Roses are red, violets are blue,
I’ve got something to share with you!
We’ve got two boys, they are our whole world,
which it’s about to expand by one little girl.
A party of 5 is what we’ll soon be,
and this little family is filled with glee!
Guys, there’s a very clear reason I haven’t written a poem since the 6th grade. Thank you Rhymer.com for help with…whatever that was…but yes, we are having another baby. I still almost can’t believe it!
As I mentioned in my post announcing our pregnancy with Cameron, I am very sensitive to the feelings of the women and men who are praying to God and pleading with the universe to bless them with a precious little one. Please know that I see your desires and struggles and wish nothing more then to be by your side with a supportive squeeze and listening ear. You got this.
But yes, a baby girl. Sugar, spice and everything nice! I am full of feels. ALL the feels, hahaha! Shock, excitment, nervousness – did I mention shock? I’ll admit I’ve raised a proverbial eyebrow in the past when people claim to know the gender of their baby before an anatomy scan, or having the baby of course, but the eyebrow is forever lowered because I knew from day one this child was a girl. My pregnancy with both boys was identical but since the day I got a positive test, everything’s been different. Crazy nausea, headaches 24/7, insanely vivid dreams. If that wasn’t enough, the moment she popped up on the screen during our first ultrasound at 11 weeks (I’m 17 weeks right now – due in late July) all I could see in my mind was a giant red heart. A girl…I just knew it.
Fast forward several weeks later and I got a call from our doctor’s office with the results of some blood tests that would also tell us gender. “Um, how accurate are these tests?” I asked the nurse on the phone. “Hmmm, let me check,” she said while rifling through some papers. “Oh, here it is. 99.9% accurate.”Â
Ok then!!
Hey listen, I have two brothers, two little boys, and am the least girly girl on the planet to boot, so to be honest with you I had a minor panic attack when the news I’d felt in my bones since the beginning was confirmed on paper. Barbies, bows and nail polish are foreign territory, but I can handle it. (**Edited to add: of course being a girl doesn’t automatically mean these things – I was a tomboy!) Where my thoughts immediately went was mean girls. Peer pressure. Body image. BOYS!!!! Which is weird since I had a mostly normal and happy teenage existence. I just very quickly realized how big of a part I’ll play in raising a strong and independent, kind and responsible woman. No pressure! Luckily my sister-in-law wisely advised me to focus on the here and now – aka picking out an adorable, ruffly onesie for her to come home in.
Everyone asks how Ben is feeling about having a third, and a girl. Umm, Ben is probably the most excited! We both grew up with two siblings and have always felt like a full house was a fun house. Lincoln is so so pumped, and Cameron has no idea, poor thing. We’ll get him a doll in the next month or two so he can start practicing. He and little sis will be 21 months apart.
Ok, parents of 3+ and/or 2 under 2, talk to me about:
- Double strollers. Lightweight, jogging – let me have it.
- SUV car seat configurations (what we currently have.) I’m all for becoming a mad mom in a minivan but Ben is insisting we hold onto what’s left of our cool card for as long as possible.
- Literally everything else. Give me all your good stories and advice. I feel WAY less nervous about having this baby then I did Cameron for about 100 different reasons, but being a mother to three precious children under five is still somewhat terrifying.
Thank you for allowing me share our wonderful news with you – oh my gosh, it feels so good to not hold it in anymore! I think this may help connect the dots as to why I’ve felt a bit preoccupied lately too. I’m finally past the “I’m so tired all I want to do is stare at the wall” phase, but being pregnant with two little boys and a business is no joke. So that said, thank you also for your understanding if things get a little willy nilly here for awhile. I am grateful to have the best, most loyal and supportive readers in the world. <3

Congratulations!! I have two boys and a girl also (my daughter is the youngest, too). SO much fun! Double strollers arnt fun – I bought a giant Graco double stroller thinking it’d be awesome – but it’s so darn heavy I never wanted to bring it anywhere. I’d get one that doesn’t weigh very much. I’d probably get one that had the capacity to turn into a sit and stand. We have an suv (I’d totally drive a mini van – I could give a sh*t about cool points – it’s all about convience). Diono are great car seats that can fit three side by side. We actually have two graco car seats for my boys that are on the thinner side but bought a diono for my daughter and they all three fit great side by side. If we had to replace any car seats we’d by all diono. They have a steel frame so they feel legit. I’m still figuring out the mom of three thing and my daughter is almost 2 lol. The other night my oldest was melting down because he’s sick, my middle was not listening, my youngest was scaling furniture and my dog was jumping up eating food off the counter. So basically you just learn to laugh at the chaos! I’m sure you guys will do great! Sounds like you both came from a family of three kids so you’ll probably be used to the business of three! It’s honestly amazing and fun!

Congrats!! I had two boys, then a girl and that third pregnancy sure was different too. My girl was a mix of girly and tom boy. She was by far the best athlete too. Enjoy these moments. they really are the best.

Aaaaagh! Congratulations!!! So exciting!
Katie 02.18.2018
Congratulations! I felt the same about my first girl and now I have two and wouldn’t change it for the world! I’m still terrible at braids but they don’t care! ;) All I have left to say is… GET THE MINIVAN! I never wanted a minivan AT ALL but it is the best with 3 kids. And automatic sliding doors?! Come on! It’s literally life changing and I’m not even being dramatic! haha!
Shannon 02.17.2018
Go for the minivan. You won’t regret it!
Leesa 02.17.2018
Congratulations! Can’t help you with much but I do suggest that you and Ben go and look at/test drive a minivan because womg they have updated them so much over the years. I promise you he will love all the bells and whistles they come with now – and they look so much like a suv now…
Erica 02.17.2018
Congrats!!! Absolutely get the minivan! Love love love our Pacifica. My husband also wanted to hold out, but surprisingly loves it now too. Sliding doors are game-changing. And the built in TV for long drives is too. I like our city select double stroller and also bought a second hand double jogger – we use both for different scenarios.

I dod not know if anyone else said this as I did not want to read the 171 previous comments, but first, Congrats. Second, you and Ben will now be outnumbered. LOL

Congratulations!! I’m a Mom of 3 (5,3 and 4 months) and while it has been quite an adjustment it’s been wonderful! My recommendation: Buy the van! My only regret is not buying one sooner! It has made my life so much easier and it drives like a dream (not like driving a bus like I thought it’d be!)
Kelly 02.17.2018
Oh congratulations!!! Girls are soooo fun. (We have 4 girls and 1 boy). LOVE my One Step Ahead double jogging stroller. And I am totally with you on the mini van idea. We currently drive an SUV and our kids are begging for a van so that we have more room, but I just don’t know if I can do it. LOL
Enjoy your pregnancy!

Oh I’m so happy to hear your news, I cried :)
Our 3rd just turned a year old and he is the best thing to happen to our family….to see the dynamics between the kids is the absolute best part. They love each other like crazy. You will likely feel crazy most the time, but your heart will swell a million fold. Take lots of pictures, because as you know the days go by slow but the years go by fast.

Congratulations, so exciting! I have heard many people say their pregnancies were different with different genders. I have a boy and girl but my pregnancies were pretty much identical. We didn’t find out the sex before hand but it was an awesome surprise when they were born. Get ready for some pink! ??

I have a 3 yr old girl, 2 year old son and a 10 week son. My best advice for a stroller is a double umbrella stroller for the 2 big kids and wear the baby. I got my double stroller from Wal Mart for $50 and leave it in the car for errands, dr appts etc. Congrats!

Congratulations! So happy for you!

Congratulations! How exciting! Get a minivan, you seriously won’t regret it! And 3 has been the most perfect number for our family. Just go with the flow and don’t stress too much about the little stuff.

Congratulations!! So happy for you and your family!

Congratulations!!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you all! I have a 26 year old stepson, 9year old son and a 4 year old daughter. I cried for 3 days when I found out I was having a girl. I always thought I would be a boy mom. While I’m girly, having a girl scared me. All girls are different and you will do great with her. Just beware; girls are so different than boys. I can’t wai5 to follow along your journey!!!
Allison Frederick 02.16.2018
Congrats! I’m not brave enough to have a third! Just the two I have run me ragged most of the time. :)
