Today’s recipe for Homemade Gluten-Free Seasoned Salt falls under the “things you didn’t know you needed until you had them” category. Other contenders include remote starters on vehicles (did I mention how cold it is here?!) understanding how dog’s really drink water (umm,) and self-closing umbrellas (my in-laws got us one for Christmas and let me tell you – game changer!) Oh and Google Maps. What in the WORLD did we all do before Google Maps? Road atlas’…the horror!
Anyway, over the holidays I shared a recipe for Gluten-Free Chex Mix which called for homemade seasoned salt to flavor each delectable bite. It was as simple as looking at the ingredients on a bottle of Lawry’s online, then snagging the individual seasonings from my spice cupboard and mixing them together. Sans tricalcium phosphate, a key ingredient in Lawry’s, which I happened to be out of at the time.
(That’s a joke.)
ANYWAY, the homemade seasoned salt turned out so well that I made a huge batch of it to keep on my tray o’ seasonings and oils, conveniently located next to our stove, and have been adding it to pretty much everything I’ve simmered and sauted since.
Talk about a game changer!
4 ingredients – salt, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder – combine to make a pumped up, everyday, all-purpose seasoning that adds a ton of flavor to dishes without extra calories, fat, or effort, really. Mix up a batch then season away for days. Here’s how I’ve been using mine.
10 Ways to Use Gluten Free Seasoned Salt:
- Hard boiled eggs – slice, season, eat.
- Salads – sprinkle seasoned salt on top of greens then dress with lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. Per-fec-tion.
- Meats – season chicken, pork or steak then grill or saute away.
- Guacamole – mash together ripe avocado, seasoned salt, and lime juice then devour.
- Popcorn – spritz with a little extra virgin olive oil then sprinkle on seasoned salt. Crazy addicting.
- Vegetables – adding a dash to Lincoln’s steamed broccoli has been a runaway hit.
- Burgers – season ground beef with the blend then add Worcestershire sauce and pepper.
- Sweet Potato Fries – a family favorite! Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over sliced sweet potatoes then toss with seasoned salt and roast for 15-25 minutes at 425.
- Soups – a dash or 20 added to Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup? DIVINE.
- Mushrooms – saute sliced mushrooms in olive oil until the liquid has evaporated then season and continue to cook until golden brown.
While these 10 foods are complimented perfectly by the homemade gluten-free seasoned salt, there’s no limit to what you can add it to – including the recipe coming later this week. Blend up a batch and get ready!
How to Make Homemade Seasoned Salt:
This recipe is so self-explanatory that I can’t believe I’m showing you step-by-step photos, but, well, here we are!
Combine 5 Tablespoons salt, 1 Tablespoon paprika (regular, not smoked,) and 2 teaspoons each garlic and onion powder into a bowl.
Then, wait for it, stir to combine. Bet you didn’t see that coming!
Transfer the seasoned salt into a bowl or shaker, I bought the one you see in the other photos at the regular grocery store, then immediately start adding a boost of flavor to everything you cook!

Add a dash of Homemade Gluten-Free Seasoned Salt to just about anything to give it a boost of savory flavor.
- 5 Tablespoons salt
- 1 Tablespoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl then transfer to a shaker or seasoning bowl.
- Use seasoned salt as heavy handed or sparingly as you would regular salt - remember the majority is still salt, just with a little extra oomph!
