This weekend doesn’t have to end yet, does it?
It’s been a fabu mix of work and play, mixed with some gorgeous weather, and has gone by way too fast!
This morning and afternoon was more work than play, and I started with a trip to the grocery store. I got a HUGE haul while enjoying a nice No-Foam Skinny Vanilla Starbucks Latte while I shopped.
I usually wait until I leave to grab a drink from the in-store Starby’s, but I was nearly blown over by a freezing cold wind gust on my way in and needed something to warm up with. I liked it!
Anywho, here’s my loot – combined with a few items I got at Trader Joe’s yesterday:
Fridge & Freezer Items
(With yogurt price comparisons, for fun!)
- Skim milk
- Trader Joe’s extra-firm tofu
- French Vanilla coffee creamer
- AE Plain Greek Yogurt ($.99/6oz)
- 2 Mango Chobani Greek Yogurts ($1.50/6oz)
- AE fat-free cottage cheese
- Mozzarella string cheese
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Shredded cheddar jack cheese
- Corn tortillas
- Raspberry Noosa Yoghurt ($2.50/8oz)
- Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake
- Chopped frozen spinach
Meat & Fish
- Trader Joe’s Curry Chicken Tenders
- Frozen chicken breasts
- Smart chicken breasts
- La Quercia prosciutto
Pantry Items
- 3 Clif Kid Honey Graham Z-Bars
- Trader Joe’s animal crackers (total post-Water for Elephants impulse purchase!)
- Canned corn
- Trader Joe’s brown basmati rice
- Mango butter
- Enchilada sauce
Produce
- Green beans
- Cantaloupe
- 2 mangoes
- Avocado
- Broccoli florets
- Strawberries
- Lettuce blend
- Baby spinach
- Fresh basil
- 4 kiwi
All for…$80. I knoooow. I went WAY over budget this week. $20 over! Some impulse purchases like mango butter & animal crackers, and a TON of chicken helped contribute to the cost. You can never have too much chicken though, I feel.
After I put all the groceries away, I ate freelance projects all afternoon. Just a perk of the job!
Broiled Fruit for breakfast…
and a juicy Cheeseburger for lunch!
I’ll share the recipes when they’re published elsewhere!
3pm rolled around and my darling husband rescued me from the kitchen and my laptop, which I had barely budged from all day. Later laptop, hello tennis courts!
Ben and I started playing tennis when we moved to Minneapolis after college. He bought us rackets for my 23rd birthday (omg to be 23 again!) and we played at least 3 times a week at the courts by his house at the time.
4 years later and we’re still no good – but we sure have a good time trying!
It actually works out pretty well because we get an awesome workout in chasing after all those balls. We’re completely exhausted by the time we’re done.
The couple that plays (poorly) together, stays together!
After dragging ourselves off the courts, we walked down the street to visit with some friends who just had a baby, then headed to Chipotle for dinner!
I’ve told you before that Chipotle for dinner on Sundays is somewhat of a weekly tradition for us – plus the winner of America’s Next Great Restaurant, co-hosted by the founder of Chipotle is announced tonight, so we thought it was very fitting.
Not that we need an excuse though. Chipotle’s the best! Rice, black beans, chicken, pico de gallo, and green Tabasco sauce – FTW!
I am super pumped to find out who wins Next Great Restaurant tonight. Ben and I are going to be in Minneapolis next weekend so we’re going to try and eat at the winner’s restaurant while we’re there. I’m crossing my fingers for Spice Coast! I just love Indian food and it’d be so nice to have it available in a Chipotle type restaurant. Who are you rooting for?
Off to go frown at the setting sun. I don’t want this weekend to end!
Have a great Monday everyone!

What do you and your sweetie like to do together?
Ben and I like walks and playing tennis. We also like eating candy together. I know – we’re 10.

Yum – broiled/grilled pineapple is one of my favorite summertime desserts!
I can not wait to watch the last episode of Next Great Restaurant, although I will have to wait until it hits Hulu tomorrow. I hope Spice Coast wins as well – and then plan on hitting it up the next time we are in MN.
Nic and I like spending time in the kitchen together…him cleaning up after I leave a huge mess while preparing breakfast/lunch/dinner!
Really, we like to wake up early on the weekends and head out for super long runs (me) and bike rides (him) followed by a huge breakfast + multiple pots of coffee. These are the best days ever!
Spice Coast all the way!
OMG, ARE THOSE SCALLOPS ON THAT BURGER? that, uh, looks really good….
I sadly have no sweetie right now, so I can’t answer today’s question..sniff.
I would list walks and eating candy together as two of the activities that my fiance and I enjoy the most, too! Just give us a bag of Jelly Beans and we will sit together in contentment on the couch until one of us realizes how much we are eating and “hides” the bag so that we don’t make ourselves sick! Hahaha!
Sounds like a wonderful weekend!
Well I hang out a lot with my best friend Suave Slav – he and I like to dance, go to movies, travel, and just have a good time together.
My boyffriend and I like to work out together and cook together! If I’m lucky, I can convince him to clean with me as well!
I’m hoping Spice Coast wins as well!
I was totally inspired by you today at Hy-Vee to buy the Blue Bunny birthday ice cream sandwich cookies today after seeing all of the Blue Bunny goodies on your blog, and they are SO yummy! I might have even had two of them today
My boyfriend and I went and played a 9-hole par 3 golf course last night…Neither of us were playing super awesome, but it was nice to be outside and doing something together!
Sounds like a fun day! We love to walk and take rides… and play Words with Friends together!
My sweetie and I are separated by distance right now as he’s in a year long advanced training program for military officers. He reads to me from our favorite authors before we go to sleep.
We made burrito bowlstonight and the kids asked if we could do it every week, too. They chow down on grilled veggies and pico de gallo when we make them. What a great tradition.

IGE, Check out my shadow shots from Janurary~!!!
Fun!!!!
What a fun post! My sweetie and I love to ride bike to get icecream…burning calories to replace them asap.
Fun post. John and I like to go on bike rides and walks together. But tennis is definitely something we’ve been talking about trying this spring!
Can you puh-leeeeez call my HyVee and tell them to get an in-store Starbucks?! And carts with cupholders?? Thanks lady! ;D
Eating candy together is totally acceptable at ANY age. It sounds weird, but I love just driving around with my hubby…and we did a bit of that yesterday
We actually played tennis this afternoon too…super windy, but still nice to be outside with some sunshine!!
Also, I made my first recipe from your blog last night – BBQ Chicken Quesadillas. They were awesome! Thanks for the idea.
We love running together and when the weather allows for it – golfing!
My bf and I play tons of board games together and like to go for walks. Yesterday we walked all over downtown Portland, did some shopping, and then played some card games at outdoor seating at a Starbuck’s. He also lives close enough to a Trader Joe’s so we walk there all the time too!
we like to run together…and play tennis, but we are b-a-d!
We like to go for walks! Or (this started in college), drive around on gravel roads with Dr. Pepper and Twinkies (don’t worry, it’s a very occasional thing!).
BAHHHAHAHA I love this!
Sounds like something we would totally do too
Sounds fun!
My husband and I like to grill out together and watch movies together. We also love taking evening walks with the dog.
Matt and I like to ride motorcycles together. We also like to watch movies and drink beer. Oh, and work on yard projects together. Granted I move a little slower with the wood chipper than he would like but we still have a pretty good rhythm in regard to getting the job done.
We can’t play sports because we are both WAY too competitive.
27 is not old
talk to me when you’re 30! (even that’s not old, I say…) My husband and I do a lot of walking/hiking together. For “real” exercise, we do our own thing but those mellow outdoor activities are always a blast.
I was SO disappointed that Spice Coast didn’t win! I was rooting for him so badly! I thought he had such a great concept. Who needs another soul food type restaurant?! I was so annoyed by that!
My fiance is a big tennis player. He played all through high-school and college. He still plays on a league now. I occasionally like to play with him but I am so bad at it. Haha.
I am with you guys, totally bummed that Spice Coast didn’t win! My husband and I are going to be up in the cities next weekend and we were planning to go check out the new restaurant, but now that it is Soul Daddy – not so sure!
My husband and I just started playing tennis together last summer. It’s so much fun! We have some modified rules because we’re pretty bad. Spending most of the time chasing the ball is definitely a good workout!
I totally agree that the couple that plays together stays together! My love and I have run a half-marathon together and love going on bike rides.
I have a weird love for Hyvee. I love their value and their generic products, and miss it since living in the Quad Cities a few years back. Jealous!
They are seriously the best. Top 5 things I missed when I lived in a state that didn’t have one nearby!
i was really mournful for the weekend to end this week too.
Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog…made my morning!
My hubs and I like cooking, watching movies and taking walks. Awwwww.
The hubs and I like to play disc golf, cook and brew beer together.
Aaaaand apparently make blueberry crisp together because that is what we will be doing tonight.
Seeing that Hy-Vee cart makes me smile
How I miss it so here in NYC. I may have already mentioned this but whenever I go back to Omaha, the first thing I do is roam the aisles of Hy-Vee. So jealous that you can get all of that for $80 though. $80 barely gets me two good meals here. I wish they would lower the grocery store prices! The broiled fruit looks delicious; can’t wait for the recipe.
I was rooting for Soul Daddy! What can I say? I’m a sucker for a sappy back-story
Wow those groceries are CHEAP! I would love to get all that for $80, here in NY with a comparable shopping cart I’d easily have passed $100 at check-out for that haul, my guess is $115-ish. Amazing the difference geography makes on grocery (and gas!) prices these days…
Yummm, Chipotle.
My boyfriend and I like to look at cute animal pictures and videos on the internet together…we’re such suckers for cute things.
I am obsessed with Chipotle
It really is the BEST.
If you are interested, I have a homemade recipe for the Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake that is totally worth the time and effort. And it’s a big cassarole that can be frozen and tastes better than the stuff in the box!
And tennis and walking are always good because they are (fairly) low-impact and lifelong activities.
Haha, those are sweet couple likes!
My husband and I love lifting, biking along the coast, reading and finding new beers together. Very boring and simple, but perfection in my world.
Just came across this old post, if you don’t mind me asking, what sort of dinner meals did you make with these groceries. I was trying to put it all together and could only come up with 1 or 2. THanks! LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
I saw enchilada sauce in your pantry items picture. Have you tried Trader Joes’ Enchilada Sauce? It’s my favorite. Love your blog!
