Cannon Beach, Oregon is one of my Dad’s favorite places in the country. The beach is widely recognized by its massive Haystack Rock, shown above, which Ben and I hope to someday finish at in a cross country road trip! (Followed by copious amounts of craft brewery visits in the surrounding area.

i have a suggestion for a daily escape: halong bay, vietnam. its similar to today’s escape in that there are rock formations, but THOUSANDS of them! and you can go kayaking all around them and stay on houseboats out in the bay! it’s SO cool.
cheers!
I live in Portland and actually spent the 4th at Cannon Beach! You and Ben REALLY need to make it out here! Our beaches are phenomenal! Oh and all the micro brews … yes you’d be in heaven! If you do ever make it out here, you should email me, I’d love to give you all the good places to hit
Deal!
Cannon Beach is beautiful, and more importantly, the set for the best 80′s kid movie ever, Goonies!
My sister and I were JUST there two days ago! And I’d have to agree that it’s a must-see – absolutely beautiful and wonderful weather if you go during the right month.
Cannon Beach is such a cute little down and a beautiful beach to walk on in the winter or warmer parts of the year. And yes, pleeeenty of good beer out in our neck of the woods. Portland, OR will treat you well.
Drive along the whole Oregon coast when you go! It’s full of gorgeous views, winding roads, and beautiful coastal towns. Visiting Oregon two summers ago still ranks as one of my top few trips!
We were going to stop there last summer when we did a road trip down the west coast from Canada but sort of went across the states and hit the ocean in California, now I wish we crossed over earlier! Looks beautiful.
Cannon Beach, Oregon looks like a great place to be. Beautiful picture.
Visit The Wine Shack & Puffin Brand Wines in Cannon Beach. The Owners, Steve & Maryann Sinkler have a Des Moines Connection.
Hey Kristin! We were so happy to see your mention of the beautiful CB. Our pal Jeff sent it to us, so I just posted it on our FB page. If you or your Dad make it this way, please stop in for a little vino with us. Maryann
My whole family is from Iowa. Used to go back there every summer.. My parents grew up in Mason City and Clear Lake. Have so many fond memories of visiting there. I live in Portland now. You do need to visit Cannon Beach. It is a great town. Oregon has lots of different things from the high dessert around Bend, to the Willamette Valley, the Cascades, and great beaches. If you ever decide to come, you would love it. And the best part, we hardly ever have really hot weather. Has been great here lately, while the rest of the country swelters.
Thanks so much for your “Daily Escape” feature! The pics make my heart happy!!
i have been there on a visit…..and it sure is a very beautiful beach….and the massive rock makes it even more breathtaking! Oregon also has some waterfalls around….you should definitely check it out sometime….
going there in 3 weeks!! cant wait
I have actually been there. Thought my boyfriend was going to propose. But he didn’t. Lucky for him he did 2 months later. I was getting impatient! Still beautiful and would be a great place to get engaged!
Just saw the post from my state of Oregon! you and Ben would love the scenery and the food and yes, the breweries.
Hope you get to make the trip soon
Yay, Oregon! Yup, Cannon Beach is very pretty and the main drag in the town is a fun afternoon. And then there’s the beer in Portland.
The beer alone was a great selling point to get my husband to move here! You would love Portland!
