You’re either going to love me or hate me for this…
Let’s go with love though, for giggles. Undying, head-over-heels in love for bringing to your attention one of the most magnificent recipes to ever cross your lips: Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce. OH YES!
I actually grew up hating hot fudge sauce and, up until a few years ago, I never knew why. After tasting a homemade version at an ice cream social for work a few years ago though, it all clicked. The overly sweet  jarred stuff literally tastes nothing like homemade, and ever since then I’ve been hooked on making it myself. It’s so easy, I promise, and you’ll find yourself wanting to indulge in a bowl of cold vanilla ice cream drowning in warm, gooey hot fudge sauce every night from now on because of it. I say this from experience.
You’re welcome. I’m sorry.
Like I said – warm chocolate nirvana is not hard to make at all, and I bet you have 90% of the ingredients in your cupboard and refrigerator at this very moment!
Start by combining 2/3 cup + 2 Tablespoons heavy cream, 3oz Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt in a pan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 5 minutes while stirring.
Remove the pan from the heat then stir in an additional 3oz Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate and 3 Tablespoons butter until smooth. FYI, do not reduce the amount of butter in here or it won’t taste like brownie batter. If you’re going to go – go all out! Finally stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla until smooth.
Mmmmm.
MMMMMM!!
Let the hot fudge sauce cool slightly before devouring, or pour into jars with tight-fitting lids and store in the refrigerator for up to week. Reheating instructions in the recipe below!

Homemade Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce
Description
Homemade Brownie Batter Hot Fudge Sauce is drippy, thick, and indulgent hot fudge sauce that tastes exactly like warm brownie batter.
Ingredients
- 6oz Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate, divided
- 2/3 cup + 2 Tablespoons heavy cream
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions
- Heat a medium-sized, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat then add half the chocolate, heavy cream, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. While stirring constantly, bring mixture to a boil then turn heat down to medium-low and continue to stir and cook for 5 minutes.
- Remove pan from heat then add remaining chocolate and butter, and then stir until smooth. Add vanilla then stir to combine. Cool slightly before using or, using a funnel, pour hot fudge sauce into jars with tight-fitting lids and store in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between intervals.

I made this hot fudge for my family and everybody loved it! It was super easy to make too. We have some of the heavy cream left that I’ll have to make a second batch soon!!
Fabulous!! So glad you found it easy, tasty, and second batch-worthy!

This was delicious! We made a half-batch because I didn’t have quite enough chocolate to make the whole thing. Yum!
We made this tonight and loved it! It hardens as it cools, which I had thought of for some reason, but it was delicious hot or cold! :)

Hi! I enjoy your recipes plus the associated stories.
Congrats to you and Ben!
I just had a thought – you use so many local ingredients I was wondering if you’d ever shopped and Penzey’s for spices?
Keep up the great work!
I love Penzey spices! I got a grilling set and a baking set for wedding shower gifts and they are wonderful!
