If you’ve been reading IGE for any length of time, then you know I have a mild severe uncontrollable obsession with lists.
The Type A in me just loves to keep track of everylittledetail of my busy life, and since I’m a very visual person, being able to SEE what I have to get done during the day, make for dinner, or randomly keep track of helps keep me sane.
Lately I’ve been making lists in my iPhone’s “Notes” application, which is great because it syncs to my work iPad, but it doesn’t sync with my work Mac or home PC, making me feel as though there’s hole in my line of defense against forgotten errands and gallons of milk from the grocery store.
Well thank goodness for social networking, because after explaining my problem on Twitter today, several people responded telling me to ditch the notes app, and check out the best little list making, task organizing, note taking app that syncs with ALL my devices at once.
Evernote!
Evernote lets you create different lists/notes/to-dos, then wirelessly syncs them with any device that has the app downloaded onto it. Now I can keep track of what I’ll be making for dinner on four different devices – wheee!
You can attach images, files or audio recordings to any note, and Evernote even opens links up within the app – like the recipe for Shrimp Cobb Salad I made tried to make tonight.
Looks pretty tasty, right?
A big, fluffy mixed-greens salad lined with all the fixins’.
Carrots, Celery, Corn, Tomatoes, Avocado and Bacon. What could be wrong with that?
IT’S MISSING THE SHRIMP. The spiced, plump and tender sauteed shrimp that were supposed to be majestically nestled on top of the Shrimp Cobb Salad were tragically left in the skillet and forgotten about until after said salad was already demolished. Blerg.
Oh well, I suppose the bacon and avocado stripes made up for it…
Off to tackle some of those lists! Have a great night!

What’s your secret to staying organized?

I’ve made this salad before and it is amazing! Hope you enjoy
Have you not been using Evernote? Eeee! It’s amazing. So is Dropbox. I’ve got a post brewing on my fave tech apps, actually.
I used to use Dropbox, but the Mac guys at the aple store told me it is a big risk for hackers and viruses. Thoughts?
Love this! And dinner looks fab as usual my dear.
I too am obsessed with lists! I have them for everything. Sometimes I even add things to the list after I’ve done them …just to cross them off =)
love it!! Why is it that list making makes us so happy? I seriously have fun making lists and organizing my calendar. Especially if I can add color to it all. Cool App!
Beautiful salad. I love the color!
What camera do you have?
I use a Nikon D3000!
awesome!! Thanks chica. I want to buy a new camera before my honeymoon. Your photos are always so crisp and the color just POPS!
Just downloaded this sucker on my phone / computer… pretty excited about this! (clearly I’m just slightlyyyy type A too haha
)
that salad looks awesome! guess you’ll have to make it again soon to use up those little shrimpies!
Thank you so much for the information on Evernote. I often read your blog, but this is my first comment. I am doing an analysis for work on companies who have created a visually powerful brand appearance, and decided to look at Evernote based on this entry. Evernote has one of the best examples of visually successful branding that I saw. Thanks!
Beautiful salad and I love that app too:)
I have a planner that I live by. The month page is used to track my workouts planned, and then the days are used for my daily schedule haha
I know exactly how you feel when it comes to being organized for sure.
Have you looked at Evernote Food? It will sync with your regular Evernote account, but has its own little app with all your food goodness in one place!
Say what?! On it!
I love Evernote too! And am obviously a huge list fanatic. My other go to organizing tools are a smaller notebook I keep in my purse for more lists and notes and my task manager in my phone to remind me of appointments etc.
I hate when I do stuff like that! Today I brought leftover tortilla soup for lunch, and kept reminding my husband to remember his guacamole…and then forgot mine! I was so sad when I opened my lunch bag and saw it was missing!
I love using evernote on my phone! If I find a recipe I like in a magazine at the gym, I snap a picture and save it to evernote. Easy!
I use Springpad, my reminder app, and a hard copy planner. Seeing you home screen. Did you know if you press and hold an app on you iPhone it and all you apps will giggle and then you can group like apps together into one app folder that you can name? If not, once everything giggles just drag one app at a time on top of another one you want to group with and a folder is created. It does wonders on cleaning up the home screen and it makes everything so much more organized. The trick also works on iPods and iPads. My hubby couldn’t believe I found this trick before him.
How could you forget the shrimp?!
best app ever!
I still organize with a paper planner! I also use Google Docs and calendar though, so I’m not totally stone-age
I still prefer pen and paper for lists. Seems archaic but I like the physical act of crossing things off and scratching other little notes next to items. At work though, I use a combo of a paper list and my Outlook tasks, with custom reminders, organized by due date.
I downloaded Evernote after reading your post on my iPhone. However I can’t figure out how to open links within the lists. Can you help?
You should just be able to click on the link. What happens when you try?
I seem to have an obsession with lists too! I do like writing things down usually and also have my gmail calendar. Will have to try this app!
I LOVE Evernote! I love that I don’t have to find space on the counter for my laptop anymore when I cook because I just bring my Nook or Playbook in and work off that. Tip: put the tablet inside a Ziploc to protect it from spills and icky things. I’m also liking Evernote Food too. You can organize your pictures by meals! It’s great.
Oh goodness this looks dangerously awesome…I wonder if it’s on blackberry? Prob not…must get new techie phone!!
Also what do you mean all your devices? Like your phone, your laptop…?
Yep – iphone, ipad, desktop and laptop computers.
I love, love, love Evernote. It made working at 2 different university campuses and at home so much more manageable during my last year of grad school. I’ve also had some decent luck using SpringPad on my iPad.
Just downloaded it. I too am a list freak, and January is just the time to start a new way of organizing. Thanks! sorry about your missing shrimp. How sad
Since you found/recommended such an awesome phone app for our lists – what program do you use to follow blogs. Currently I subscribe to blogs (including your of course) using the RSS feed through Outlook. But I wouldl like an app that would allow me to keep track of the many blogs I follow on my Android. Do you have a recommendation?
Love your blog – its my favorite actually. Keep up the great work.
I use Google reader, which has an app for iPhone. Maybe check to see if it does for Android?
Just downloaded Evernote – is there a way to “clip” your posts? I just saw that feature on another blog and I love that I can do that. I’d love to be able to clip yours posts, too!
Hmm, I’m not sure what clipping is. Is it a service/website?
Not really sure, either, to be honest. I saw it at the bottom of at post at 1cupawesome.com. I clipped it and it synced to my app. Pretty sweet!
