The IGE Store

Good morning – TGIF!

Took an un-plugged night last night. Do you ever do that? I find myself getting so obsessed with checking Twitter, Facebook and the Crackberry that sometimes I just have to slowly back away. Don’t make too much noise…just slowly. back. away… ;)

Plus, I was busy loving all over this puppy: my new kindle!!!!!

DSC_0016

Ben so thoughtfully surprised me with an iPod Nano for Christmas, but we decided since I don’t really run to music, that I’d get more use out of a Kindle.

DSC_0020

The Kindle uses "e-ink" on a matte surface, so it really feels like you’re reading a newspaper/book, without the glare of a regular computer screen. That was a big selling point for me – one can only stare at that bright screen for so long!

DSC_0026

I bought a case in what other color but hot pink, which even has an extendable reading light. Sweet.

DSC_0028

An hour or cough, two, cough might have been spent playing free games on this baby last night too… ;) Hello! Minesweeper!

DSC_0023

FYI – I created my own Amazon Store where you can buy a Kindle along with a ton of other stuff. I created categories for Kitchen Essentials, Camera & Electronics, Health & Beauty (including the Teaze!) and more! I’ll add stuff when I think you’ll dig it. :)

This morning I dug into a big bowl of Organic Kashi Island Vanilla cereal with unsweetened vanilla almond breeze and a banana for breakfast.

DSC_0003

I despise soggy cereal, but I kind of like it when "biscuit" cereal can soak up some of the good stuff.

DSC_0006

Especially when its unsweetened vanilla almond breeze! It, combined with the subtly sweet cereal, made for an awesome bowl.

DSC_0009

In other news, I woke up to wind and snow this morning, so this girl isn’t going ANYWHERE today!

DSC_0010

Well, hopefully I can make it out for a workout, but other than that I’m staying right here in my Muk Luks. :)

DSC_0011

Have a great day!

Do you buy or are you concerned with buying organic products, outside of just produce?

What are you reading right now?

Nice gift! I used to think I would hate a Kindle, but the more I think about it the more I can see its usefulness.

I’m reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series right now.

Hey seeing your scrapper blade at your store reminded me… have you seen this one http://bit.ly/gNbDU2. I bought one at the Cooking Emporium in Ames for my sis-in-law. Works great. Don’t have to worry about the “teeth” falling off since it’s one smooth piece!!

Thanks for sharing the store! Have a great friday!

I care most about organic produce (and dairy), but depending on the price, I don’t worry much about organic whole grains. I’m reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. It’s amazing!

I try to buy organic products as much as I can!

My mom loves her kindle – my dad bought her the new one for xmas as her old one wasn’t working very well.

Kashi Island Vanilla is one of my favorite cereals – I like it more straight out of the box.

By the way, I love you cereal bowl! So cheerful for a breakfast meal.

A Kindle is just for reading books, periodicals, etc. It does have a browser, but it’s in black and white and not too functional. An iPad is basically (from my understanding) like a dumbed-down laptop/souped-up iPhone. In a perfect world I probably would have gotten an iPad, but they’re expensive, and I liked that the Kindle doesn’t have a “computer screen” glare!

I loved the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, just finished “The Blind Assassin” by Margaret Atwood (highly recommend anything by her, especially “The Handmaid’s Tail”. Currently reading “Gaia: A New Look at Life on Earth” by James Lovelock.

I LOVE my kindle! I take it with me to work everyday, reading it on the bus as well as on my breaks. It was a surprise gift that I received from my Dad last Christmas. I’ve had it for over a year now and have only paid for a few books. I regularly check the Top 100 Free books on the Kindle site and have read a lot of really great, FREE, books that I never would have heard of otherwise! The titles sometimes are hit or miss, a lot of them are Christian fiction or romance, which isn’t my thing, but there are quite often great mystery/crime novels that I love! Right now, I’m reading Little Women, but next up I’m going to read The Hangman’s Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch. Have fun with your new toy!!

Yes I definitely eat organic – especially the Dirty 13: apples, bell peppers, carrots, celery, cherries, grapes, kale, lettuce, nectarines, peaches, pears, strawberries, and potatoes and of course my meats too chicken – grass fed beef etc. Unless it has a really thick skin like banana, oranges or avocados I don’t mind paying the extra cost for the organic version. I also don’t cook or store anything in plastic because of the BPA. Jillian Michael’s book does a great job of outlining the health benefits of eating organic – check it out! : )

  26. Comment Callout

Aside from produce, I like to buy organic non-GMO tofu and organic dairy. I’m a vegetarian, so meat isn’t an issue.

The Kindle looks neat! That would definitely be a selling point for me as well, I would hate to have the glare of the computer screen for so long! As for the organic issue…I try to buy organic produce whenever I can, but being in college I’m tight on money. But I do also try to buy organic meat. I recently watched Food, Inc. and read Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food and am currently reading his Omnivore’s Dilemma so I am learning a lot. It is definitely opening my eyes! Since organic meat is so expensive, I am sticking more to veggie foods and grain and wild fish based meals. I would like to keep learning more though!

I’ve been drooling over the Kindle, but I can’t get past the $10/book price. I do all my shopping at Amazon – for household goods like paper towels, TP, shampoo, etc. I haven’t been to a Wal-Mart or Target in over a year! Amazon saves me so much time.

Personally, I don’t buy organic produce because of the cost. Just wash an apple before you eat it, and you’ll get rid of any residue. I do love Kashi cereals, however. But I buy them for the taste, not because they are organic.

I try to buy organic items such as apples, strawberries, carrots, green onions… I’ve purchased organic milk, but it is super expensive here – $8 for a gallon. I’m trying to watch for items with chemicals in them, less salt, sugar, fat, etc.

  45. Kristin from MN 01.07.2011

We try to buy “all natural” products – no artificial flavors and colors. Besides that I like to buy organic produce (the dirty dozen) but many items aren’t available to me or are way too overpriced. I like to buy eggs with added omega-3′s and try to buy local especially in the summer. Also, when I buy ground beef or ground turkey, I buy it in the tube or from a butcher, not in a see-thru carton because that has most likely been injected with artificial coloring. I plan to have my first garden this spring. I have read that produce from your garden and locally produced has by far way less chemicals than commercially produced.
