair corn dogs!
ooo that bagel looks so good! xx
I am also a procrastinator and Im not good at sticking with stuff! Ive recently learned how to sew and knit so this year I would like to stick to my new hobbies and learn a lot! Also I want to learn to manage my finances better!
This year I want to enjoy the moment, even if it doesn’t go as planned. I have a bad habit of thinking about I should have done differently instead of just making the most of the situation, regardless. I also want to take my German to the next level…got a couple novels written in German. …oh, and I should stop procrastinating, too.
This year I want to GO TO BED EARLIER
This means I need to disconnect earlier (tv, internet, you name it!)
You and Ben are hilarious! Looks like you had a good time.
This year I want to make the most of every opportunity and say yes more.
Your bagel sandwich looks delicious! This year I want to work on being more patient!
This year I want to serve [others]. That’s my word of the year! If we all thought in those terms [serving others] our own lives would be far richer as we enriched the lives of others.
You’re so pretteeee!!
I like that half of your to-list today revolves around food =]
i totally agree. i’m the queen of procrastinators!
also, i was cracking up at the pictures of you guys trying to open the champagne bottle. that would be me too. only somehow i would’ve probably dropped the bottle and there would be glass and champagne all over the floor!
Haha great champagne antics!
Awesome goals! I’m an awful procrastinator, so that’d be a good one for me too!
And can I just say you are GORGEOUS!
…buy a house! We should be closing in a week or two. Fingers crossed for us – renting sucks!!!
I agree with BOTH of your resolutions! Last night on Netflix I saw Food, Inc. and I am planning to watch it very soon! I think that might help me make better food decisions! Have you ever seen it or heard any reviews?
I just watched it a couple weeks ago, and nothing has ever made me want to change my eating habits more. WATCH IT!
“This year I want to…” shed unneeded clutter and organize my home. We’re moving at the end of the month to a duplex that isn’t much bigger than the space we already have, but moving is a great excuse to go through everything and shed, shed, shed. Fingers crossed we’ll be successful so our new space will feel cozy, but spacious and clean.
Nooo I just bought the Fry Daddy but I plan on making things like truffle fries not anything over the top crazy though. Btw I have already watched half of Pillars of the earth… ADDICTING!
I can’t wait to try that almond champagne, and to try my hand at making that bagel sandwich! Love your blog!
Where did you find the chocolate donut coffee? That sounds amazing! To complete the sentence…This year I want to be more consistent with going to the gym!
Bed, Bath & Beyond! It’s a Keurig K-cup!
Hahahahahaha – the champagne episode definitely made me laugh.
Happy 2011, Kristin!
xoxo
hope you guys enjoyed the champagne!! i just wanted to say i love your blog-i read a few that i follow everyday (my family makes total fun of me) but i just have to say yours is my favorite-you eat real food and it seems like you have a fun time with your husband but really it all goes down to the fact that you watch teen mom. i mean come on, its really the best show out there
I am also resolving to use my time more productively and quit procrastinating. I.am.the.WORST!
Anyway, I’m trying this challenge for setting priorities and goals: http://www.chalenejohnson.com/30daychallenge/members/how-to-determine-priorities.html
So I was missing NOLA today too, and I made homemade red beans and rice based (VERY loosely) on this recipe:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/red-beans-and-rice-recipe2/index.html
It’s really good! I would highly recommend it if you liked red beans and rice there. It’s definitely a comfort food, but in a NOLA way.
I just simplified everything he did, and I used andouille sausage instead of all the ham stuff. Just chopped it up. Red kidney beans from a can, too, and then green pepps and onion! AMAZING!
That is SUCH a great sentence! I am a procrastinator too, and am trying to get out of putting things off. Besides eating, of course, I NEVER put that off.
Just discovered your blog and LOVE it!! My hubby and I are huge NOLA fans as well By far one of my favorite cities. I have a college friend that lives there with his wife (a NOLA native), so they fill us in on all kinds of ‘local’ secrets/favorites. I’ve been itching for a trip for sure – it’s been almost 2 years!
This year I want to run a half marathon! And I signed up for one so looks like I am going to follow through
I love those champagne opening pics – they’re so funny!
So is your kitchen upstairs…?
Also this year I want to be less of a procrastinator as well. I’d also love to run the OKC half marathon! Must train…must train!
I totally need to work on my procrastination too. Happy New Year!
