The Palouse Hills in southern Washington is a farming region characterized by it’s rolling hills and valleys, created during the ice age. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think this was a photo of central Italy! I’ll be sure to pass through on the Palouse Scenic Byway if I’m ever in the area. :)

Yes, I recently lived here. The ice age top soil that hold this dry land moisture better than anywhere else in the world. Known as the Palouse Kingdom. This photo was taken at sunrise in an early summer morning after a hard rain followed by super hot sun to give the top-soil a crispy look when standing next to it… with the sun and the soil you get purple ! so cool
I went to school out in Moscow, ID and got to drive the Palouse Scenic Byway all the time. Absolutely worth the trip, and it’s beautiful in the summertime…just make sure you stop in Pullman for some Cougar Gold Cheese!
As a former 23 year Pullman resident and someone who has driven the Palouse Scenic Byway (didn’t know there was an official name!) hundreds of times I can vouch that it is gorgeous and even prettier in person. Particularly in late August / fall time, the rolling hills of the Palouse are unbeatable :) Good choice!
This is really close to where I live! We’re just over the border in Oregon and head up that way often to shop and visit family. Another beauty really close to us — the Gorge! A must see if you’re ever over here :)
Yay Palouse! This is where I went to college (Washington State University, in Pullman, WA!!!!!)
