[NEW on the Family Channel – My Mommy Mind: 18 Month Update >]
Hidy ho my favorite people!
This week absolutely flew by thanks to a few fun evenings out on the town. On Tuesday I went to a great local social media event, then Wednesday I had drinks and apps with a girlfriend after work. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, girl time feeds the soul like nothing else. This week was a good reminder to peel off my semi-permanently-attached slippers and GET OUT THERE!
Another highlight from the week? Absolutely slaying a batch of hard-boiled eggs. I like to keep HBE in the fridge because they’re so easy to eat when I need a quick, healthy snack or something to tide me over until dinnertime but, let’s be real, they’re a pain in the buns to peel. Lately I’ve been having terrible luck with losing half the egg in the peeling process but this time I hardly lost a drop (and no idea why.) So much win!
What is my life coming to when I get this excited about eggs? You know what, don’t answer that. :)
Anyway, nothing specific on tap for the weekend – it’s supposed to finally warm up from the negative temps we’ve been having so probably lots of snow and sled time for Mr. Lincoln who, in case you missed it, turned 18 months old this week! G-A-S-P.
Well wherever you are and whatever you do have a wonderful weekend and in the meantime please enjoy my favorite finds from around the web and beyond in this week’s Friday Favorites!

Favorite sip: The Best Coconut Margarita Recipe. It’s always around this time of year, when the snow and cold temps are just relentless, that I start dreaming of a tropical getaway. Although my suitcase is empty, my shopping list is about to fill up with the ingredients to make these tropical-inspired margs from Heidi @ Foodie Crush. Beachy bliss.
Favorite DIY: Rustic Crate How To. I had just decided to put a long flower box on my entryway table that I was having trouble styling a few weeks back, when I stumbled upon this how to post! I will for sure give you an update if I decided to give it a go, otherwise I’ve found some pretty sweet ones on Etsy, too.
Favorite fresh: Cauliflower Rice Lettuce Cups with Siracha Peanut Sauce. Told you cauliflower was having a moment. ;) Love this fresh and healthy Thai-inspired lettuce wrap recipe. Can’t wait to give it a try.
Favorite maybe? Whole 30. Whole 30 has exploded over the last couple of years and I’ve been toying around with the idea of doing it since last summer. That said I don’t know what it would look like for IGE. 30 days of my Whole 30 eats in a food diary-type format (for you OG readers, it would be more like the first two years of the blog) + Whole 30-friendly recipes? Does anybody have any thoughts on this? Love it? Hate it and would stop reading for a month? Don’t care either way? I want to do it for my health, and I know that trumps everything in life, but I also realize it could be strange and risky to change the course of my blog for a whole month… Hmm.
Favorite find: Favorite Sources: Decorative Objects. I feel like decorating the house is not only hard because well, it’s FREAKING HARD, but also because it feels like I see the same things at the same stores over and over and over again. That said I was pumped to find this enormous roundup from Teal & Lime on all the different places you can find fun, unique, and interesting decor for any style.
Favorite snack: Pizza Kale Chips. Yuuuuup.
Favorite decor: How To Make a Small Room Look Bigger. This setup is amazing!! It’d be perfect for our formal living room where we have uh, nothing on the walls. Now to find an enormous mirror that doesn’t cost a gazillion dollars.
Favorite flashback: THE GANG IS BACK!!! Best 8 minutes of my life spent watching this video. Wait for Jesse’s face at 4:28. I’m still dying. Someone needs to create a meme stat.
Favorite dinner: Easy Chicken Breasts with Creamy Mushroom Sauce. Another winner from Heidi @ Foodie Crush! Simple. Quick. Satisfying. Also, mushrooms. :)
Favorite reminder. Ugh, most amazing thing I’ve read in a long time.
Favorite treat: Yogurt Tart with Oat Crust. Is it breakfast? Dessert? Who cares – this tart looks delicious!
Favorite natural: All-Purpose Healing Stick. I’ve mentioned a few times here on IGE that I’ve dabbled in essential oils over the past year and a half, so the combo of oils in this all-purpose stick intrigues me for using on everything from blemishes to bug bites. Totally trying it out. My Mom used a combo of oils (of course right now I forget which ones) as bug repellent last summer that she swore by.
Favorite Etsy: 12 Bottle High Capacity Wine Rack. Isn’t this an amazing wine rack? I especially like the big bolt details at the top and bottom.
Favorite remix: Chicken Enchilada Stuffed Zucchini Boats. My Pinterest feed has been blowing up with delicious looking Mexican recipes lately and these caught my eye for being decadent yet healthy at the same time. Mouthwatering!
Favorite fashion: Striped Pareo. I started with a vacation-inspired find and I’ll end with one too. Isn’t this bathing suit cover up adorable?? I love how it’s shorter in the front and looks like it could be easily tailored for any height (it’s a one size pareo. And don’t think I knew what a pareo meant until I Googled that ‘ish before writing about it here.) :)

I’d love to see some Whole 30 recipes! And I always enjoy your Friday Favorites and come away with some new ideas! Thanks :)

Yes to following you for whole 30!! I did it last year and it’s a total game changer. It makes everything feel better from sleep, skin, energy, workouts, and the list goes on. And it’s a great way to experiment with new recipes! I might just need to try another round of it, especially if you’ll be doing it here! :)
Kim B 02.06.2015
Yes, would love your blog to cover your Whole 30 experience! I did it a year ago and although it was tough it was so worth it. Figuring out how certain foods affect my body and the way I feel totally changed the way I eat now.
Jen 02.06.2015
another advocate for whole30. I just did and it’s so worth it. I will definitely do it again. the first week sucks but after that it gets better. also, it’s surprising how creative you can be with food and I would love to see what you come up with.
Natasha 02.06.2015
Haven’t done one, but I’d be up to do a Whole 30 with a group of people!!
JenJen 02.06.2015
I’ve been toying with the idea of doing the Whole 30 too, so it would be awesome to read about it another current perspective!
Sarah 02.06.2015
I am a long time reader but a first time commenter.
Definitely do Whole30! I finished my first one a week ago, and am about to start round 2 next week! I would love love love to see your experience and read your thoughts!

I think I’ve tried every trick in the book and I still can’t get hard boiled eggs to peel without taking a bunch of the egg white. And yet I keep going back for more.
KI'm 02.06.2015
I’ve heard that really fresh eggs don’t peel as well – but haven’t tested the theory myself!
Deanna 02.06.2015
This is so true – I’ve seen it! Older eggs peel so much better for hard boiled eggs.
Bonnie 02.06.2015
Agreed! That was one of my mom’s tips. She’d aways use the freshest eggs for other dishes, but save the older ones for boiling/deviled eggs, etc. No gouges in the egg white – they’d come out perfect.
Rosie 02.06.2015
You should definitely do a Whole30! I’m actually on Day 26 of my first one and if I can do it while working next to the test kitchen at one of the top baking companies in the country, than anyone can. I feel better than I have in years and encourage everyone to look into it. Check out the Well Fed and Well Fed 2 cookbooks by Mel from theclothesmakethegirl.com – I’ve cooked exclusively from them since I started and I’ve been eating the best food. I’d love to follow your journey on the blog and see what recipes you can come up with!

I am currently on my 3rd round of Whole30 and while there are more and more resources popping up on the internet for recipes, I would absolutely LOVE to get some great IGE Whole30 ideas. I have actually used a lot of your recipes during my Whole30 with just a few adaptations here and there. It truly is a life changing experience – it allows you to really see how different foods can change the way your body looks and feels. It could be fun to start a “community” Whole30 when you do yours! Moral support is one of the biggest helps throughout the 30 days!
Jennifer 02.06.2015
Hi! Please Please Please do a Whole30! I just finished up my second round last month! It has completely changed my life. I found out I’m gluten intolerant…and also dairy and corn do not agree with me either. It would be great to see what you would eat and get more recipe ideas! I’m pretty much living a whole9 lifestyle. I’m gradually adding things back in…certain cheeses are ok with me and rice and oatmeal are ok too. This. Would. BE. Awesome. Love your blog!
Ginny 02.06.2015
Yes!! Please do the Whole 30. I would love to see what you eat everyday so that I could copy :) Thanks for the FF – always love seeing what you pick!
Laura 02.06.2015
I would love to follow you on a Whole 30 as well! I did a very loose version of it last summer and the results were amazing! I didn’t lose a ton of weight (I’m not overweight by any means), but I lost inches, it flattened my belly and strangely my knee pain went away (weird bonus!) and I gained TONS of energy. I’d love to do it again, unfortunately the cold and MAJOR snow we’ve been having calls for COMFORT FOOD!
Chicago Jogger 02.06.2015
I love that wine rack & the delicious recipes! Mouthwatering :) For huge mirrors, I highly recommend Home Goods. I found a fairly large one for only $40.
Brittany 02.06.2015
I just LOVE friday favorites :)
I have NOT heard happy things of WHOLE30 haha. People are miserable, however, it does work and if you need to do a cleanse like that I think it is the best one out there,health-wise, instead of juice diet. I would definitely still follow! It would be nice to have some healthy recipes to go to even if I am not doing a whole30! Go for it!
Tara 02.06.2015
I definitely think you should try the Whole 30! It’s always fun to switch things up.
Donna 02.06.2015
I would LOVE to see a month of Whole 30 meal ideas…not to mention I loved the OG format
Melissa 02.06.2015
Would LOVE to follow you on a Whole 30. I also have been toying with the idea but haven’t made the leap yet. I am sure your recipes and ideas would help keep me going! If you do decide, would you let your readers know in advance when you plan to start?
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life 02.06.2015
Always love your Friday Favorites! Thanks for linking up, my friend.
And I, too, have been intrigued by essential oils. Perhaps we shall include that discussion in our next email ;)
Ashley 02.06.2015
Yes, please do a month of Whole 30! I am curious to see it because I keep hearing about it! Thanks:)
