"Iiiiii’m dreaming of a whiiiiiite, Christ-mas!"
I woke up to 3-4 inches of snow on the ground and the big, fat, white flakes haven’t stopped falling all afternoon!
It’s a winter wonderland out there!
Ben and I will be with his family in western Iowa for Christmas, so we spent the day watching movies and hanging out at my parent’s house. Super cozy.
We’ve been snacking all day on things like summer sausage, crackers & cheese,
(I slightly disgust myself with my love for summer sausage, so I only have it once a year around the holidays…)
and tons of sweets. Like peanut brittle!
We saved room for the main event though, my Mom’s traditional white Christmas eve dinner!
Her grandparents came to America from Czechoslovakia and brought with them their tradition of serving an all-white meal on Christmas eve.
We’re talking bread, shrimp, potatoes, corn – anything light or cream colored.
(Ok we’ve got more of a golden/brown tone going, but you get the idea!)
Then on Christmas day you have a vibrant, uber-colorful meal to celebrate the birth of Jesus!
Tonight’s dinner was the same as it is every year – creamed scalloped corn, chewy ciabatta bread, seasoned & buttered baked shrimp, party potatoes and Grandma’s Holiday Salad.
Traditions are so comforting, aren’t they? And tasty.
This evening we’ll be attending Christmas Eve service with my parents, then Ben and I are heading out in the morning to celebrate with his family!
I will touch base with you all on Sunday so, in the meantime, many holiday blessings, safe travels and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
