You’re either going to love me or hate me for this…
Let’s go with love though, for giggles. Undying, head-over-heels in love for bringing to your attention one of the most magnificent recipes to ever cross your lips: Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce. OH YES!
I actually grew up hating hot fudge sauce and, up until a few years ago, I never knew why. After tasting a homemade version at an ice cream social for work a few years ago though, it all clicked. The overly sweet  jarred stuff literally tastes nothing like homemade, and ever since then I’ve been hooked on making it myself. It’s so easy, I promise, and you’ll find yourself wanting to indulge in a bowl of cold vanilla ice cream drowning in warm, gooey hot fudge sauce every night from now on because of it. I say this from experience.
You’re welcome. I’m sorry.
Like I said – warm chocolate nirvana is not hard to make at all, and I bet you have 90% of the ingredients in your cupboard and refrigerator at this very moment!
Start by combining 2/3 cup + 2 Tablespoons heavy cream, 3oz Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt in a pan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 5 minutes while stirring.
Remove the pan from the heat then stir in an additional 3oz Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate and 3 Tablespoons butter until smooth. FYI, do not reduce the amount of butter in here or it won’t taste like brownie batter. If you’re going to go – go all out! Finally stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla until smooth.
Mmmmm.
MMMMMM!!
Let the hot fudge sauce cool slightly before devouring, or pour into jars with tight-fitting lids and store in the refrigerator for up to week. Reheating instructions in the recipe below!

Homemade Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce
Description
Homemade Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce is drippy, thick, and indulgent hot fudge sauce that tastes exactly like warm brownie batter.
Ingredients
- 6oz Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate, divided
- 2/3 cup + 2 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions
- Heat a medium-sized, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat then add half the chocolate, heavy cream, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. While stirring constantly, bring mixture to a boil then turn heat down to medium-low and continue to stir and cook for 5 minutes.
- Remove pan from heat then add remaining chocolate and butter, and then stir until smooth. Add vanilla then stir to combine. Cool slightly before using or, using a funnel, pour hot fudge sauce into jars with tight-fitting lids and store in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between intervals.

Homemade Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce isn’t just irresistible on ice cream, oh no. The sky’s the limit! Pump up chopped fruit, warm brownies or cake, or even warm milk with a hearty drizzle.
Whatever you do, don’t forget the cherry strawberry on top! ;)
First, congratulations on your pregnancy! Thank you for this recipe! I’ve been looking for a good homemade hot fudge sauce for a few years now and this one looks amazing! I’m currently pregnant and since I shouldn’t be eating real brownie batter, this might just be my replacement!
I hate you for this ;)
We are not all as lucky as you right now –being pregnant –and get to indulge in WHATEVER (well, maybe not whatever…) we want for nine months. There’s serious temptation here!
I think this will satisfy my chocolate fix for the week, YUM!! :)
Thanks for sharing some with us – our dessert was pure joy to eat!!!
If we didn’t know you were pregnant before, I think this recipe would confirm it! Don’t know about you, but the second trimester has brought on a severe sweet craving for me! This should hit the spot :)
Oh wow this looks immense!
Hot fudge? I love hot fudge sauce. Honest, I’ll order a sundae just to get the hot fudge. This looks killer!
This looks delicious! It would certainly be so perfect for homemade fondue!
Ahh, I’m dying! I love you so much but I hate that you always tempt me with these delicious food porn pics. :)
Boy or girl? You’re killing me smalls!
Thank you!!! I hate buying hot fudge because I’m not sure what some of the ingredients are (or how to pronounce them)!!!! Thank you, thank you!!
Wow! That looks amazing! I love hot fudge and I will definitely have to give this a try! You always have the best recipes!
looks delicious! will try this soon! Question: you mention corn syrup in the directions at the bottom but it isn’t listed in the ingredients. Is there corn syrup in the recipe?
Whoops, great catch, Erica! I originally wrote the hot fudge sauce recipe for a freelance project and used corn syrup in it, but adapted it for IGE to leave it out!
This sounds amazing! I have a feeling it would be dangerous to have around my house, there would be brownie batter hot fudge on everything :)
I still haven’t fully processed what I’m looking at. Amazing.
ohhhh wow. This sounds soooo good. I’m not originally really a hot fudge person either but maybe this recipe will change my ways!?! Putting it on the “to make ASAP” list. Thanks!
Oh man, this stuff looks dangerous! I just need some soft serve and chopped walnuts and I’m good to go!
Wow! You’re on a roll with these amazing recipes. I know you’ve done this in the past, but I was wondering if you could do a recap of your recipes every once a while, maybe based on a theme or ingredient. For example, your favorite spring recipes, or your favorite quinoa recipes. Sometimes you post a recipe that I love, but I forget to try. Just a suggestion. Thanks!
That’s a great idea, Teresa! I feel the same way about past recipes kind of getting lost out in la la land. I’ll try and do some more recipe recaps in the future!
Can hardly tell you’re pregnant :) I’m guessing a girl as supposedly they cause you to crave sweets!
Don’t worry — I only associate chocolate with love, not hate. I’m picturing this as the decadent topper for my morning oatmeal….yum.
