We’re barely keepin’ our heads above water here in the Midwest, folks – it’s been raining nonstop for days! However dark, dank, and dreary it’s been, though, I will take this all day long over the snow my neighbors to the north in Minnesota have been getting continually blasted with over the past several weeks. I can’t even… Somebody send some sunshine our way!
While the grill remains shut under its cozy cover, Ben and I are moving on indoors, culinarily speaking anyway, and making good use of our Griddler which has been such a gem over the past couple of weeks. No outdoor grill? No problem! The Griddler makes grilling Clubhouse Turkey Burgers indoors, easy. (Wish I could say the same about keeping myself from looking like a drowned rat every time I step outside. This, my friends, is the real challenge!)
Clubhouse Turkey Burgers are turkey burgers with a mishmash of flavorful mix-ins like crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, and smoky BBQ sauce. I got the idea from the meat counter at Whole Foods, which was selling the pre-made patties for $6.99/lb. Love the idea, but the price tag? Not so much.
My at-home version took nearly the same amount of time that it would have taken to unwrap the package from the fridge, plus I got to make my kitchen smell like bacon, which is always a plus. These smokey, cheesy, tender burgers are unbelievable. Great for grilling indoors or out, plus they come together in a jif.
Wish I could say the same about this doggone weather!
Start the Clubhouse Turkey Burgers with 1lb ground turkey. Ground beef would be excellent too. Now, I usually use 99% fat-free ground turkey breast, as “lean” ground turkey has nearly the same amount of fat and calories as 90/10 ground beef, and more cholesterol, but I made an exception this time since the lean ground turkey was on sale at the store for $2.99/lb. It’s fine occasionally and truly makes for an exceptionally moist and juicy burger!
To the ground turkey add 1/3lb cooked and crumbled bacon, and 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese.Â
Next add 1/4 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce, to add a smokey, savory flavor to the burgers, and 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs to help hold the patties together.
Mix everything up then divide and form the mixture into 4 patties.
Whether you’re using an indoor or outdoor grill for these babies, make sure you generously brush or mist the burgers with olive oil or nonstick spray before slapping ’em onto the grates, as the melting cheese and sugar in the BBQ sauce will try and coax ’em to stick. Brush or mist the uncooked side before flipping and grill for 4-5 minutes a side, or until no longer pink in the center.
Flip those bad boys onto toasted buns (I dig thin buns so I can taste the burger and not the bun,) then smear on some more BBQ sauce and top with the fresh veggies of your choice!

I served the Clubhouse Turkey Burgers with roasted green beans – so glad to see the freshness back at the store! All I did was snap the ends off then toss the green beans with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper then roast for 15 minutes at 425 degrees. Perfecto!
Literally packed with flavor – make sure you get these cheesy, savory Clubhouse Turkey Burgers on your menu ASAP!

I am ready for the rain to stop too! We have had so much rain in the past 3 days here in Indiana too. I’m thinking a boat might be a good investment. Summer can’t get here soon enough so we can be grilling burgers in the backyard. I love all the flavors you have on yours!!!

as one of the aforementioned minnesotans, thank you for your nice words. i’m dying a little bit each day that there is more snow in the forecast. it’s currently snowing, and there are about two new inches on the ground right now. WAH! cannot wait for grill season to get here…if it ever decides to come.
Gwen @SimplyHealthyFamily 04.18.2013
That stinks! Although having lived in Arizona my entire life I have to say a bunch of rain sound very nice! ;)

Oh my… those look so good. Thanks for thinking of us in Minnesota – I still have 2 feet of snow in my yard! But I have your Copycat Olive Garden Pasta e Fagoli Soup in the crockpot waiting for me.

Nina @ Too Hottie For That Body 04.18.2013
We’re stuck under a layer of snow here in Denver. I think I’m going to have to make a batch of these and some mini s’mores while we watch Sandlot and pretend like it’s too impossibly hot to go outside.
Steve Perry 04.18.2013
The Wife and I love all your turkey burger recipes, I will try this one tonight, And for your LOVE of mushrooms HA HA, I will put a few on top just for you. Thanks
Pamela @ Brooklyn Farm Girl 04.18.2013
These are making my mouth water – they look so delicious! Can’t wait for summer time grilling here too…
Losing Lindy 04.18.2013
I can’t believe you will be on TV! Do they have a live website?
We got over 10 inches of rain since yesterday morning. There is so much flooding that my son’s school (who never cancelled for snow this year) cancelled at 4:40 this morning. I wasn’t happy about that call. But we are watching Despicable Me and eating cheddar microwave popcorn.
Theresa 04.18.2013
Yum! Those sound so good, I’ll definitely add them to my menu for dinners next week!
It’s been beautiful here in San Francisco, but come summer, you’ll have beautiful farmers market weather, and we’ll be stuck in the fog! :)
Nikki 04.18.2013
Cant wait to watch you tomorrow on KCCI :) Love your blog! Also this recipe will be a great use to my NEW pampered chef grill pan and press!!
Linda 04.18.2013
Those burgers look great! Our grill is iced over here in MN and plows are on the roads. We had spring for a day on Tuesday and I must have slept through summer as it’s winter again. Don’t have a griller but can’t wait to make them if it ever gets to 50. Love your blog!
Britney Mills 04.18.2013
Looks delicious! What kind of buns do you use?
I will send some sunshine your way…it’s still pretty cold but sometimes just seeing the sun makes it better.
lisa@cookingwithcurls 04.18.2013
Those look awesome! You have a Trader Joe’s AND a Whole Foods, I need to move out of Cedar Rapids! If my sump pump can’t keep up with all of this rain, I might have to move. My house might float away:) Have a great weekend!
