First a quick skin-care back-story:
High School/College: As I once told you, I had the best skin growing up. I hardly ever washed my face at night (I know) and rarely got a blemish.
Mid-20’s: Adult acne arrives with a vengeance. My once-perfect skin suddenly turns on me, becoming unbearably itchy and regularly breaking out.
Last winter: With my breakouts under control, I faced a new problem: SHINE. I didn’t matter how little or what kind of moisturizer I used, you could literally fix a squeaky hinge with the collective grease from my T-zone (sorry).
Today: I tried out a product my Mom recently bought and swears by: Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder – Shine Control
From the Sephora website:
What it is: A pressed powder that visibly eliminates shine and controls oil breakthrough to maintain a fresh, matte finish with the naturally derived Shine Control Complex.
What it does: Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder – Shine Control is a lightweight, oil-free powder that visibly eliminates shine and produces a fresh, matte complexion. The naturally derived Shine Control Complex controls oil breakthrough and the ultra-sheer, mint green shade works to correct redness and visibly even out the skintone. It’s ideal for touch-ups throughout the day as it keeps your complexion flawless and shine-free.
What it is formulated WITHOUT: Parabens
What else you need to know: This product is free of fragrances and talc.
Basically I dusted the sheer powder over my powder/bronzer/blush this morning and went about my day, which included going in and out of the humid weather multi times (the perfect recipe for glistening skin.)
Here’s my skin after 10 hours of work.
Pretty much shine free. AMAZING!
I was shocked! Honest to God, I haven’t seen my face this matte after any amount of activity in years.
I am totally going to the mall to snatch up a compact of my own ASAP.
Just thought I’d share. :) If it worked for me – maybe it could work for you! And if it doesn’t, Sephora has a great return policy. ;) (PS I love my new clock necklace. $2.80 from Forever 21!!)
In other news, I cooked up a fast, fresh salmon feast for dinner tonight.
It was ready in 30 minutes and there were 2 dishes to clean at the end. Win!
I started with a big, beautiful filet of fresh, wild sockeye salmon I picked up at Costco. I’m tellin’ ya – their salmon is really great!
I seasoned the filet with 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil, and a generous sprinkling of salt & pepper.
Next I thinly sliced up 1 lemon,
and tiled it down the salmon.
Finally, I took a cue from The Pioneer Woman and placed the salmon into a cold oven, set it to 400 degrees, then let it cook for 25 minutes exactly.
The fish was tender and flaky, but really moist.
An extra squeeze of fresh lemon juice on top really made the flavors PoP.
I made a quick pilaf to serve on the side while the salmon was cooking.
Trader Joe’s Rice Orzo Pilaf Mix.
This was super easy. Just melt 1 Tablespoon butter, then toast the rice/orzo until the grains turn golden brown.
Add the accompanying spice packet and 2 cups of water, then cook until tender.
I usually cut the big salmon filets into 5-6 individual servings, and freeze the extras, but I was so inspired by the fresh lemon and olive oil flavors that I decided to cook the entire filet and use the leftovers to top some lunch salads this week. Yummy. :)
For SURE, feel good food! :)
I’m feeling light and bouncy this evening, so Ben and I are off for an evening walk.
Have a great night!
What’s your secret skin care or make-up weapon?
Mine is Chapstick and heavy-duty moisturizer at night. Cetaphil Advanced Moisturizer is my saving grace. Oh and Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara. Loves it!
