What’s better than watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in your favorite sweater, (feels like a blanket!) mimosa in hand and family by your side?
Nada! I don’t ever want this day to end!
Speaking of family…in case you had any doubt that the Breakfast Casserole I made this morning wasn’t seriously delish, guess who we found literally licking the pan I brought it in?!
Dad – BUSTED! :D HA! The great thing about that casserole too is that you can assemble it the night before then bake it in the morning. No fuss. And clearly, hoard-it-from-your-family good. ;)
After the parade we broke to play Scrabble (my Dad was losing, hence the wahh face!) It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving, or any holiday in my family’s household for that matter, without a rousing board game!
In a stroke of luck, I came in second place…
Which was especially pleasing to me since I was up against a father with an English degree, a brother with a Masters of Divinity, and picked literally ALL THE VOWELS IN THE ENTIRE GAME! I think I got every single “I” that was played!
My Dad was less than thrilled that he lost by almost 100 points…
So he did was he does best – played Grandpa!
Finn, my brother’s son, is on fire today – possibly being the cutest he’s ever been. Lots of “Hiiii’s!” and “Uh-oh’s!!!” :)
He even treated us to a piano concert!
That boy can really play! ;)
Soon enough, we all heard the call…
Turkey time!
What a gorgeous bird! Seriously – THE juiciest turkey my Mom has ever roasted!
We set the table.
My Mom put out a simple centerpiece with lit candles, pumpkins and squash,
and put out some munchies.
Grandma’s Holiday Salad,
olives,
and pickles.
We all snagged our plates and headed into the kitchen to grab the good stuff!
Wahbam!!!!!!
Homemade, savory stuffing,
roasted green beans with bacon & onions,
garlic mashed potatoes (TO. DIE.)
and the aforementioned turkey and cranberry-orange sauce from Trader Joe’s.
Polished off with my Mom’s world-famous, sweet potato-stuffed, marshmallow-topped baked apples!
I mean!!!
I think I say this every year – but seriously this might have been the best Thanksgiving ever. My Mom never ceases to amaze us!!!
We finished lunch with a little Facetime with my little brother in Denver. Dads + iPhones + Facetime = pure hilariousness. Please take my word on that… ;)
Off to roll myself to the couch. It’s nap time! :)
See ya!

What was your favorite dish at Thanksgiving this year?
Mine’s tied between the stuffed apples, mashed potatoes and Grandma’s Holiday salad. I can’t pick just one! ;)

[…] know there was a heated game of Scrabble too, in which I once again managed to pull every single "i" played. […]

My Mom’s sweet potatoes! Fresh sweet potatoes with butter, maple syrup, and salt. Off course you can’t have sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving without the marshmallows! I like the burnt ones the best. I was eating it straight out of the casserole dish at the end of the night! DOH!

what exactly is grandmas holiday salad?
Iowa Girl Eats 11.28.2010
omg I seriously need to post the recipe ASAP. It’s like cool whip/pineapple custard/madness with banana, pineapple, marshmallows and grapes. Pretty much the greatest thing ever!

Your Thanksgiving feast looks fabulous – and it looks like a lot of fun! (I love Scrabble!)
My favorite this year, as always was the stuffing!

Random question, what kind of camera do you have?
girliefriend 11.26.2010
Is that mac and cheese or cheesy potatoes I see? Yum! Looks like you had a great day. Happy Thanksgiving! Now that you’ve conquered yeast, did you bake the rolls from scratch or did you end up buying them?

Busted…I had four mimosa drinks today. Oops?
We had a delicious pie for dessert that I loved. It was pumpkin and ginger bread with a “lush” whipped cream. It was amazing!
Happy Thanksgiving!

That was a seriously fun day! Great pics … And for what it’s worth, you gave me a run for my money in Scrabble!

The stuffing was pretty amazing, but also, my aunt made a pumpkin cheesecake with a ginger snap crust…to die for!

Stuffing! I love it so much.

My favorite dish hands down was the turkey my husband brined hands down. We were at my hubby’s grandma’s this year. While everything was good, it wasn’t MY grandma’s. I missed her stuffing like whoa!

Sounds like a perfect Thanksgiving. Glad the casserole was a hit! I knew it would be.
My favorite dish has to be the Sweet Potato Casserole. I tried to keep it at one serving but I just couldn’t, I had to go back for seconds!
Machelle 11.25.2010
My favorite is always the mashed taters & gravy! I could eat a big heap of that everyday of my life!!
Amanda (Eating Up) 11.25.2010
My family’s favorite dish was definitely the roasted root vegetables with pesto! Everyone kept going back for more veggies! It was amazing!
