Got a party, potluck, or book club meeting on the calendar? Trust me when I tell you that Caprese Skewers with Balsamic Drizzle are going to be the hit of your get together!
Mini mozzarella cheese balls are skewered with sweet basil leaves and juicy cherry tomatoes then drizzled with tangy-sweet balsamic reduction to create this perfectly poppable appetizer. They will FLY off the platter.
This healthy appetizer “recipe” (if you can really call it that – they’re so easy!) can be made a few hours ahead of time, though save the balsamic drizzle for when you’re ready to party. I’ll show you!
How to Make Caprese Skewers
To make a platter for entertaining you’ll need grape or cherry tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, and fresh mini mozzarella balls. You can find mini cheese balls in most grocery stores these days. If not, just cut a large ball of fresh mozzarella into bite-sized pieces.
Layer a mini cheese ball onto a toothpick followed by a fresh basil leaf (fold in half if large,) and half a cherry tomato.
So cute, right?!
While you’re assembling the skewers, pour 1 cup balsamic vinegar into a saucepan then let it simmer for 10 minutes, or until it’s the consistency of maple syrup. After it’s cooled and thickened slightly, drizzle all over the Caprese Skewers. If I’m feeling lazy, I LOVE this store-bought balsamic reduction!

Your photo is just divine! I decided to make this for some company. I just made the balsamic glaze and I think I let it cook a bit too long. It has many tiny lumps and possible is too thick. Do you think I should thin it out a bit before using and try to whisk out the lumps? Thanks for any tips!
You could try adding a little water or more balsamic vinegar and whisking well!
Hi! Love these! Made them a few times but always right before the event began. Do you have any experience assembling the day before then add the drizzle at party time? How much in advance will they work…. if any? Or best right before? someone asked already, but I am not seeing a response. Thank you!
I have found that assembling them the same day as service is best. If you assemble then refrigerate overnight, the basil can wilt/blacken, and the tomatoes become mushy!
awsome
Love these with fresh summer tomatoes and basil from the garden! You can make your own balsamic drizzle or buy it from the store to save a bit of time and mess. They are also pretty for party apps!
Can you prepare the drizzle ahead of time and does it have to be warm at the time you serve?
Absolutely! If it’s a little too thick when it comes time to drizzle you can just warm it in the microwave until it reaches a drizzly consistency.
Can u make these a day ahead
I would like to bring these to Thanksgiving dinner. We travel about an hour, should I drizzle before we go or wait and drizzle when we arrive? They’d be set out immediately as an appetizer. Thank you!

Freshly ground pepper! :)
