Daily Escape – Dublin, Ireland

15

I have always thought it’d be awesome to spend two weeks in Ireland. One week touring the gorgeous countryside and crumbling castles – the other week spent bar hopping around Dublin. :) Source: Jim Nix

This pic is super decieving. Dublin is worth half a day at most of exploration. it is one of the dirtiest cities i’ve been to and not nearly as pretty as that pic might suggest :(

    pretty pic tho!

My husband I just got back from 2 weeks in Ireland. One week doing a bike tour of the west coast enjoying the beautiful scenery and more than just a couple crumbling castles/churches. The other week we spent in Dublin and we loved it! Has great restaurants, busy atmosphere and big city but not too big. Would definately go back!

I loved, loved, LOVED Dublin! I didn’t get to spend as much time as I wanted, but everything from the culture, to the architecture, to the people made this place amazing. Kilmainham prison was SO SPOOKY, that should definitely be a place you check out! Then of course get your free pint at the rooftop bar of the Guinness factory! :)

I went for three weeks as part of an exchange program in high school and it was incredible! I was actually in Northern Ireland for much of the trip, but the countrysides are truly breathtaking and Belfast and Dublin are great fun! I particularly loved the shopping in Belfast, they had a giant Top Shop that I could have spent hours in!

Ha ha – the first of your ‘daily escapes’ that I’ve actually been to. Mind you, just recently found your blog and only live about 100 miles north of Dublin in and area just outside Belfast!!

I studied abroad Dublin and loved every minute of it! I recently went back for work and put together an itinerary for my husband. If you ever go, this might come in handy! http://newyorkcitynewlyweds.blogspot.com/2012/05/dublin-ireland-itinerary.html

Unfortunately I would agree with Sarah W. Ireland’s countryside is beautiful but Dublin is very dirty. There is dog poop everywhere!!!!! Out of everywhere I’ve been in the world my trip to Ireland was my least favorite. Although that picture is of Gogarty’s pub- one of the best parts of Dublin. They have Irish dancers late at night. Awesome!

I went to Ireland last June and was in the exact pub! I didn’t spend much time in Dublin, more touring Southern Ireland. It was wonderful, such a beautiful country. Loved seeing all the little towns, the sprawling fields of green dotted with sheep and the occasional castle ruin. I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to go.

We did that trip a couple of years ago. Three days in Dublin, then a week in the coutry side! Back to Dublin for another three days and then home. It was a great trip. The picture you have displayed of Gogarty’s pub is a good one, we were there. I do not know what that one commentator meant when she said dog poop every where. We did not experience that. Paris, on the other hand this last June had that, and we saw more dogs in the city of Paris, they love their dogs. Anyway Dublin is fun and you should spend time there.

I agree with others who have commented that recommend the countryside over Dublin! It’s certainly a fun city but outside of drinking and several literary museums, there’s not too much to do. Its neighboring suburbs on the coast, however, are breathtaking! The countryside of Ireland is so lush and gorgeous.

To all of you who said the Irish countryside is beautiful, yes I agree! But to all of you who said Dublin was dirty and not worth more than a few days, you are dead wrong! I live in Dublin now after moving here from Kansas, and I can tell you, that the parts that are “dirty” are not the good sides of town. Rant aside… Ireland is beautiful! And I’m so excited to see it on the daily escapes!! :)

ps – love the blog! Your recipes are making my husband a very happy man, ha ha!
