Hello from the other side of the Super Bowl! My Mom texted me mid-way through the first half:

“Are you watching the Super Bowl?!” she asked.

“No.” I replied.

The end.

That is to say, Ben and I were more emotionally invested in the commercials (Carrie Bradshaw x Stella Artois – be still my SATC-loving heart!) then the big game this year. At one point I looked at Ben and said, “I’ve don’t think I’ve ever even HEARD of the LA Rams?!” but that didn’t stop of us from scarfing 4lbs of Air Fryer Chicken Wings and downing two Kombucha Mules a piece. Hey, when in Rome slash your living room!

Unlike the game, our Kombucha Mules were definitely something to talk about. A few weeks ago Gwen and I were on Costco run when I spied a new to me product in the refrigerated section – 8oz “mini booch” bottles of Suja Kombucha. SO CUTE and right up my ally. I love kombucha – slightly fizzy fermented tea that’s great for your gut – as much as the next gal but the regular sized bottles can be a bit too much booch for me. How much fun is it to say booch by the way?

Anyway, the case came with three flavors, one of them being Ginger Lemon. One sip and I was immediately struck by how much it tasted like ginger beer, and we all know what pairs well with ginger beer don’t we? Vodka! Hey-o! And fresh lime juice. And thus, after a raid of our downstairs freezer for 3 year old Hawkeye vodka (apparently we never drink vodka?!) and a miraculous discovery of a fresh lime in the fruit drawer, Kombucha Mules were born.

You guys are going to LOVE these refreshing, sparkling cocktails that are a healthier alternative to your standard Moscow Mule. Barritt’s Ginger Beer (the only ginger beer worth using in Moscow Mules, imho) is many things, but heathy it is not. Ginger Lemon Kombucha though? Packed with probiotics and made with black tea, ginger, lemon, and a touch of cane sugar. I can see myself craving one of these cocktails on a hot summer evening, though they’ve transported me to warmer days and times in my head on several occasions over the past couple of weeks.

Now, you don’t have to use Suja’s Ginger Lemon Kombucha for these cocktails, but I do really like the brand. Health-Ade is another delicious brand to try if you haven’t, plus they have a Ginger Lemon flavor too. Alrighty, let’s get to sippin’!

There is just one direction for these Kombucha Mules: pour 1 shot vodka (2oz) into a glass of ice then top with 8oz Ginger Lemon Kombucha and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Ben likes a bit more vodka in his Kombucha Mule, though I liked mine on the lighter side. That said, start with a shot then add more vodka if you like.

Kombucha Mule

Description

Just three ingredients needed for this subtly-sparky, ctirus-infused sipper! A Kombucha Mule is an easy and refreshing cocktail recipe to enjoy any time of year.

Ingredients

makes 1 cocktail

  • 1 shot (2oz) vodka
  • 8oz (1 cup) ginger lemon kombucha
  • fresh lime wedges

Directions

  1. Add vodka to a cocktail glass filled with ice then top with kombucha - I opt to NOT include the sediment at the bottom of the bottle, though it is harmless to drink. Squeeze in fresh lime juice then stir and enjoy.

Notes

  • I use Suja brand Ginger Lemon Kombucha but have seen similar flavors from other brands.
