Ultimate Apple Snicker Nachos

Prep the candy, costumes, and hanging zombies – Halloween is officially two weeks away!

I still remember the giddiness my brothers and I felt every beggar’s night (we don’t trick-or-treat on Halloween round these parts. I have no idea…) I mean, dressing up like little bats, mad scientists, and wrinkly witches? Running around the neighborhood after dark? Limitless candy? Yes, yes, and heck yes!

Every year my Dad would take us from house to house with the neighborhood kids, standing at the end of the driveway while we told our lamest best jokes, collected our candy, then raced off to the next house. When all the porch lights went off, we’d drag our booty home and start THE PROCESS.

You know, separating the chocolate from the fruity candies, furiously ripping open fun-size Starbursts searching for the prized all-pink packs, hurling any and all traces of malted milk balls to the far recesses of the room, then mentally preparing for the all-important, once-a-year candy trade that was about to take place.

Would Justin still trade his Twizzlers for my fire balls? Could I still trick Ryan into giving me all his nerds for those wretched Whoppers I didn’t want anyways? Cautious negotiations went well into the night.

It didn’t really matter anyways, of course, since all the candy would be “removed” two days later by the candy police, aka Mom. Moooo-OOOM! ;) (Please, don’t be too jealous of my Nun costume, btw.)

Well, save some of the candy you snag from your kids, the office, or the dorm this year to make these epic Ultimate Apple Snicker Nachos the day after Halloween (if you can wait that long!)

Ultimate Apple Snicker Nachos start with a layer of fresh apple slices that are topped with gooey melted caramel, a silky chocolate drizzle, crunchy peanuts, and chopped Snickers. Think deconstructed over-the-top caramel apple. I KNOW.

The best part is that Ultimate Apple Snicker Nachos are made with common Halloween treats, which I guarantee you’ll be able to get your hands on, on or before Halloween (or Beggar’s!) night. PLUS they’re ready in 5 minutes. Seriously, couldn’t be simpler!

Zee ingredients include 1 room-temperature apple, 3 snack-size Hershey chocolate bars, 6 caramels, 2 fun-size Snickers chopped up, and 1 Tablespoon chopped peanuts.

Start by slicing the apple and arranging it on a plate. Use whatever type you have on hand, but a crisp and tart apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp will taste great under the super-sweet toppings.

Next melt the caramels with 1/4 teaspoon water for 45 seconds to a minute, stirring every 15 seconds, then drizzle over the apple slices. This is where a room temperature apple comes in handy – you want to keep the caramel ooey-gooey for as long as possible. If it hits a cold apple then it will start to lose the ooze (but still taste awesome.)

Repeat the melting, stirring, and drizzling part with the chocolate bars…

Then sprinkle with the chopped Snickers and peanuts.
