Happy Friday, everyone – can I get a hip hip hooray? I really and truly mean it when I say, WE FINALLY MADE IT! I swear every day since Tuesday has felt like Friday!
Regardless, we were thrilled to finally have above-freezing temperatures this week which meant my little snowman and I were able to get out and go for a walk in the fresh air. 40+ degrees is in the forecast this weekend which means more outdoor time is hopefully in our future – yes!
Sorry to be the stereotypical Midwesterner talking about the weather, but cabin fever is a real thing…is it spring yet? ;)
Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? What do you and your family like to do when it’s cold outside but the family’s going crazy inside? We need some ideas!
In the meantime wherever you are and whatever you do have a wonderful weekend and please enjoy my favorite finds from around the web and beyond in this week’s Friday Favorites!
Favorite bite: The Best Hot Dog You Will Ever Eat. The boys have gotten a hot dog the last few times we’ve been to Costco and it’s been absolute torture smelling them from afar (Costco has THE best hot dogs, in case you didn’t know!) Something tells me The Best Hot Dog You Will Ever Eat (sans bun) will take away some of the sting. Drooling!!
Favorite footwear: Berit Wedge Sandal. Aren’t these wedges gorgeous? They’d be perfect for a warm weather spring trip. I don’t always wear shoes higher than flats, but when I do, they’re wedges. #themostinterestingfootwearintheworld
Favorite trip: Bahia Honda State Park. Speaking of warm weather trips, I am currently obsessed with revisiting the Florida Keys (The Beach Boys may or may not have been blasting so loud while I was cooking dinner the other night that I didn’t hear Ben come in and was, well, horribly embarrassed,) and especially seeing Bahia Honda State Park, pictured below. Have you ever been? Looks like Heaven on earth!
Favorite snack. Aaaand just in case that island vacation happens a little later rather than sooner, I can eat like I’m somewhere tropical with my latest snack creation for The Laughing Cow! Crunchy, gluten-free bagel bites smeared with The Laughing Cow Creamy White Cheddar then topped with a sweet and spicy pineapple relish made with fresh pineapple, jalapeno, cilantro, and lime juice can take me anywhere but…here…if only in my mind. Pass the cheese and sunscreen (plus some rum!)
Favorite tip: How to Clean a Greasy Hood Range Filter. So I didn’t find out that you could wash greasy hood range filters until after I spent $40 buying new ones. D’oh! While it’s pretty (ok, really,) gross, hood range filters are easy to clean of disgusting grease and grime – you should try it!
Favorite fresh: Ahi Wonton Nachos with Mango Salsa and Wasabi Mayo. I fell in love with this recipe the minute I saw this bright and mouthwatering photo. I am desperate for a taste!
Favorite project: Creating Dining Room Storage with Floating Shelves. These floating shelves are absolutely gorgeous and would be perfect to hang above a long buffet to store glassware and, well, everything you see here. Beautiful and functional.
Favorite fresh: Grapefruit and Avocado Salad. Dairy free Caprese Salad with a twist? Gorgeous and refreshing – can’t wait to give it a try, especially because both grapefruit and avocados are so tasty right now.
Favorite fashion: Kate Spade One in a Million Initial Pendant. This necklace is similar to the pink Kate Spade pendant necklace I wear almost everyday, but I LOVE the simple stamped initial! I’m not a huge jewelry girl (I wear the same pair of earrings and aforementioned pink pendant almost everyday,) but this would quickly become a wardrobe staple.
Favorite slider: Green Chili Chicken Sliders. Perfect for the Super Bowl, no? Great combination of flavors.
Favorite mood: Flameless Candle Set. My parents got me a set of these candles for Christmas and I immediately placed them on our living room built ins, amongst a few others I already had, and set the timer so they come on at 4:30pm everyday. Ben feels like he’s living in an 1875 Victorian mansion and I…feel like I’m living in an 1875 Victorian mansion. Mission accomplished!
Favorite dinner: 30 Minute Sheet Pan Potatoes and Chicken Sausage. One pan + potatoes + chicken sausage? I officially call dibs on clean up duty the day we make this for dinner! (See what I did there? Because it’d be so easy? I…nevermind.)
Favorite craft: Homemade Flubber. FLUUUUBBBER! Too much fun! Amazon prime should be delivering the materials to make a batch literally any minute. Can’t wait – little man’s going to love it.
Favorite how-to: How To Make Paneer Cheese in 30 Minutes. I’ve been craving Saag Paneer something fierce lately and had never thought to make my own cheese for it. Looks easy enough!
Favorite chop. Maybe it’s the anticipation of spring cleaning and starting fresh, but I’ve decided to chop my hair – whack! Nothing drastic (I’m on a legit 20 year cycle of growing it out then chopping it into a bob over, and over, and over again,) rather this medium-length cut with layers has left me with heart eyes. Do you dig it?

Oh my gosh this looks so good! I am over here drooling over this dish right now. I am all over this. I can’t even stop starring !!

Your Paneer recipe was superb, my family loved it. Kids finally enjoying some spinach.
I camped at Bahia Honda State Park in May, and it was GORGEOUS. We actually rented camping equipment through Airbnb from someone in Miami and drove a rental car down through the keys – great if you’re flying in and you don’t want to haul your gear down. We were able to camp right on the beach. We also wish we would have had time to take the boat from Key West to Dry Tortugas National Park – SO isolated and looks beautiful!
Okay so those pineapple Laughing Cow bites look amazing!! And as for the hair I say TOTALLY GO FOR IT!! that would look super cute on you. Thanks for the shout out on my hot dogs yo! :)
Living in Key West, Bahia Honda is “right up the road” a beautiful place we do not visit enough. Hopefully you’ll get to visit soon!
Love your Friday Favorites! Especially love this one because of your mention of Bahia Honda State Park. Back in the 70’s my girlfriends and I would drive 27 hours from Michigan State University to camp out at Bahia Honda for Spring Break. We did this for 3 years. Best times! This year my husband and I had a wedding to attend in Miami. I twisted his arm to leave early and drive from Miami to Key West, then back to Miami for the wedding. We made a stop at Sunshine Key and viewed the old bridge (pictured in your photo). That was the only bridge back in the 70s, replaced now with a newer structure. It was a great trip!
Not sure when it happened, but seems there was a tweak to the home page design and just wanted you to know I LOVE IT. While I love searching recipes, etc. it really is your blog that keeps me visiting regularly. Also, I always adore Friday Favorites — they’ve never gotten old for me! Happy weekend to you and your family.
Thank you! We’re testing something a little new, so if things go well it will be the permanent new homepage. Stay tuned, and thanks for the feedback! ;)
Love that hair color and cut. I’ve been tempted to chop mine!
Stay warm this weekend!
Avocado and grapefruit is one of my favorite combinations! yum!!!
Those ahi wonton nachos tho! I must try that. It looks so delicious! I live in Phoenix and its been a chilly 75. Supposed to be in the 50’s this weekend and rainy. I can’t even begin to image snow and all the crazy Midwest weather!
After the blizzard and being stuck in the house for 4 1/2 days I was excited to get back to work. How’s that for cabin fever?
I adore those floating shelves but would be afraid to put anything breakable on them because cats. Grapefruit and avocado are definitely going on my shopping list though!
For restless kiddos who are stuck inside you should head to gonoodle.com! We project their free movement/brain breaks for students at my school (the kids love the crazy Koo Koo Roo guys singing PopSeeKo, Roller Coaster and Cat Party). I use it at home too- my toddler loves Zumba Kids and Koo Koo Roo, while my kindergartener enjoys learning to do track and field events in our living room (running and jumping hurdles in place- not on the couch!).
