Howdy!
Weekend with my friends went GREAT. Saturday even ended with a dance off onstage at the local watering hole. A sure sign of a successful trip, no?
Yesterday we laid around all…day…long making pizza, watching the Bears Game – then tuning into the Golden Globes.
I usually don’t get sucked into awards shows, but for some reason I watched the entire red carpet and awards ceremony. Who am I? Some favorite dresses included:
Sofia Vergara – I loved how she was all, “yes, I know I look awesome.” You go girl!
Lea Michele – I WANT her teeth. They are SO perfect! Have you ever noticed?
Eva Longoria – I like how she’s super short, but doesn’t look super short. Gives hope to all us 5’2 and below’ers out there!
Did not love Julianne Moore’s look. Sorry, it had to be said.
Whose looks did you love/hate?
At any rate, I don’t have work today, because of the holiday, so I was up bright and early to get some grocery shopping done for the week.
UMM I WAS 1 OF 3 PEOPLE IN TRADER JOE’S. 1 of 3 people! It was absolutely amazing! Free to saunter and shop without the crush of hundreds of other eager shoppers. Loved it!
I think in an ideal world I would always do my grocery shopping on Mondays. That way all your produce is super fresh for the week, etc. Yeah, I really liked it.
Treated myself to a short, skinny, no-foam vanilla Starbucks latte while I was out.
Apparently Starby’s new logo hasn’t made it to central Iowa yet! We’ll get there.
Then whipped up a light breakfast of an English Muffin with butter at home.
Like I always say – it’s the simple tastes in life that I really adore. Hot, toasty bread + butter = the best.
In other news, this weekend I discovered the sad fact that Google Calendar doesn’t actually do your to-do’s, rather, it just organizes them. Drat. Therefore, today will be a catch up day.
I am already SO excited for dinner tonight, though. It’s CHEESY. Stay tuned!

What did your high school prom dress look like?
My sophomore year I wore this hideous, pale-yellow ball gown with a poofy skirt, spaghetti straps and like, sparkly daisies or something, on top. My senior year dress was this awesome, white-satin, strapless princess-type dress with silver, sparkly sequins on top. I LOVED it, until I showed up and another girl I knew well was wearing the exact same thing. Standard!

At 5 1 and 3/4 (yes I round up!) Eva does give hope for the small people!
For prom I wore a puffy white princess gown with a lavendar sash around the middle and purple flower sequins on the top. It was pretty.
I refused to wear a long gown for some reason, even though almost everyone did. I wore a ruched fuschia knee length body fitting dress which was slightly off the shoulders. I admit it was a bit 80s. My prom was in 2007.
I’m kind of bummed that I missed the Golden Globes – I didn’t think ROB PATTINSON would be there!! SWOOOOON!!
I really liked Anne Hathaway’s look – it was an odd dress, but she pulled it off! Megan Fox looked skeletal, though :-/
Anyways, my prom dress was completely opposite of what I expected to get, but I loved it all the same! It was coral pink, strapless w/ a beaded top and it was a mermaid shape
I saw at the gym today that Starbucks is coming out with a 31 ounce drink. Called the trenta. They should just call it ginormous!
My favorite prom dress had to be the one I wore senior year. I actually borrowed it from my cousin (score!): a magenta strapless BCBG dress with a black bow at the bodice. Not too poofy, either. I didn’t have to worry about anyone wearing my dress because my small school only allowed juniors & seniors to go (translated into: about 100 or so of us). I guess that’s one upside of a small prom!
My favorite prom dress was my senior year. It was simple, classic and soo pretty. Pretty much just satin with crossing straps in the back and the color was my favorite, it was called iridescent lilac! I still have it! Not sure if it fits though… :/
I still wish I could wear all my prom dresses. My one junior year looked like a wedding dress. I hate not getting to go to dances anymore!
Juliann Moore’s outfit is a little scary, gotta say!
I got sucked into the globes as well, I loved Emma Stone’s look!
I loved my senior prom dress, it was black and white, simple but classy! I don’t think I could fit into now
I LOVED Eva’s dress! Makes me love being 5′ 2″ even more;)
Slash now I want pizza.
I read that the new SBUX logo doesn’t roll out until March, so don’t worry, it’s not just Iowa that doesn’t have it yet =D
I read an article from money.com that said the new Starbucks logo is expected to rollout in March… so don’t worry you’re not behind! They also said to expect some more new things around spring time… interesting….
Enjoy your day off… I’m working away! I don’t know why though, the stock market isn’t even open!!! Dislike.
Junior year- a blue dress with silver threads through it with a black lace overlay that had subtle flowers in it. Beaded spaghetti straps and a back that laced up like a corset. sigh. I love that dress. I haven’t worn it in 9 years, though. Wow, I just made myself feel old…
Junior prom I wore a navy blue sort of sheath dress with spaghetti straps and a tulle flouncy thing at the neck line. Awesome. Senior year I wore a tight on top, poofy on the bottom big fancy dress and it was that iridescent sometimes blue sometimes purple color that was oh so popular in 2000. I waited to buy my dress too long and everything in the store was either too big or I knew someone else that had the dress already….so mine was like 2 sizes too big and you could see all the way down the front. Great. I want a do over.
My junior year prom dress was a peachy pink and it had beads everywhere. My senior year was a sky/icy blue and it was more simple. Sad thing is…after prom, there really aren’t many more opportunites to get all fancied up. Except for sorority formals, but I never dressed up quite as much for those.
My first prom dress was white with black polka-dots. I liked my second dress a little more, it was pale pink and made me look like Kirsten Dunst.
My prom dress reminded everyone of the dress T Swift wears in her “Love Story” music video. I love it!
Sounds like an awesome weekend. My junior prom dress was BLA but my senior prom dress was the balls- yellow ball gown style!
I do all my grocery shopping (Trader Joe’s) on Sunday mornings at 8 am. NO ONE is there, it’s great!
I LOVED Emma Stones coral dress!
And my highschool prom dress junior year was black, long, and form fitting. Senior year it was a teal funky cocktail dress!
my prom dress was purple with sequins and beads covering the whole dress. i loved it! it had spaghetti straps… not many people in my HS did the strapless thing but when my sis was in HS everyone did
it’s so weird when i think about it now, but mine totally looked like a wedding gown! it was silvery-white and super sparkly
I went to prom all four years — and I have to say, the year I borrowed a dress was the best (it was fully beaded, navy and silver) — the other years were fully beaded black, and TWO-PIECE?! dresses my Jr and Sr year — one was a peachy color — the other was royal blue and silver. Oh my! We need to get pictures posted!!
I didnt go to prom, however I did go to the homecoming dance. My friend at the time was just as strange as I was so we decided to go together with one guy as our date. We were in drama class and borrowed 80s prom dresses from the costume closet and showed up looking like we were straight from Pretty in Pink! No one knew about it till that night so everyone thought it was soo cool. This was in 2001 BTW.
i was one of about 3 people in my gym this morning, which sucked because my only entertainment is to watch other people workout in the mirror!
love love love watching fashion
I finally made to to W. Des Moines’ Trader Joe’s on Sunday and it was packed! I really liked it though, but couldn’t stay long for fear of being crushed. My favorite item I scoared was tomatoless salsa. It sounds weird, but oh soooo good.
I always try to get to Trader Joe’s super early, so I am one of the only shoppers in the store. It is so awesome to have the place basically to yourself, isn’t it? The clerks usually always comment on how smart I am to get there before the crowds rolls in.
In grade 11 (Junior year in the states) I wore a gorrrrgeous black dress with these sheer, lacy of the shoulder black cap sleeves. But for my own prom for some reason I thought I should go all out and wore a POOFY BRIGHT RED BALL GOWN. It was hideous and not classy at all! I remember coming down the stairs expecting my mom to say how beautiful I looked, but she sort of looked at me and was like “Um…you look…um…” She probably thought I was nuts! I definitely was – but at least I have photos to laugh at.
My favorite prom dress was my Junior Prom. It was a pretty pink strapless number that I got for (NO LIE) $15 off a clearance rack!!! Of course, I compensated by having shoes dyed-to-match. (OH, yes, I DID!) The dress had a matching shawl, that I planned to shrug all evening because I was SO self-concious about my body, but I ended up dropping it in the mud after dinner. Glad I was able to get over it and have fun, anyway.
I also miss getting dressed up for dances! Second to theatre, it’s the only thing I really miss about high school.
I’ve been thinking about you today–tried my first Larabar this morning. It was a PB&J one that I picked up…in SEPTEMBER! I’ve been afraid to try it–not sure WHY–but it was delicious! Can’t wait to try more flavors, but wish they weren’t so darn expensive!
MMMmmmm…..I might just have to pull out the picture of the white dress! It was my favorite too:)
My senior prom dress was kind of ridiculous now that I look back on it. It was white, kind of sheer chiffon, and TWO pieces. Ya, kind of risque. But I guess I had a soccer player’s body so I pulled it off somehow. I guess the important thing was that I liked it at the time and I had a great time at prom. But next time I go to a formal…I’ll keep it to one piece : )
I’m in Chicago and we do not have new Starbucks logos either!
I went to Trader Joes yesterday during the Bears game. Not as empty as I had hoped, but for sure emptier than a normal Sunday afternoon. I’m glad most Chicagoans were home watching the game!
I love a good dance off! Ok, go all the way back to 1991 and my junior prom dress was not good. We didn’t have a lot of $$ to work with or time so I grabbed the cheapest, most modest dress (mom was buying) I could find. It was peach, had huge bows on the shoulder and at the back. Ick. I lurved my date and he looked so cute in the tux! I saved up some serious $$ for senior prom and rocked a HOT pink, short bubble skirt, strapless number with major sequins. I loved that dress and didn’t like my date. We had to have dates back in the olden dayz.
I even got dyed shoes to match! HA!
One of my favorites was Olivia Wilde. Her dress was so pretty.
My dress was emerald green. It had sparkly, thicker straps and was a bit low cut!!
I went to Trader Joe’s on Saturday (I was temporarily out of my mind) along with 900 other people. The gal checking me out said to come Monday through Wednesday, so you picked well!
I bought my Junior year prom dress in January and put on some weight between then and prom. So a week before, I tried it on and it didn’t zip up! I quickly talked to my wrestling friend who helped me out and gave me a couple of tips to trim down in a healthy way (think raw food diet for 7 straight days)… needless to say, I fit in the dress and had the best meal of my life that night!
I so wish I had today off to catch up and grocery shop! Although I had a chance to go to TJ’s yesterday and saw CHOCOLATE COVERED peanut butter filled pretzels and thought you might care to know
Forgive me but I’m about to do a “kids these days…” mini-rant.
Kids these days don’t wear long prom dresses! I remember being shocked at my senior prom (’03) when *ONE* girl showed-up in a very short Brintey Spears-inspired frock. Now it’s all they wear. And worse, it’s usually some cheap thing from Forever 21/Not Yet 21 they will regret years later when they look back at pictures.
So to all the young women, let me just say this: You will have many occasions in your life to wear short, adorable cocktail dresses. You probably won’t have many occasions to wear floor-length gowns. Don’t deprive yourself when you have the chance!
Signed,
Jessica McClintock
I thought Julianne Moore looked AMAZING in Lanvin. I think she pulled off the hot pink so well.
And thank goodness there was so much color at this year’s Golden Globes! My favorites were January Jones, Claire Danes and Emma Stone. <3
