This weekend doesn’t have to end yet, does it?
It’s been a fabulous mix of work and play, mixed with some gorgeous weather, and has gone by way too fast!
This morning and afternoon was more work than play, and I started with a trip to the grocery store. I got a HUGE haul while enjoying a nice No-Foam Skinny Vanilla Starbucks Latte while I shopped.
I usually wait until I leave to grab a drink from the in-store Starbucks, but I was nearly blown over by a freezing cold wind gust on my way in and needed something to warm up with. I liked it!
Anywho, here’s my loot – combined with a few items I got at Trader Joe’s yesterday:
Fridge & Freezer Items
(With yogurt price comparisons, for fun!)
- Skim milk
- Trader Joe’s extra-firm tofu
- French Vanilla coffee creamer
- AE Plain Greek Yogurt ($.99/6oz)
- 2 Mango Chobani Greek Yogurts ($1.50/6oz)
- AE fat-free cottage cheese
- Mozzarella string cheese
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Shredded cheddar jack cheese
- Corn tortillas
- Raspberry Noosa Yoghurt ($2.50/8oz)
- Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake
- Chopped frozen spinach
Meat & Fish
- Trader Joe’s Curry Chicken Tenders
- Frozen chicken breasts
- Smart chicken breasts
- La Quercia prosciutto
Pantry Items
- 3 Clif Kid Honey Graham Z-Bars
- Trader Joe’s animal crackers (total post-Water for Elephants impulse purchase!)
- Canned corn
- Trader Joe’s brown basmati rice
- Mango butter
- Enchilada sauce
Produce
- Green beans
- Cantaloupe
- 2 mangoes
- Avocado
- Broccoli florets
- Strawberries
- Lettuce blend
- Baby spinach
- Fresh basil
- 4 kiwi
All for…$80. I knoooow. I went WAY over budget this week. $20 over! Some impulse purchases like mango butter & animal crackers, and a TON of chicken helped contribute to the cost. You can never have too much chicken though, I feel.
3pm rolled around and my darling husband rescued me from the kitchen and my laptop, which I had barely budged from all day. Later laptop, hello tennis courts!
Ben and I started playing tennis when we moved to Minneapolis after college. He bought us rackets for my 23rd birthday (omg to be 23 again!) and we played at least 3 times a week at the courts by his house at the time.
4 years later and we’re still no good – but we sure have a good time trying!
It actually works out pretty well because we get an awesome workout in chasing after all those balls. We’re completely exhausted by the time we’re done.
The couple that plays (poorly) together, stays together!

What do you and your sweetie like to do together?
Ben and I like walks and playing tennis. We also like eating candy together. I know – we’re 10.
I saw enchilada sauce in your pantry items picture. Have you tried Trader Joes’ Enchilada Sauce? It’s my favorite. Love your blog!
Just came across this old post, if you don’t mind me asking, what sort of dinner meals did you make with these groceries. I was trying to put it all together and could only come up with 1 or 2. THanks! LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
Haha, those are sweet couple likes! :)
My husband and I love lifting, biking along the coast, reading and finding new beers together. Very boring and simple, but perfection in my world.
If you are interested, I have a homemade recipe for the Kashi Mayan Harvest Bake that is totally worth the time and effort. And it’s a big cassarole that can be frozen and tastes better than the stuff in the box!
And tennis and walking are always good because they are (fairly) low-impact and lifelong activities.
I am obsessed with Chipotle :) It really is the BEST.
Yummm, Chipotle.
My boyfriend and I like to look at cute animal pictures and videos on the internet together…we’re such suckers for cute things. :)
Wow those groceries are CHEAP! I would love to get all that for $80, here in NY with a comparable shopping cart I’d easily have passed $100 at check-out for that haul, my guess is $115-ish. Amazing the difference geography makes on grocery (and gas!) prices these days…
Seeing that Hy-Vee cart makes me smile :-) How I miss it so here in NYC. I may have already mentioned this but whenever I go back to Omaha, the first thing I do is roam the aisles of Hy-Vee. So jealous that you can get all of that for $80 though. $80 barely gets me two good meals here. I wish they would lower the grocery store prices! The broiled fruit looks delicious; can’t wait for the recipe.
I was rooting for Soul Daddy! What can I say? I’m a sucker for a sappy back-story :-)
The hubs and I like to play disc golf, cook and brew beer together.
Aaaaand apparently make blueberry crisp together because that is what we will be doing tonight.
i was really mournful for the weekend to end this week too.
Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog…made my morning!
My hubs and I like cooking, watching movies and taking walks. Awwwww. ;)
I have a weird love for Hyvee. I love their value and their generic products, and miss it since living in the Quad Cities a few years back. Jealous!
They are seriously the best. Top 5 things I missed when I lived in a state that didn’t have one nearby!
I totally agree that the couple that plays together stays together! My love and I have run a half-marathon together and love going on bike rides.
My husband and I just started playing tennis together last summer. It’s so much fun! We have some modified rules because we’re pretty bad. Spending most of the time chasing the ball is definitely a good workout!
I am with you guys, totally bummed that Spice Coast didn’t win! My husband and I are going to be up in the cities next weekend and we were planning to go check out the new restaurant, but now that it is Soul Daddy – not so sure!
I was SO disappointed that Spice Coast didn’t win! I was rooting for him so badly! I thought he had such a great concept. Who needs another soul food type restaurant?! I was so annoyed by that!
My fiance is a big tennis player. He played all through high-school and college. He still plays on a league now. I occasionally like to play with him but I am so bad at it. Haha.
27 is not old :) talk to me when you’re 30! (even that’s not old, I say…) My husband and I do a lot of walking/hiking together. For “real” exercise, we do our own thing but those mellow outdoor activities are always a blast.
Matt and I like to ride motorcycles together. We also like to watch movies and drink beer. Oh, and work on yard projects together. Granted I move a little slower with the wood chipper than he would like but we still have a pretty good rhythm in regard to getting the job done.
We can’t play sports because we are both WAY too competitive.
