Chicken Caesar Burgers

Chicken Caesar Burgers have all the flavor of the classic salad in burger form!

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Hi everyone, hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Ben surprised me by taking Friday off, so I set my to-do list aside and we played hooky for the day! Between shopping, stuffing ourselves with Mexican food for lunch, and enjoying a quiet dinner downtown, we caught a quick 9 holes on the golf course in the afternoon. I just love driving that little electric cart (and catching serious air over hidden holes on the green! Ahem.)

It was approximately 14,000 degrees, give or take a few thousand, so we weren’t even mad when the sprinklers came on in the middle of hole 6. Baha!

The highlight of our Saturday was finding Chobani on sale at HyVee – 10/$8.88 aka the best deal I’ve ever found – to which I might have blacked out and bought over $20 worth of yogurt. (Thank you, Ben, for this embarrassing photo!)

And inviting the family over for a BBQ later that night! Ben and I picked up the best New York Strips from Costco then paired them with fresh local sweet corn, a berry salad, chips & dip, and these awesome zucchini boats. It was my niece and nephew’s first time at the house, and I think they dug it, as Finn proclaimed 5 minutes into the visit “I can do whatever I WANT here!”

It was a rainy Sunday, which was fine as back pain (sciatic not labor, sigh!) kept me couch-bound nearly the entire day. We haven’t had rain in weeks and it’s always amazing to see how it coaxes flowers and veggies out so much better than water from the sprinkler. I wonder why that is?

At any rate, the rain broke in time for a late grilled lunch, so I threw together a dish that popped into my head after Ben’s Caesar Salad-loving revelation last week – Chicken Caesar Burgers!

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Ground chicken is spiced with classic caesar salad flavors like parmesan cheese, caesar salad dressing, worcestershire sauce, and fresh lemon juice, then shaped into patties and tossed onto a smoky grill. Topped with fresh ingredients like romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions, this is one yummy, salad-turned-burger recipe!

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Start with 1lb ground chicken. Sometimes I can find 99% lean ground chicken breast at my store, other times it’s this 95/5 blend. Whatever you prefer, and can find, is fine! The 95/5 blend will render a more juicy burger, but be higher in fat. You’ve probably already figured that out though.

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

To the chicken add 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese, and 6 Tablespoons bread crumbs. The panko bread crumb fairy came and stole box of crumbs (seriously, where did it go?!) so I used regular, plain bread crumbs. Whatever you’ve got!

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Next add 3 minced garlic cloves and 2 Tablespoons caesar salad dressing.

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

I have always loved this Brianna’s Homestyle Caesar dressing, btw. It’s thick, it’s creamy, it’s just fabulous.

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Finally add 1 Tablespoon each Worcestershire sauce and fresh lemon juice.

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Mix everything together until just combined, then shape into 4 patties.

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Brush the tops with extra virgin olive oil (or spray with nonstick spray) then grill for 4-5 minutes per side over medium heat, brushing the tops with more oil before flipping. If you don’t have a grill, or it’s raining or something, these burgers are totally fine made indoors in a skillet.

Chicken Caesar Burgers |

Give your buns a nice toast on the grill (heh) then place a patty on top followed by a touch more dressing, romaine lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and red onion. Ben recommends tossing the lettuce in caesar dressing before placing on top of the patty for an extra oomph of flavor. ;)

If I hadn’t had this pain on and off for months, I’d be really excited. That said, you never know!! :)

Love your blog! We toast Panera’s asiago cheese bread with a little butter to make croutons for our Caesar. Try Kens light Caesar dressing, lots of pepper and Parmesan cheese.. So good!

I’m surprised Ben isn’t saving his days off for when your baby arrives. Those burgers look delicious!

    • Dena 07.22.2013

Maybe Ben doesn’t have to save days off. Maybe he has plenty :)

  6. Tom T. 07.22.2013

This looks awesome. I am always looking for new burger ideas, kinda burned out on regular burgers half way through summer. Thanks for the great idea.

  8. Anne [A Squared] 07.22.2013

That’s the best deal on Chobani I have ever seen! Super jealous.

  9. Tieghan 07.22.2013

    Amazing! These sound incredible!

  10. Rose 07.22.2013

Have you been doing any cooking in preparation for the baby? i.e., making casseroles, muffins, etc. for the freezer so that you can just pop them into the over/slowcooker when you are at home with the new baby? I would love to hear about your food prep for baby!

    • Iowa Girl Eats 07.22.2013

Ugh definitely not as much as I should have. I have a lasagna in there as well as a few batches of mushroom/beef spaghetti sauce. Luckily my parents are 10 minutes away, and my Mom still cooks like all 3 kids are home (aka lots of extras!)

  11. Looks like you had an awesome weekend (minus the back pain). Gotta love a Chobani sale! I’ve been hunting for the new coconut flavor, it sounds so good!
That dressing sounds amazing…shredded asiago? Yum!

  12. Melissa 07.22.2013

What a great sale on yogurt and Chobani, of all brands! I love when I score deals like that. Glad to hear your weekend was a pleasant one and those burgers look gorgeous!

  13. This seriously hits the spot! I was just watching the news and saw how Kate Middleton is in labor today. It made me wonder if you were hanging in there. It’s funny how you remember the famous people who are pregnant along side you. For my first, Rachel from Friends was having Ross’s baby. I was totally jealous of her perfect shiny fake bump.

  14. I had to laugh at your Chobani experience because I kind of did the same thing the other week when I visited their shop in Soho, NYC. They had all the new flavors there and I would have thought it would be more expensive but it was actually cheaper than the grocery store!

  15. Wendy 07.22.2013

I had to stop eating chobani because the yogurt aisle at my grocery store is crazy bananas, no one can ever commit to a flavor and stands there for hours trying to decide. I miss the delish flavors but not the stress.

  16. What an awesome idea! I think that I need to making a veg version!

  17. Glad you had such a great weekend! These burgers look so scrumptious!

  18. Love this alternative to traditional burgers! Looks amazing!

You’re Hy-Vee trip is making me seriously miss living across the street from one of their stores! Since moving to Kentucky, I’ve grown to loathe Kroger. Hy-Vee FTW!

  21. ALEXANDRA 07.22.2013

How do you prepare the new York strip steak? My husband and I just bought a grill and we are trying to learn the tricks to grilling since we’ve never been grillers before!

  22. Tracy 07.22.2013

I was so excited to see that Chobani deal at my HyVee, too. Unbelievable!

Will you remind me of your due date? It’s getting very close right??

    • Iowa Girl Eats 07.22.2013

This Friday (but hopefully a bit sooner!) ;)

      • Tracy 07.22.2013

Oh goods luck! I hope it’s sooner!

        Blessings! Take care :)

No responses to comments from IGE all day — do we think she’s in labor like the Duchess? ;)

  24. Kimberly 07.22.2013

Looks wonderful! I love working with ground chicken when I can.

  25. Elizabeth 07.22.2013

First of all…love your blog and I am also a UNI grad (go panthers!)

I am also pregnant, but not due until December. I am wondering if you have made any freezer meals to have on hand after your little one arrives or if you compile a list of your favorite freezer meals.

  26. Looks delicious! For some reason I never see ground chicken at my grocery store, just ground beef and ground turkey. Do you go somewhere special? Do you think the recipe would work as well with turkey? I’ve been craving lots of burgers since getting pregnant so it would be nice to add this to the rotation!

  27. Kim S 07.22.2013

These look great! I bought this dressing for the first time to make your chicken caesar chalupas. We fell in love with that dressing, and we are hooked! I should buy that stuff by the case…for real!
btw, I made your summer vegetable quinoa tonight. Delicious!! Thanks for so many great recipes!

These burgers look/sound absolutely fantastic! I am a fan of anything made with chicken over beef since I don’t eat red meat. I will be making these soon and hopefully will be able to convince someone to enjoy them with me :)
    Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  35. Chobani 07.23.2013

No judgies about scooping up CHO when it’s on sale! Blacking out and ending up with 30 cups? Been there, done that. ;)

    Have a great week, Kristin!

    Amy, @Chobani

  36. Megan 07.23.2013

Do you think this will work with turkey, too?

    • anna 07.24.2013

I used 99% lean ground turkey and they were just fine. Scaled up the ingredients just slightly since you get 1.2 lbs or whatever it is in the packs that I buy.

Went to the DM Farmers Market Saturday morning, what a beautiful day! While I was waiting in line at Dos Rios for my breakfast bowl aka nachos I saw you guys walk by, you could not look cuter! And btw, I had never tried the Dos Rios bowl before, I had only tried the traditional bowls, it was delish and now I have to figure out how to eat both in one morning. Lol. The sweet corn I bought there was sooooo good.
