Hi there (I’m a random reader)!
I don’t know how much meat you eat and/or if you have family close by, but our family just went in on a 1/2 hog and 1/4 cow (by family I mean me/husband, dad, sister/husband). The cow was 93% lean and only about $2/lb (that’s $2/lb for the ground beef, the steaks, the stew meat, all of it). The pig was about $1.75-$2.00/lb (sausage, brats, porkchops, loins, etc). So, if you have the freezer space or people to share with, it makes a really good deal (plus you’re supporting local farmers!).
La Tiara taco shells are me and my husband’s favorite brand! They’re so light and crispy!
Love Monterrey! YUM!
The joke telling thing is common in Scotland too. Trick or Treating is quite a new import for us here – our kids used to go “guising” – usually with home made costumes and they had to tell a joke or sing a song before they got any treats.
Those enchiladas look soooo goood! :) May just have to stop at this restaurant when I am in the area!
ooooh that puppy costume is too cute!
I grew up in Cincinnati, OH & we always did trick-or-treating on Oct. 31st. Columbus, OH has something called Beggar’s Night, which is done before Halloween (this year it was this past Thursday, I think), which I always thought was weird & bizarre. And now that I live in Brookings, SD, trick-or-treating is apparently done on Oct. 31st as well, so I will be taking my baby Batman to a couple houses around our neighborhood in a couple hours!
in south dakota we had trick-or-treaters last night too, but i’m sure we’ll still have some tonight. i went to college at a smaller school in rural iowa, and the wednesday before halloween is when the dorms were opened up for the community to bring their kids through. it was super fun and a special treat to give out candy to kids in the dorms :)
Des Moines does trick or treating on October 30th every year. The kids also typically tell jokes to get their candy. Here’s a link to an article that explains how the tradition began:
I’m from Council Bluffs, Iowa and we always treat or trick on Halloween. Maybe that’s what they do in Des Moines?? Sounds like a smart idea!
It’s NOT a midwest thing … here in Chicago we trick or treat on the 31st!
Your nephew is the cutest little Dalmatian!
I think it’s a Midwest thing….Trick or Treat night in Ohio where I grew up was always the Saturday of Halloween weekend, didn’t matter if it was the 31st or not. Here in Denver, kids trick or treat on the 31st. I’m partial to the way we did it growing up….that way no poor parents are trying to get their kid to bed on Sunday night after getting them full of sugar. Also, I work at a school…can’t wait for all the sleep deprived, candy-filled kiddos to show up tomorrow! :)
Totally confused. Halloween is, um, today? Must do it up different in Iowa.
Finn is SO cute!
i’m so confused!!! i thought TONIGHT was Halloween???
our trick or treaters are coming tonight, on halloween! ;)
I agree with Adrienne, must be Iowa! Our kids are trick-or-treating tonight!
Those look like Enchiladas…Is that what a burrito is in Iowa? :)
HA! No, they are definitely enchiladas. I don’t know what I was thinking! Clearly friends shouldn’t let friends type when they are full of Mexican food… ;)
I’m from Tucson, AZ so I had to point it out!! Good Mexican food is an essential in life ;)
When I saw your comment on Twitter, I thought that maybe you’d gotten a puppy! Ha!
I so admire how productive you are… It’s impressive really.
Kids don’t trick-or-treat on October 31st in Iowa?
