Happy Friday, everyone, I hope you had a wonderful week!
If you’re anything like me then you’re in complete shock that Christmas in less than a week away. It’s not only hard to believe but sad, too – I can’t believe the holiday season is coming to a close! Weren’t we just handing out fun-size Snickers a week ago?
I have a few more people to shop for then am left with the dreaded task of wrapping all the gifts. I used to be a master present wrapper – I remember my Dad asking me to wrap my Mom’s presents when I was little because well, Dads. Now I’m all thumbs. I swear the wrapping paper has shrunk, or something. Gift bags it is!
Anywho, I’ll probably get started on that this weekend, then who knows. A trip to the mall, perhaps brunch? The world is our freezing oyster!
Well wherever you are and whatever you do have a wonderful weekend and in the meantime please enjoy my favorite finds from around the web and beyond in this week’s Friday Favorites! (And in case you’re still in need of some last minute gift ideas, don’t forget to check out my 2014 Gift Guide for Foodies!)

Favorite funny: Mommy’s Advent Calendar. Why should the kids have all the fun this holiday season? Seriously laughing out loud at this tongue in cheek, adults only advent calendar project.
Favorite devour: Sun Dried Tomato and Mushroom Pasta in Garlic and Basil Sauce. HO-ho-holy cow! What a decadent looking plate of goodness. Can’t wait to fetch me a package of gluten-free linguini to give this bad boy a taste.
Favorite find: French Enameled Lockets. I am enamored (see what I kind of did there) with these enameled lockets. The chain is loooong, the enamel is rich and glossy, and I’d probably show anyone and everyone the picture of Lincoln I’d undoubtedly put inside!
Favorite wakeup: Six Ingredient Sausage and Potato Pie. You can never have enough savory breakfast recipes, in my opinion! This 6 ingredient recipe looks so satisfying.
Favorite handmade: Peppermint Sugar Scrub. If you want to make some homemade gifts for your girlfriends this year, this Peppermint Sugar Scrub looks yummy enough to eat and so easy.
Favorite makeover: Spray Paint Your Christmas Lights. LOOOOOVE this idea for decorating a mantel or table! How fab and clever!
Favorite comfort: Lobster Etouffee. Ben and I ate gobs of etouffee in NOLA several years ago and Heidi’s version looks totally spot on. Can’t wait to try it!
Favorite DIY: Embroidery Hoop Orbs. I gasped out loud when I found this project! I love those iron-esque orbs they sell at home stores but I don’t want to shell out $40+ for something that doesn’t do anything, know what I mean? This copycat project using embroidery hoops is so, so smart.
Favorite fun: Monogram Marshmallows. How fun for the kiddos, or guests, right?
Favorite fun: Holiday Home Tour. I got a text from my friend Laura a few weeks ago saying please tell me you follow thealisonshow on Instagram? I immediately clicked over and was instantly happy. This girl’s solo dance parties pretty much make my day whenever I see them, and I loved the holiday home tour she recently posted on her blog. So fun and full of life!
Favorite hair. I’m too embarrassed to tell you how long it’s been since I got a haircut. Like, no, seriously, I won’t. That said I am booking my appointment TODAY to get this long bob. LOVE IT!
Favorite decor: House Tour Living Room Progress. I’m still not sold on my entryway table decor as it’s up against a huge wall that goes up to a vaulted ceiling and what I have there now is just not cutting it in terms of filling up the space. These layered, over-sized frames would do the job perfectly. Drat that they are from IKEA and double drat I didn’t find this 6 weeks earlier when I was there in Minneapolis!
Favorite sip: Christmas Coffee Cocktail. Break out the schnapps, Mom, this is totally happening on Christmas day.
Favorite reminder: 13 Can’t Go Wrong Wine + Cheese Pairings. Love these simple tips for pairing wine with cheese. Thought it would come in handy sometime in the next couple of weeks!
Favorite side: Smoky Creamed Kale. Holla at your girl, Smokey Creamed Kale. Nothin’ wrong with smoked paprika, kale, and cheese!
Favorite thing ever: Bourbon Fig Gorgonzola Stuffed Pork Tenderloin. Wow. Just. WOW. It is my mission in life to make this thing happen on Christmas or New Year’s Eve. Bourbon-soaked figs…Jessica just gets me.

Everything looks great :D, am not a big fan of pasta but am willing to try gluten-free pasta with mushrums and garlic. That picture is already making me hungry :D

Hi Kristin! I don’t know the exact name of those IKEA frames, but you might want to check their website to see if they’re available online. We live in upstate New York, where the nearest IKEA is about four hours away. Last week, I ordered a nightstand, a duvet, and a few Ribba frames (the ones with the glass). All delivered well-packed and in one piece!
Kristin 12.19.2014
Ooo – great idea – I’ll do that. Thanks for the tip, Julie!
Kristin 12.19.2014
Update – I just checked and they have them available to order online! Thanks again!
Julie 12.20.2014
Woo hoo! Now if only we could get IKEA to offer deals on shipping. :)
Lacey Jones 12.19.2014

Christina @ The Beautiful Balance 12.19.2014
LOVE the spray painted xmas lights, such a good idea! Better idea is the advent calendar…I’m not a mom and I would still appreciate that haha!
Alaina 12.19.2014
I just realized I am not getting your facebook posts in my newsfeed anymore! What happened?!
Kristin 12.19.2014
Facebook strikes again! They have some funky algorithms that decide what posts you should see (instead of you deciding for yourself!) Anyway, head to my page then click the “Follow” button next to the “Liked” button. That should put my posts back in your newsfeed. Let me know if that works! :) https://www.facebook.com/IowaGirlEatsOfficialPage

Emily @ Life on Food 12.19.2014
I am all about that sugar scrub. The cold weather has me all itchy!
Carrie 12.19.2014
Hi, just wanted to let you know that I’ve used wedeliveromaha.com service before. They take your IKEA orders, drive to Minneapolis in a truck, go shopping and then deliver it to your home. They will delver to Des Moines area. I used them to get some bookcases for the office last year and it worked like a charm. They were great to work with. I randomly found them on Craigslist and decided to try it. I desperately wanted those bookcases and was all over the place trying to figure out how to get them down here.
Kristin 12.19.2014
Awesome, I’ll definitely check them out. Thanks for the heads up! :)
