You guys, we totally caved!
It was just too cold in our house last night, so we bit the bullet and turned the thermostat back up to 71. We are wimps, I know, but decided that it was worth the extra $20-$30/month to be cozy and be able to feel our fingertips inside the house.
What can we say, we like the heat! 8)
We like Greek Yogurt Parfaits for breakfast, too!
I used Chobani Pomegranate Greek Yogurt as my base,
14g of protein!
Mixed in 1/2 Tablespoon of chia seeds to make the thick Greek yogurt even thicker, topped with some fresh pineapple and kiwi,
then added some Wild Berry Trail Mix on top!
This mix is super – it’s got whole almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries and dried blueberries, among other things. I heart dried blueberries – they’re so cute, and have such a unique chew. Have you ever tried dried blueberries? They cost an arm and a leg, so I’m glad they were included in this mix!
Between the pomegranate yogurt, kiwi and pineapple – this was TANG-Y!
But in a good way.
Extremely fresh, tropical and just what I need to face another day with 6 feet of snow on the ground.
I am totally looking forward to lunch – Tuna Salad & Yogurt (not together!)
Last week I saw a recipe for Tuna Salad on Lauren’s blog and, it looked so simple yet flavorful, I knew I had to recreate it. In the mix:
- 1 can tuna packed in water, drained
- 1/2 container plain Greek yogurt
- Carrots
- Pickle
- Capers
- Lemon
- Dijon mustard
- Salt & pepper
Add everything to taste and mix. Print this recipe!
I snuck a couple spoonfuls as I was packing this up for today’s lunch – WOW – it is SO delish! Fresh, clean and tangy – and NO mayo. The perfect tuna salad!
Packed to go over some spinach and dried cranberries. Hmmm, it appears that just as I can’t to go a day without almonds or almond butter, I can’t seem to go a day without dried cranberries. They just add so much flavor to anything and everything!
Rounding out lunch is a new flavor (to me) of AE fat-free yogurt – Orange Pomegranate. Yurm! I’ve had a couple people ask me about this brand of yogurt. It’s made locally so I’m not sure how far out of the Midwest it’s sold. Anyone?
So I’ve been thinking a lot about weddings lately. Ben and I’s 2 year wedding anniversary is coming up in just over a month (craaaaazy!) and I just found out that my Great Aunt & Uncle have the same anniversary as us (crazier!!) Tell me,
What’s your favorite part about weddings?
I love the vows. They’re so special and I love seeing two people say them to each other, for some reason! I also LOVE a good wedding reception, and of course, THE CAKE!!

Your parfait looks amazing! It looks fresh and summery, even if your thermostat is at 71.
Mine is set there, too.
Thank you for your kind works this past week, love.
Our thermostat is at 71 too! Here’s the thing that saved us the MOST money on our electric bill: closing vents of rooms that we don’t use as often! Bathroom doors stay open to let warm air from the hallways in, the guest bedroom vent is closed, as is the one in the kitchen since when we’re home, the kitchen is being used!
Your yogurt looks delicious, it combines pretty much all my favorite things…and I agree, dried blueberries are so good but the cost makes it hard to buy them on a regular basis.
I’m going to my cousins wedding this weekend and I’m most excited to be with my whole family all at once!! It should be a really good time! Congrats on your 2 year anniversary
It pays to be comfortable I guess!
I have only been to one wedding, but two receptions. I think I like the reception the best because you get to watch the two walk around talking to all their friends and family and they are just so happy!
Your yogurt looks incredible!! I love yogurt bowls like that with super fresh fruit. It sounds so refreshing. And that POM flavor is sooo good!!
I like wedding cake
Yummy parfaits! Pineapple makes everything sweeter. I LOVE weddings! I enjoy getting dressed up and getting my dance on
That parfait looks DELISH! I keep it super warm all year round, we have a small condo though so it’s not so bad. I can’t stand the cold!
Those kiwi’s look so good to me right now!
My favorite part of weddings is the reception and seeing the first dance
the tuna salad looks SO good!!
i love weddings too!! the details, the ceremony, the dresses, the reception, food, etc!! LOVE it all!!!
I was curious about AE. {We have it in KC too, but was wondering how far it really does go} Found this on their website. Could answer some questions for you!

And my favorite part of weddings is watching the bride walk down the isle and seeing the look on the groom’s face.
I’ve never even heard of that yogurt, but the flavor sure sounds great! And time does pass so fast! I can’t believe our 3 year wedding anniversary is coming up in a few months. My favorite part of weddings is when the bride walks down the aisle and just the look between her and the groom. I love weddings! Good thing THREE of my close friends are getting married this year.
What a great idea to use greek yogurt as a salad base! I can’t stand mayo, so I usually stay away from tuna salad, chicken salad, and egg salad. I might have to try them again!
You only live once; might as well be warm.
Great tuna salad idea!! Must try that

I couldn’t pick a favourite bit of weddings – I love it all! The whole concept makes me so happy (I’m a crier at weddings :p) – the dress, the cake, the food, the dancing, the fact that two people could love each other so much….I SO hope I get married one day!! I’d definetly be one of those people that renew their vows like, every year, just so I could keep holding a mini wedding again and again lol
Have a good day!
71 sounds nice and toasty! My favorite part of a wedding is when the bride walks down the aisle. Everyones eyes are on her and the groom always has a very sweet expression on his face.
You should try Bob’s Red Mill’s dried blueberries; they have such a great, Maine flavor to them
Girl, I am so happy my tuna inspired you! I love when I am able to trigger another fellow foodie with my eats. It makes me feel so good!
Hope you enjoy your lunch and your Monday!
I like when the bride and groom first see each other. You can feel the love and excitement. I also like the dancing part. Dancing at weddings with my close friends and family is SO fun.
I love making tuna or chicken salad with out mayo! Greek yogurt works perfectly. This recipe sounds really good!
Beautiful looking fruit and yogurt combo. At least you have a thermostat. I live overseas and we have one butane tank (no propan allowed here) connected to a portable heater and we roll it from room to room. I work from home so it mostly stays in my office. It puts off major heat, but if I have to leave the office it is freezing everywhere else. Somedays it is warmer outside. I agre it is worth the extra few bucks a month to stay comfortable.
I actually sat next to someone on the light rail this morning who was talking about AE yogurt and she said she’s only seen it in Iowa! It sounds delish though!
Comfort should win when it comes to home temperatures. I stayed with a friend in London for a week in December and nearly froze to death. There is no reason anyone should have to wear a winter jacket, mittens, scarf and hat in the house! I did like cuddling up with the water bottle though! Glad you’re cozy!
[...] friend and the wonderful time we had together in a freezing cold London apartment while reading this blog- [...]
My husband loves wedding cake so much, I order just the top of a wedding cake for his birthday – he loves it!
I’ll be celebrating 10 years this year – wow!
A & E – NOT sold in MN except in Hy-Vee and the only Hy-Vee I know of up here is in Albert Lea (just over the IA/MN border). Too bad, because AE’s cottage cheese rocks!
Weddings – my favorite part is the colors. When planning my wedding, I loved the process of choosing my colors and then making collages to take with me when talking to florists and such so that they would know what I had in mind. So, I loved seeing the colors come together throughout our day and look for that in other’s weddings as well. Probably not your most common response to that question, but I’m nerdy about design that way.
Kristin, I suggest that you try the lower thermostat next year. If you acclimate yourself to the temperatures from the start of the colder weather your body will handle it easier. We set ours at 66 from 5pm to 10:30 pm and 60 the rest of the time. We’ve done that for the past 6 or 7 years and it works fine. An extra hot shower in the morning is helpful!
Keep in mind that the last heating bill we all recieved was covering some VERY cold, very windy & blizzardy weather conditions. And I’m afraid it isn’t over over yet! YUK! I say crank it up & be comfy! I actually hate weddings. Well, maybe hate is a strong word. Dislike. It’s best to be a spectator…no ugly dress that makes your butt look twice as big as it really is…no crappy cheap dyed pumps that kill your feet. I have been to some very nice weddings ( my niece’s), & I’ve been to some really horrible ones! Like when my co-worker got married in the little church at Living History Farms & invited like 500 people! We were all lined up outside the overflowing church in the 90 plus degree weather…didn’t see or hear any of the wedding. Not a good time! Also attended 3 outdoor weddings in the cold rain & wind. Only one bride had the foresight to rent a building on the park grounds for just such an emergency. That one turned out real nice! Weddings…Bah Humbug!
we keep our house pretty cold too, but honestly the best results for us is having the thermostat set to go down at night while we sleep and kick back in rigt before we get up. we never notice since were all snuggled up and it saves us money!
I love tuna mixed with greek yogurt, I think I like it better than with mayo!
My favorite part of weddings is the dancing! Oh and also, I totally agree with you about the heat. I do not like to be cold in my house!
My thermostat is set to 72 and I live in Georgia! I get cold very easily.
I think because we have always had the thermostat at 68 it doesn’t feel as cold. You body was just in shock when it was used to the balmy temps.
I love the vows too! I especially love it when the couple adds their own touches to the traditional vows.
AE yogurt rocks my world. In Minnesota, there are also Hy-Vees in Owatonna, Austin, Rochester, and Faribault.
I am in Kansas and our gas bill was crazy too! We turned our heat down for a few days, but it got so cold again! It’s back up, there’s only so much sweatshirt-wearing you can take. We have AE here in KS too! I haven’t tried their yogurt in forever though – I will have to. We do use a lot of their products though.
Random question–where do you buy your Chobani yogurt? How much is it? I have been looking around, but have not had any luck thus far.
I just had tuna salad today…i’ll have to try this recipe next time.
That parfait looks delicious! I never think to add pineapple to my yogurt bowls in the morning – I’ll have to try it one of these days!
My favourite part of weddings … the ceremony. It tends to be the classiest part of the whole thing (sorry, but the chicken dance just isn’t my idea of a good time!).
