Happy Friday, y’all!
If you’re seeing this, than you’re visiting IGE.com on her new server home on the Interwebs! We are slowly but surely working a few kinks out, and it might take up to 72 hours to start seeing the site correctly (and this post, unfortunately!) but after that if you continue to notice anything funky and find a moment, shoot me an email at IowaGirlEats@gmail.com.
I tell ya’, 90% of the time you guys are the ones that alert me to anything that has gone awry with the site and I appreciate that so much. You are the best!
At any rate, the snow finally stopped this afternoon but not before leaving 5+ inches of powder in its wake. It looks more like Christmas around here than springtime! Temps should be back up into the 70s by early next week, but until then I’ll break out my boots and hot chocolate one more time…and/or start planning my move to Mexico.
Nothing on the agenda this weekend except attending our first baby class on Saturday. All I can say is, things are getting real!! Then it’s off to find a suitable glider/rocker. Ben and I are learning that we have different definitions of what “comfortable” is, so this should be fun. ; )
Whatever you’re up to this weekend, I hope you make it a good one, and in the meantime, please enjoy my favorite finds from around the web and beyond in this week’s Friday Favorites!
Click on the light blue links to be taken to the original source.
Favorite treat: Krispie Treat Milkshake. Say whaaaa?! Hit me with that marshmallow fluff-infused shake!
Favorite style. I love this soothing, springy color combo of white, light blue, and yellow, with bright accent pieces. Modern yet cozy.
Favorite fresh: Strawberry Spinach Salad with Poppyseed Dressing. How fresh and fabulous does this look? I’ve been obsessed (like on another level obsessed) with both avocados and strawberries lately, so this is looking particularly fab.
Favorite cause: YESS Duck Derby. It’s that time of year again!! Ben’s team at work is less than 300 ducks away from reaching their goal of selling 1,500 ducks as part of the YESS (youth emergency services & shelter) Duck Derby this Saturday. YESS provides emergency shelter, crisis care, and counseling for children and families in Iowa, and the duck derby is their annual fundraising event where they release bazillions (ok thousands) of rubber ducks into a nearby pond, and race them to a finish line. If your duck is one of the first to finish, you win prizes! If you are able, we’d love for you to adopt a duck, and help a child! (That’s him selling ducks last year – aww.) ;) Click here to donate under his team >
Favorite fashion: Embroidered Flowers Denim Dress. Love this hippy/hip dress. So cute, right?
Favorite sweet: Layer Strawberry Cake with Creamy Vanilla Frosting. Yummy, sweet, and fresh. The perfect spring cake.
Favorite furball: Sebastian the French Bulldog. What a stud!
Favorite funny: Baby Mugging. I don’t know why I think the art of strategically placing a mug in front of your camera lens to make it look like your child is sitting in it is so funny, but I just laughed and laughed when I found this slideshow.
Favorite dip: Cajun Shrimp Guacamole. I have made Lazy Girl’s Guacamole no less than 3 times this week (I know) which I love for it’s pureness, but this version looks absolutely irresistible with spicy, buttery, Cajun Shrimp perched on top.
Favorite find: Roll Up Chalkboard Blackboard. Kind of a mix between an old-school roll up map and chalkboard. Would look equally as cute in the kitchen for a weekly menu or reminder board, as it would in a child’s room.
Favorite lick: Cannoli Ice Cream with Pistachios and Dark Chocolate. Oooo I would love a lick of this creamy, custardy ice cream. Ben and I had some cannoli for dessert out at a restaurant a few weeks ago and they were just divine. Totally took us back to Italy. (Ok, Italy’s were better.)
Favorite reminder: Have Fun! (Seriously). Teehee. Too fab.
Favorite sip: Fresh Margaritas. In case you didn’t click over from the link I included in this week’s Margarita Chicken post, I am simply drooling over the simplicity and deliciousness of these fresh Margaritas.
Favorite fitness: Heart Pumping Yoga Sequence. My back has been feeling so shrinky and tight lately from not being able to twist and stretch like I used to. This sequence looks really opening and awesome.
Favorite bite: White Chocolate Covered Strawberries with Basil Sugar. What’d I tell ya’ – can’t get enough strawberries! These babies, rolled in white chocolate then sprinkled with basil-infused sugar, look blissful. So cute for a summer party, shower or get together.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Have you ever been to the Korner Kone in Dallas Center? They have their own version of a DQ Blizzard & one of their flavors is a Scotcharoo & I believe also a Rice Krispie Treat!

Whoa, I love the look of that guacamole….but I think I love the idea of strawberries dipped in chocolate and basil sugar even more! What great finds.

We have a Little Castle glider in Charcoal linen. We love it because not only is it comfortable for both of us but it looks great. So great that once we are through with it in our daughter’s room we will probably move it into our family room!

Those yoga poses… it’s what we do in the yoga classes I attend… ALL THE TIME!! It’s the Sun Salutation sequence… and boy, does it really get your heart pumping.
Seriously, I pretty much dread when they say ‘chaturanga’ (which is the high push up to low push up).
Nina @ too hottie for that body 05.04.2013
I’m sitting in urgent care with my butt hanging out of a paper gown due to a back injury. If only I could get a slice of that strawberry cake and do those yoga moves. Then all would be good with the world again :)
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl 05.04.2013
Should we be expecting some baby mug pics with your baby?!? ;) Haha, too cute!!

I understand the glider dilemma well. I wanted to get one that looked like an arm chair from Pottery Barn Kids but it was PRICEY!!! And I couldn’t find anything I liked that was similar. At the same time I was looking for a comfortable arm chair for my living room as well so we’d have extra seating for guests. We ended up at LazyBoy. My husband got a recliner that rocks and glides (I hate it but it works for now) for my daughters room and I got a recliner that doesn’t actually look like a recliner for my living room. It was an ok decision, but man… I wish I had the money to get that PBK’s glider b/c it was so pretty and girly and would have fit in so well.

My baby girl just turned one and while I LOVE our glider (the Carter from Room & Board – pricey but so, so comfy), we opted not to get the matching ottoman at the time and I’ve always regretted it! There will definitely be late nights and early mornings where all you want is to put your feet up and lay your head back while snuggling your precious babe. Have fun!

My husband and I had a difficult time finding a rocker/glider in the Des Moines area that we both liked. We ended up purchasing ours from Amish Haus in Urbandale. So glad we looked outside the typical baby stores as we are both happy with the purchase. Our little girl is 15 months.

That milkshake is killer, Ali’s salad is my new favorite, Bev’s photos of Gaby’s cajun shrimp and Guacamole look delicious and that ice cream looks so creamy and delicious!!
Love all the favorite this week and so far so good with switching of servers!

In case you’re ever craving ice cream when you’re in cedar falls, 4 queens has a delicious rice Krispy treat snowstorm! It also has peanut butter and tastes just like a scotcheroo! This post reminded me of it and now I just want to go back for 4 queens!

I always look forward to your Friday favorites – I usually pin no less than three items :-) The Rice Krispie Treat Milkshake made my day
