They let you cram your ice-cold feet into the backs of their warm knees when you crawl into bed on a chilly winter night.
They bring you a sweet, salty and chocolate option when you call and ask them to make a snack stop on their way home from work.
They patiently wait for you to stop talking like an i can has cheezburger character, an unfortunate habit you picked up from spending too much time on Pinterest’s humor boards, even though they think misspelled captions above cats’ heads is the stupidest thing in the entire world.
(You do too, by the way, except, wait…no you don’t. That ish is hilarious!)
They give you their extra taco when the kid at the drive-thru screwed up your order and forgot to include a supreme taco in your meat & potato burrito combo meal, resulting in a less than adequate meal to fill your grumbling stomach.
…
Ah yes, while I know I can always count on Ben for warm feet, awesome snack options, and a good-natured laugh – he knows he can always count on me for… tacos.
That’s true love, people.
Ok, it’s like this. A couple weeks ago Ben and I were heading home from a friend’s house when his empty stomach started callin’. Feeeeed me! it shouted.
A certain fast-food taco joint that rhymes with Paco Don’s happened to be in the immediate area, so we swooped by to get my man a meal.
It’d been years since I had me a good fast-food taco (I suppose good is relative) so naturally I tacked on a cough double taco value meal cough to his order. We paid, grabbed the bag, and sped home.
Ben was halfway through his ginormous – seriously, HUGE – meat and potato burrito when he noticed its right hand man – the supreme taco – was missing from the bag, which we failed to check before leaving the restaurant. The horror!
Seeing my beloved so crushed at the loss caused the love to well up into my soul, and I did the damn thing. I handed over my extra taco. I know. Wife of the year, right here.
As good as it made me feel to fork over the delectable, greasy and indulgent taco…I’ve been seriously missing it ever since. Well tonight I decided to do something about it, and made Breakfast Tacos for dinner!
A bit healthier, no?
And ready in under 10 minutes!
All I did was scramble up 1 egg + 1 egg white with salt & pepper, then layered it into taco shells along with cheddar cheese, tomatoes and fresh avocado. A dash of salsa on top sealed the deal!
Eat your heart of Paco Don’s.

If calories (and cholesterol) didn’t count, what fast-food item would you indulge in right now?
I would totally indulge in B-Bops fries. They are like McDonald’s fries but 1000% better!! That or Arby’s curly fries. Ok, basically any fast-food fries.

Aw, you two are adorable!
I feel guilty for saying this, but I’m heating up some jalapeño poppers in the oven right now and I have a candy bar waiting for me later! At least I am not feeling good so I can use that as an excuse.
Indulging every once in awhile (ok, or more) makes me sane!
Oh, and I hope you feel better!
I would totally go for a massivenormous order of Sonic tater tots right now…maybe with some Daiya melted on top once I got home!
I would always be happy with a double cheeseburger. Yum!
I used to LOVE Taco Bell. Particularly, the nachos bel grande!
I love that you craved something and made it healthier at home……! I seem to make ground turkey tacos every few weeks, I never get tired of them:)………………..now I can make breakfast ones too! Thanks IGE!
Mmm! Taco John’s super nacho or taco bravo!!
I would love a big pile of battered (not breaded) onion rings and I would especially love having them all to myself
I admit I love fast food fries too and a good ‘ol plain Taco John’s crispy taco…with oles.
Oh and fried cheese balls from our local bowling alley – so bad, but so freakin’ good.
Cute post!!! Your question is a tough one since I’m craving so many things right now…but I would probably go with the standard: burger and fries from any fast food joint, as long as it’s greasy! A McDonalds Reeses McFlurry wouldn’t hurt too.
mmmmm tacos. i have no idea what paco don’s is and i had to look up possible rhymes(they have no love for the east cost, of course–the menu looks amazing!). you did a noble thing. <3
Those look yummy—what a good idea!
Fried chicken legs and biscuits are seriously my fave!!
I would have some KFC.
I could go for some everything right now if calories didn’t count haha I’ve been craving a screamer lately!
Culver’s crinkle cuts and a Reese’s PB Cup Blizzard (with chocolate ice cream) would be my treats of choice! Or some Wendy’s French fries dipped in chocolate Frosty would be good too.
absolutely a large dairy queen pumpkin pie blizzard. that’s not a very good answer, though, because calories DO count and i STILL indulge!! although usually just a mini
This is gross, but I would devour a Big Mac. I haven’t had one in years, but I always loved them growing up. “Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese. . . .”
I’m starving right now so just about anything from a fast food joint sounds good. Living where I do now (DEEP south Texas) I think I could go for a El Pollo Loco tostada salad. However, if I was HOME (Prairie City, Iowa), a big slice of Casey’s taco pizza would really hit the spot.
Oh my gosh! Casey’s pizza is the BEST!
I <3 Taco John's – I'd get a # 2 combo which is the Super Burrito (without meat please) and Potato Ole's. YUM Greasy goodness!!! I miss it so much since we moved to NC from SD
Funny what you take for granted.
Oh gosh. Cheeseburger cheeseburger. Pepsi. No coke. Billy Goat Tavern. Chicago. Or white castle…
Aww how sweet of you to share your taco! And those look so yummy! I’ve never had a breakfast taco before!
Back in high school, when calories didn’t count–I frequently enjoyed a Culver’s butter burger with cheese, fries, a vanilla shake (as my drink of course) and for dessert a frozen custard ice cream cone… OH the good old days
If calories didn’t count, I could totally go for a McRib and a chocolate milk shake! What’s even worse…they’re baaaaack in Texas right now. Must.not.go.to.McD’s. I’ll just repeat that a few times and have a few dark chocolate Hershey’s Kisses. Those always seem to do the trick!
IGE, I love your blog and the DSM connection! B-Bops fries are SO good! My parents still live by the one in Urbandale, and I crave them all the way here in Chicago
They have so much flavor, especially when dipped into the milkshakes. I wish I could get away with eating fast food!
Taco Bell or Five Guys! Could eat either one at pretty much any time.
Oh goodness, I could make a list that could go on for days so will go with an A&W Root Beer Float, Burger King Whopper or McD’s Big Mac and a king size Kit Kat for dessert
Omg, B-bops fries ARE THE BEST!!!! I’ve had a love affair with that place since my college days. Oh how I miss it!!!
That was awful nice of you to share your delicious taco, Kristin! The makeover tacos look amazing. I used to always go for the spicy chicken sandwich at Wendy’s and haven’t had one in ages!
I have avoided fast food places as much as I can for the last few years but its really hard to pass up a wendys jr bacon cheeseburger. another guilty, once a year, pleasure is Long John Silvers. its soo bad but it tastes soo good.
CHick fil A regular (fried) sandwich, a side of Arby’s fries and a DQ brownie/cookie dough blizzard. Drool. Or maybe just a Wendy’s burger with fries and a frosty. Ugh… too many good options!
Cheese curds from Culver’s! Mmmmmmm!!!! It’s even worse because we don’t have Culver’s in California, so I always dream about when I used to eat these in Iowa. B-Bops is pretty awesome as well! Thanks for reminding me, now I have something else to dream about.
Those tacos look great! Very creative using an egg!
I would get a big mac from McDonald’s, Chick-fil-a’s waffle fries and wash it all down with a Pumpkin Pie blizzard from DQ!
Long John Silvers……chicken, hush puppies and a mountain of extra crispies!!!!! Oh, and a big fat Coke!!!!
“They let you cram your ice-cold feet into the backs of their warm knees when you crawl into bed on a chilly winter night.”
SO true! I just did this exactly this last night haha.
I would probably eat a Burger King feast with a Whopper and a Tendercrisp Bacon Cheddar Ranch sandwich! Yum… and evil!
Great breakfast idea!
I live abroad and don’t have much access to American food, let alone fast food except for McDonald’s and Burger King. I would trade them both for Wendy’s, Sonic, or B-Bop’s!
Lately Wendy’s has been my first stop for food when back in the States. I also try to hit up Dairy Queen. (Anyone know how long they will have those pumpkin pie Blizzards? They sound delish!)
I heard the pumpkin pie blizzards are only available through Oct. Blizzard of the month or something. Doesn’t make sense..pumpkin pie is at least good til after Thanksgiving.
This is a great question! My guess would be french fries. I have a soft spot for them! I used to love Arthur Treacher’s fries and hush puppies….not sure how they taste now but I remember them fondly lol
Hahaha – LOVE that list! My husband could totally identify!
My fast food of choice would have to be a DQ heath & cookie dough blizzard….with chocolate soft serve.
*sigh*
To be in middle school again, without a calorie care in the world. (the ONLY good thing about middle school
my bf still winces when I stick my super cold feet on his back, maybe he will learn and just give up with the complaining haha
He suprised me with roses and dinner last night for no reason at all so that makes up for his lack of foot warming
It’s so simple, but I can see it totally hitting the spot. Great taco idea!
Icecream used to be my fav food (nope not fav junk food just fav food) until my tummy decided to reject it. If I could indulge in any food it’d probably be a large blizzard of some sort…maybe with reese’s? AND cookie dough??
I really love your writing! Also the breakfast tacos in a hardshell=genius.
I’ve made em in a soft shell (http://semihealthnut.blogspot.com/2011/09/healthy-livingeven-on-labor-day-weekend.html) but that sounds so good! Must try!
Filet-o-Fish from McDonald’s! I think I could eat like 5!
Culver’s Butterscotch Malt!! They are so many calories – the only time I allow myself to have one is when I’m pregnant and I certainly am not planning on anymore babies so i guess no more malts!
That is true love. We somewhat guiltily (is that a word?) indulge in Taco Bell after most weddings we shoot. It’s the only thing open that late and after you’ve worked for 12ish hours, it sounds amazing!! I would totally give Hubster my extra taco (or at least split it with him)
As to which fast food item I’d indulge in – that’s a hard one! I’d probably opt for some Church’s spicy fried chicken, fries (from anywhere – it’s hard to go wrong with fries) and an ice cream concoction with real ice cream. Even writing that out makes me feel full! Ha!
i love chickfila chicken nuggets. they sell them in the food court of the university library where i work/have class all week long, and they always smell so good!
EGG.MC.MUFFIN!!!!!! When I was a youngn’ growing up in small town Iowa, my dad used to pile us all in the mini van really early before school once a year and we’d drive to the next town (with the closest McDonalds) for that soft, steaming hot, melted cheese layered Egg McMuffin. Oh the memories! We call it “rock food” because it sits in your belly like a rock all day after you eat it.
The list of fast food options I would love to dig into quickly scrolled through my brain after reading your question. If I went on a fast food frenzy I would hit up Wendy’s for their jr. bacon cheeseburger loaded with pickles and onion, head to Hardee’s for a hot ham n’ cheese and their curly fries smothered in ranch. (Their ranch is rediculously good!) And if I were in California I would pretty much live at In and Out. They have a secret menu which only natives know about and getting a burger and fries “animal style” there means being smothered in a secret sauce (ketchup and thousand island mixed is what I’ve deduced) and tons of tiny grilled onions. Gaaaaah! Now I’m salavating!
i am cursed with a love of all fast food! it’s a terrible burden! last night i had a fish sandwich meal from Mickey D’s. i did scrape pretty much all the tarter sauce off so that makes it all good, doesn’t it? not a “Paco Don’s” fan but i do love potato oles w/cheese. Taco Bell’s chalupas are super good. Little John’s mushroom burger is to die for! really, everything at Little John’s is great! plus it’s not a chain, which is even better! not many independent burger joints still in business these days.
The potato oles at Taco Johns are the stuff of dreams.
Honestly, I’m not all that into fast food, but a whopper every now and again is pretty darn good.
Oh man, I love Taco John’s!! My hubby always gets the meat & potato burrito combo as well. And don’t forget the nacho cheese to go along with the potato oles.
I would have an order of fries from McDonalds and a frosty from Wendy’s. I LOVE the way fries taste with a shake. It’s just so good!!
