Grilled Asian Tofu is quick, light, and healthy. Whip up this vegetarian dinner for two tonight!
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 package extra firm tofu, pressed & sliced into 6 pieces
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
2 Tablespoons water
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon agave nectar (or honey)
1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Sprinkle red pepper flakes
Directions:
Combine all ingredients and marinate tofu slices for 10 minutes. Spray grilling surface with non-stick spray and grill for 3-4 minutes a side. Serve!
Oh. Baby. It’s been way too long since I last had tofu and this was the perfect way to bring it back – GRILLED! Well, sort of. You’ll see!
I started by marinating my tofu, (pressed in my handy dandy tofu press!) letting it soak up all the wonderful flavors for ~5 minutes a side.
Yum, yum, YUM!
Then I whipped this bad boy out – my Griddler! I totally forgot I had it!
I was planning on using the outdoor grill before I remembered the griddler, and was glad to make the switch because today’s a scorcher.
I pressed and “grilled” my tofu for about 7-8 minutes.
Ahhh – look at those grill marks! All of the presentation, but none of the sweating that comes along with standing around a hot grill in the sun. That’s something I can get into. ;)
Placed over a bed of brown rice and baby spinach sautéed in the remaining tofu marinade (there was ~1 teaspoon that the tofu hadn’t soaked up, which ended up being the perfect amount.)
Love-love-loving this dish. SO much! It was salty, and a tiny bit sweet – just the way I like it.
I’m going to go ahead and declare this a dish that even tofu haters might like. Try it out on someone who usually turnes their noses up, and let me know how it goes!

I have got to try the grilled tofu! It looks delish! There’s probably no way I’ll get my husband to eat a whole portion on his own, but maybe he can try a bit of mine!
Summer treats? Fruit, fruit, fruit! Fresh-from-the-farm strawberries in May, peaches in late June and July, watermelon and cantaloupe in August. Oh, and blueberries and cherries at the supermarket for a price I’m willing to pay! :D
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs 06.17.2010
I’ve used a marinade very similar to that (just minus the ginger but with cinnamon instead) lots of times; I agree, it truly is amazing!! It makes me feel sad for people that don’t like tofu :P

mhm, grilled tofu! it looks so great
Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear 06.17.2010
Wow, I want that grill too! I love kitchen gadgets :D

I’m sooooo jealous of your tofu press! I didn’t know those existed, so I’ve been pressing mine the old-fashioned way – between stacks of paper towels, with a plate and a couple soup cans on top. I looked for the tofu press on Amazon and it’s 36 bucks and not eligible for free shipping . . . boo!
Dawn 06.16.2010
36.00 Dollars!!! Yikes. I will stick to the plates and paper towels too!
Crimeny!

Never had grilled tofu… definitely trying it when I get back to the states!
My favorite summer treat would have to be grilled peaches with a dollop of greek yog =)

This dish looks delicious! I definitely need to try it. :)
My favorite summer treat is Izzy’s ice cream – specifically their Norwegian Chai ice cream, which is the most amazing ice cream flavor in the world. YUM! But all your talk about Tropical Sno makes me crave a ‘Georgia Peach’ sno. Hm, maybe I need to expedite my travels home to IA.

Mmm! Grilled tofu is one of my all-time favorite foods!

I love ice cream – I have the ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer, and homemade ice cream is soooo good! Highly recommend adding this maker to your wish list. The next flavor I’m going to try is cake batter ice cream for my nephew’s birthday party – I’m so excited!

This is a bit random, but while you are staying in because of the heat, we just turned our furnace BACK ON!!! It is 45 right now and is supposed to go down to the mid 30’s!!!

I love ‘fu :) Yours looks extra good with those beautiful grill marks :)
Autumn @ Good Eats Girl 06.16.2010
This looks really good…I have yet to try tofu…I’m still trying to get myself to purchase and make it! I also have to talk my husband into it!
I love tropical sno! My favorite summer treat is some sort of frozen popsicle/ice cream or strawberry shortcake.

I just went to HyVee tonight and bought some bomp pops! They were on sale for $2 a box!! I can’t get enough! I tend to love anything cold and sweet in the summer and variety is the spice of life!
Jenna 06.16.2010
Your presentation is so beautiful! I just want to jump into my computer screen and eat the tofu up. :)
My favorite summer treat would have to be ice cream. Soft serve froyo is even better, though!
Lauren @ eater not a runner 06.16.2010
Ice cream for sure!
Krista 06.16.2010
Your tofu looks amazing! I’ve never gotten ‘into’ it because every time I’ve had it while out, it’s been sponge-y and liquidy. Does that just mean it needs to be pressed more?
Jenny 06.16.2010
I love Alex and Mina’s blog! They’re amazing people!
Lauren 06.16.2010
Oh my, how I love tofu. I love to grill mine too but I haven’t done this in quite some time. Yours looks perfect!!
Another great grilled tofu dish is grilled tofu bruchetta. Grill tofu and top with bruchetta mixture. It’s heavenly!
Have fun tonight girly!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing 06.16.2010
YUM!!! I LOVE roasted tofu but I’ve never grilled it before! Genius!
Dawn 06.16.2010
That looks amazing but I am a little nervous to do it on my outdoor gas grill, maybe I should by a grill sheet or pan of some sort so it doesn’t fall thru the cracks.
I went to two stores this week looking for a tofu press, and no luck! ;-(
I have been to Brussells, now I don’t feel so bad, cuz I haven’t been to Italy and it seemed like all your readers, except me has!
I love soft serve anything! I even like it dipped in dark chocolate and dripping down my arms. Ugh… the mess and the calories! ;-)
