Daily Escape – Road Trip

19

One of Ben’s favorite things to do in the world is to hit the open road, and drive. While I’m all about flying to get here, there, and everywhere, I must admit, there’s something a little exhilarating about an epic road trip! What’s the furthest you’ve ever driven?

My longest road trip was from LA to DC, with my then boyfriend, now husband. It was right after college graduation, and we were both moving back to the East Coast for grad school. We actually enjoyed a whole week stuck in a Honda Civic together, so that’s how I knew he was the one for me!

Last year, my friend and I did a massive road trip along the east coast of Australia….I don’t know how many kilometres we drove or how many 12h non-stop drives in the middle of the night were involved…The best thing about it? I don’t have a drivers licence and didn’t do a minute of driving :D (but all the entertaining and awake-keeping ;) )

I drive a lot, so my top few road trips have been:

    1) Road Trip from Vermont to Wyoming (to camp & visit Tetons/Yellowstone, etc.)

    2) Moving from Vermont to Florida with just me & my cat.

    And probably the most tedious:
    3) Moving from Florida to Oklahoma during the peak of Summer (Temps Averaging 113°F in both locations) with no A/C.

Last summer we did a 10 day road trip that was about 2700km. It was a blast, and we hope to do it again!

I’ve lived in Columbia, SC for 7 years, but I’m from Oklahoma. I’ve driven the 1,200 miles, nonstop, back and forth from here to there so many times I’ve lost count.

we are contemplating a road trip in 2 weeks which would be from MN to the Black Hills and eventually Devils Tower, WY.

In high school we took a rode trip from MN to the East Coast. That was fun! I would love to do more road trips

My longest road trip was Iowa to D.C. to New York and home to Iowa. I didn’t have to drive.

Yes, road trips! Missy & I would always do the 1000 mile/16 hr drive from WDM to Maryland in one straight shot. We actually looked forward to the day spent together on the road chatting without distractions. It was like one long driveway home, too…an easy drive all on interstates.

Then we had kids. Believe it or not, we actually attempted the same drive last Christmas when the triplets were 18 months. Yeah…let’s just say we’ll be flying from now on.

After finishing my PhD, I drove from Missouri to NC to see family then back to Missouri to meet the movers and over to Oregon for the new job. It was 3700 miles in 10 days.

I hate driving. While I don’t mind being a passenger, I much prefer to fly to my destination as well.
This past May, my mom & I drove from WI to PA. Alllll the way to the Tannersville, PA. Which, if you’re unfamiliar, is on the far east side of the state. This was the longest car ride of my adulthood, but as a child, driving to Pensacola, FL was no big deal because my first ever view of the ocean was calling my name!

Charleston, SC to Seattle, WA! We drove from SC to Southern California, and then up to WA. It was awesome.

Next summer we’ll be moving from WA to upstate NY, and I’m so excited about the drive!

I think the longest trip I’ve ever done is when I moved from Iowa to Florida. Two days of driving in a car stuffed to the gills with everything important that I owned.

I am originally from Los Angeles, CA and in 2004 I drove from LA all the way across the country to South Royalton, Vermont…as I was moving there for grad school. It was an amazing trip and quality time spent with my dad. :-)

Miami to Chicago! Over a Labor Day weekend, 2 of my best friends and I moved one of them from FL to IL. And we were chased out of Florida by a hurricane! We stopped at every state line and took a picture by that state’s sign. Definitely a trip to remember!

Iowa to Phoenix, AZ then back two days later. Never again. Always fly if it’s over 8 hours.

Just this past week, my mom and I drove 40 hours from Pittsburgh, PA to Edmonton, AB. My husband and I are relocating there and with two dogs we didn’t want to have to put them in cargo for the flight. We had a great time and made it as much of a scenic drive as we could, going through the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone & Missoula. We even packed a cooler so that we didn’t eat any fast food the entire trip.

Longest trip alone was 13 hours, which given some of the other comments is not very long. Wow!

We drove from eastern Iowa to north Texas and back last fall. It took us 13.5 hours. We made one stop going down and spent the night in Kansas. On the way home, we drove straight through with a few bathroom and food breaks. That was a long day. I think that’s the longest road trip I’ve ever been on. It was fun, but I think I still prefer flying.

I’m from the middle of British Columbia , a very moutainous and unstable weather province in Western Canada so road trips are the name of the game as flights are unreliable at best. 15 hour drives to get to a major city like Vancouver or Calgary are standard but strangely enough I have yet to drive across Canada from Coast to Coast. My longest drive has been American, from Los Angeles through Vegas and Utah to Denver across to Chicago through Pennsylvania to NYC to Boston down through Cape Cod and Newport RI to Atlantic City, Philly, DC, the Smokey Mountains, Nashville across to East Texas through West Texas and Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Phoenix and home to Palm Springs. Done over two months in the fall of ’10 and we had 1 hour of rain. Yes, the leaves on the East coast were jaw dropping. BEST TRIP EVER
