Workouts are back!
It’s seriously been a hot minute since I last posted a workout on IGE! After spending most of the hottest June and July EVAH in the confines of the gym, I resurfaced in a cooler August to do the majority of my running and walking in the glorious outdoors – aka no new fun treadmill routines to report.
Until today.
It poured and poured and poured all morning and afternoon (our dead lawn rejoices!) so I had no choice but to head to the gym to get a workout in. I hopped on the rotating wheel of death treadmill and completed this 35 minute 5-4-3-2-1 Treadmill Routine:
That’s 5 minutes at 6.5mph, 4 minutes at 6.6, 3 minutes at 6.7, 2 minutes at 6.8 and 1 minute at 6.9 – then repeat!
Afterwards, I reunited with the Stair Master for 5 minutes, until I was forced to come down due to sweat cascading into my eyes. Hawt. It was like 1,000 degrees in my gym! I cooled off by driving home with my car windows wide open, letting the cool, post-rain air wash over me.
Amazing, but it made me feel sad that summer is almost over. Right?!
Alas, there was no time to be sad…Pot Sticker Burgers with Spicy Asian Slaw needed to be made!!!!!!!
Pot Sticker Burgers happen when you have a craving for pot stickers, but are feeling far too lazy to individually wrap, crimp and seal a million of them.
They have all the flavor of a tender, pan fried then steamed pot sticker dunked in a spicy, vinegary dipping sauce – but take under 20 minutes to make. Score!
Pot Sticker Burgers with Spicy Asian Slaw
Yields: 4 burgers
Ingredients:
Pot Sticker Burgers:
1 package 99% fat-free ground turkey breast (about 1.2lbs)
1 egg
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
2 green onions, sliced
1 clove garlic, microplaned or finely minced
1/2″ knob fresh ginger, microplaned or finely minced
1 1/2 cups coleslaw mix, roughly chopped
Non-stick spray
Spicy Asian Slaw:
3 Tablespoons soy sauce
3 Tablespoons rice vinegar
1 Tablespoon water
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or more)
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ginger powder
1 green onion, sliced
4 cups coleslaw mix
Directions:
1. For the burgers: Mix all burger ingredients together, then shape into 4 equal patties. Spray each side of the burger with non-stick spray, then grill for 4-5 minutes a side, or until turkey is no longer pink in the middle.
2. For the slaw: Mix ingredients from soy sauce through green onion in a bowl. Add the coleslaw mix and toss to combine. Let the mixture sit in the fridge for 15 minutes before topping grilled burgers.
The burger tastes exactly like the filling of a pot sticker, while the spicy slaw tastes like a yummy dipping sauce!
It’s one of those meals where your mouth plays tricks on your brain. You taste pot sticker, but you see burger. It’s wild – and yummy.
Plus one burger and 1/4 of the coleslaw comes in at 200 calories on the nose. Much healthier than pan-frying an egg roll-wrapped pot sticker, no?
Also – word to the wise – the burger + slaw recipe uses about 1 package of Dole pre-made coleslaw mix, which makes this meal that much easier to make!
I have some freelance work to attend to tonight before I catch up with my favorite Teen Moms. Here’s to speediness!
Goodnight!

At this point: Team Summer or Team Fall?
After today’s cool weather scare, I’m totally Team Summer!
Are you more fit in the winter or summer?
I find I’m more fit in the winter. I’m more likely to go to the gym when it gets dark at 4:30pm than sit at home and twiddle my thumbs. Plus I usually do more than just run at the gym – like spend time on the step mill or stair master. When I work out in the outdoors in the summer though, I usually just run or walk then come home and shower without doing a whole lot of extra stuff. Plus, beer just tastes better in the summer, which is a whole lotta added empty calories!

I just made them. Soo good.
Delurking to say these were awesome! I literally just put my fork down and had to comment that these burgers were such a good idea! Really good flavor. Mine took a little longer to cook- I think next time I’ll do ‘em in the Foreman.
Down here in Texas I’m going with Team Fall. But I don’t think cooler weather exists anymore…
Thanks for the great recipe!

I’m about to cry.
I’ve spent the majority of my adult life, overweight in varying degrees. Reading your blog has inspired me to get moving, and has given me some amazing tips. Remember the post about how to get up in the morning for a workout? You said wear your gear to bed… I mean, duh! I NEVER thought to do it though! And not only does it take one less step out of my morning routine, but it forces you to get up and DO IT.
Tonight, I made this meal. I told NO ONE in my family that it was a healthy dish (I cook like Paula Deen) and EVERYONE (even my 13 month old) ate these bad boys right up! It was filling, and scrumptious! My husband even went back for more. I’m debating on telling him or not telling him that this was a “good for you” meal.
Seriously, it may seem dramatic to you and your other readers who have always been healthy and active, but finding this blog has been life changing for me. My motivation in everything is my children, and I want to be around a very long time to embarrass, bug, love and cuddle them/their kids/their grandkids. God willing, my hubby and I will be – and your blog is helping to give me the tools to do that. Thank you SO SO SO much, from the bottom of my (getting healthier!) heart.
This is probably my most favorite recipe from you blog, but don’t hold me to that. I LOVE these burgers. When I lived by myself, I would double the coleslaw recipe since I really love the coleslaw and a double serving of that is still healthy. I now have a male roommate and this is probably the 3rd time I have served them to him. He doesn’t care for coleslaw but LOVES the burgers. He eats them (2) on a bun with ketchup, mustard, lettuce & tomato. He asked me to tell you that he LOVES them too!! The good news is that one recipe of burgers and one recipe of slaw works out perfectly! He eats 2 burgers with no slaw, I eat on burger with half the slaw for dinner tonight and the rest is lunch tomorrow.
