Happy Friday, friends! Did this week fly by for anyone else, or was it just me? Maybe it was because I spent the last half in a Benedryl haze. Just kidding – fun fact: I am immune to the sleepy side effects of antihistamines. Ben could swallow half a tiny pill and be sawing logs five minutes later. Me? Completely unaffected. That is to say my spring allergies have been awful this week.
So glad we had this talk! ?
Anyway, before we dive into today’s Friday Favorites I have to follow up and tell you I picked The Nightingale back up after abandoning it a few months ago. The first few chapters were really slow and very similar to other WWII fiction novels I’d read. I should have given it a few more pages though because I was completely hooked after cracking it back open during my flight home from Utah last weekend. Let’s just say there’s a reason the book has a 5 star review from over 20,000 reviewers on Amazon, and I echo their sentiments. Just so sad it’s over – the worst part of reading a good book is knowing it has to end!
At any rate, wherever you are and whatever you do have a wonderful weekend and in the meantime please enjoy my favorite finds from around the web and beyond in this week’s Friday Favorites!
Favorite woah: Samuel’s Salted Caramel Peanut Brownie Bombs. Someone hand me a napkin to wipe the drool off my keyboard. I MEAN! Gluten-free to boot!!
Favorite comfy: Express London Tee. I tried this tee on the other day and it was so comfortable that I bought it in every available stripe pattern – ha! No, seriously, I did. Non-clingy, soft, and comfortable. ??
Favorite dinner: Salsa Verde Chicken Enchilada Casserole. My salsa verde craving is still raging and this looks like the perfect excise to buy a few more bottles!
Favorite funny: 35 Funny Parenting Tweets. #5 got me like ??? They just get funnier the more you read them!
Favorite snack. Recently I created this mini snack platter featuring different crackers, meats, fruits, nuts, and The Laughing Cow cheese wedges as a fun option for wine or girls night. Easy and everyone can eat what they like. (Psst! Gedney pickles are gluten-free and I eat their baby dills like a crazy person.)
Favorite decor: Funny Kitchen Burlap Prints. These kitchen prints are cracking me up! The burlap background is super cool and unique, and a lot of the phrases are new to me, which I’m definitely appreciating. So punny. (See what I did there?)
Favorite sip: Strawberry Ginger Fizz. Another great way to use up the bounty of strawberries currently residing in my fridge – wohoo! This cocktail looks AWESOME and calls for zero hard to find or expensive ingredients. Big pitcher + my back porch = ASAP. Or however that makes sense.
Favorite place: Lynn Canyon Park Waterslide. Forget the waterpark – I’m totally down for a ride on this natural waterslide in Vancouver’s Lynn Canyon Park. Would you do it? Funny that I can’t find any information on it on the park’s official website…I’m guessing the trip down is not exactly encouraged!
Favorite spoonful: Easy Chorizo Corn Chowder. I’m always looking for an excuse to sizzle up some chorizo and this easy, creamy corn chowder is a good one. Can’t wait to try. Soup season extends well into spring in my opinion.
Favorite sweet: Strawberry Lemonade Donuts. So easy, so summery…sign. me. UP!
Have a great weekend!
I had the EXACT SAME experience with The Nightingale, started it…. snooze! Forgot about it, picked it up again while on vacay and sobbed during the last 30 pages! Now I have been hoping someone will make it into a movie because I keep thinking that Jennifer Lawrence would be perfect as Isabelle! Anywho, love your recipes, thanks for keeping ’em fresh!
Ahh you’re so right – she’d be amazing in that role!!
The “Sweet Dreams are Made of Cheese” one made me literally lol (while sitting in Starbucks, which made strangers give me a weird look haha). Thanks for that! :)
I live right near Lynn Canyon in Vancouver. Beautiful area for sights and outdoors. However, people die jumping into the pool EVERY year. A young teenage boy just died a couple weeks ago… So it is definitely not a safe place to go near the water.
I saw k Hanna in Pasadena a
Couple weekends ago at a conference and I have read two book incliuding the Nightengale since! Could not, would not put it down! Wonderful!
I really enjoyed this week’s post from beginning to end! Nice variety & all looked good. Thanks! Leslie
I love your blog! I especially like your vegetarian dishes. I am a high school librarian and I appreciate that you read and share good “reads” with your readers. I must point out that a novel is the opposite of non-fiction. I believe what you were referencing in this post would be historical fiction. Picky, picky … I know!
Oh my gosh, so embarrassing, yes I meant FICTION! Thanks for pointing that out!
I must be an idiot because I read this a few times. Isnt the opposite on non-fiction fiction? And so the book is historical fiction? Cant either fiction or non-fiction be a novel? Thank you! :-)
Kristin corrected the phrase to “fiction novel” (in the original post it was “non-fiction novel”). Non-fiction is material that is factual. If you read a novel (fiction) and it includes factual/historical material, it is referred to as “historical fiction.” I LOVE Kristin and this blog and hate that I am coming across as a jerk to her.
Oh my word, you are not coming across as a jerk at all, Kathy! Truly, I appreciate you letting me know!! :)
Thanks, Kristin! :)
As a Vancouverite just had to mention that a ton of search and rescue resources are used to save people injured from cliff jumping and going down the ‘waterslide’ at Lynn Canyon…and while it’s very popular sadly someone usually ends up dying there almost every summer……but the rest of the park is beautiful :)
Hi Kristin,
I am from Vancouver, and the park is in North Van a suburb of Van. The park is lovely but the slide is not an official thing, there is a natural pool called 30 foot and the slide is there, it has a 30 foot drop at the end. It is a great place to hike, and swim but I wouldn’t recommend jumping off the rocks or doing the slide as many people die there each year (sorry to be a downer). Beautiful park though and Vancouver is a great place to visit as a foodie you would love it.
Love your blog,
Kristy
Hey Kristy! I live in Vancouver, and was just going to write a similar comment!
That cocktail and that soup will probably make it on my weekend menu. Yum!
