Add a dash of easy, homemade Seasoned Salt to just about anything to give it a boost of savory flavor. No thickeners or sugar!

“Vastly superior to store-bought, and it’s so easy to make!”
File my homemade Seasoned Salt recipe under the “things you didn’t know you needed until you had them” category.
Other contenders include electrolyte powder (where has this been all my life?), plant support sticks (no more droopy plants!), and black marker packs (game changer for my black marker-obsessed little artists).
This 4-ingredient recipe can be made in less than a minute using everyday ingredients, and adds a boost of flavor to any savory dish. I keep a spice shaker filled with it next to my cooking oils and most-used seasonings to shake right into the pot or pan.

Healthier Alternative to Lawry’s
A few years ago, when I was making my umpteenth batch of Chex Mix during the holidays, I realized we were out of Lawry’s so I looked up the ingredients online, snagged the individual seasonings from the spice cupboard, and mixed them all together.
Minus sugar, corn starch, and tricalcium phosphate – all key ingredients in Lawry’s blend, which I happened to be out of at the time.
(That’s a joke.)
The homemade seasoned salt turned out so well that I formulated a large batch recipe that I’m thrilled to share with you. It’s so good and easy to whip up!

4 Ingredients Needed
Like I said Lawry’s Seasoned Salt contains unnecessary (imo) ingredients including sugar, thickeners, and anti-caking agents. For my homemade seasoned salt recipe, all you’ll need is:
- Kosher salt
- Paprika
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
Each delicious on their own, but extraordinary once combined. This homemade seasoned salt adds tons of flavor to dishes without extra calories, fat, or effort, really. Mix up a batch then season away for days.
10 Ways to Use Gluten Free Seasoned Salt
While these 10 foods are complimented perfectly by homemade seasoned salt, there’s no limit to what you can add it to. But first, try it on…
- Hard boiled eggs – slice, season, eat.
- Meat – season chicken, pork, steak, salmon, or shrimp then grill or saute away.
- Guacamole – mash together ripe avocado, seasoned salt, and lime juice then devour.
- Vegetables – add a dash to vegetables before roasting with extra virgin olive oil.
- Salads – sprinkle seasoned salt on top of greens then dress with lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil.
- Popcorn – spritz with a little extra virgin olive oil then sprinkle on seasoned salt. Crazy addicting.
- Burgers – season ground beef with the blend then add a dash of Worcestershire sauce and pepper.
- Sweet Potato Fries – a family favorite! Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over sliced sweet potatoes then toss with seasoned salt and roast for 15-25 minutes at 425.
- Soups – a dash or 20 added to Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup? DIVINE.
- Mushrooms – saute sliced mushrooms in olive oil until the liquid has evaporated then season and continue to cook until golden brown.

How to Make Homemade Seasoned Salt
This seasoned salt recipe is so self-explanatory that I can’t believe I’m showing you step-by-step photos, but here we are!

To a small bowl add kosher salt, paprika (regular, not smoked), garlic powder, and onion powder.

Then, stir it up!

Transfer the seasoned salt into a bowl or shaker then start adding a boost of flavor to everything you cook!
Recipe Tip
Use Homemade Seasoned Salt in the same quantity you would regular salt, since the majority of the seasoning is salt.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 5 Tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 Tablespoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl then stir with a fork or whisk.
- Store in an airtight container or shaker.
Notes
- Use seasoned salt as heavy handed or sparingly as you would regular salt — remember the majority is still salt, just with a little extra oomph!

I love this, and use it all the time!
I haven’t made it yet but love the fact that I can sub No-Salt to make it salt free for those of us who are watching our sodium. Thanks! m.
Thank you so much. Sounds like it does give things that little extra that is lacking. I appreciate this. Barb
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this seasoned salt. I keep it in my pantry at all times for all things.
I have all this on hand – I’m making it tomorrow! And I was thinking of making carrot fries this week – I’ll try this seasoning on it (since they are similar to sweet potato fries).
FYI – we like a lot of Mexican inspired dishes and so a while ago I made up a mix with rqual parts onion powder, garlic powder, and cumin. Use it all the time :-) Add salt and pepper as needed…
I’m so trying this! I just saw recently that Lawry’s has sugar in it, which explains why it’s so addictive ;) I’ll replace it with this!
Oh my gosh, right?? I hope you love it, Karen!
This is why I am so excited for this! My DH loves lawry’s but all I taste is sugar (second ingredient and same with ketchup). I’m actually perfectly ok with eating sugar, but only in my cookies, cakes, pies, candy…why is it in things like pasta sauce, tomatoes are sweet already!
Is it possible to mix the himalayan and kosher salts, or use one or the other?
For sure – totally fine to mix!
New to the gluten free world. Are all salts, paprikas, garlic and onion powders “gluten free”?
Hi Laurie! If they’re not blended they should be, but you’ll want to check labels and/or websites to be 100% sure. I use Tone’s spices, which are gluten-free.
What type of salt did you use? Kosher, sea i.e.
Just regular kosher salt.
Thanks for this. I’ve been wanting a salt-free version of Lawry’ s for years (don’t know why I didn’t just look at the ingredients like you did), and now I can make my own. Can’t wait to try this on oven fries and popcorn.
Bump up the amount of paprika, add in a tablespoon cumin and a tsp. of red pepper or cayenne and you will have the seasoning to potato oles from taco johns
Thanks for the TJ’s hack!
I can’t wait to try this! Our house is hooked on a different brand of seasoned salt that has a similar weird ingredient in it to prevent clumping that I’d rather it not have.
We LOVE a light sprinkle of seasoned salt on buttered toast. If you haven’t tried that before, I hope you do!
I feel like unless I work for it.. It’s hard to see what you post all week. It is click after click. I miss the few recipes of the week on one page. It’s extra work for the customer which actually causes me to stop clicking.
