Friday Favorites

This might be the most surreal thing I have ever said, but today is the day our son is due!

It’s hard to express how I’m feeling right now – nervous, excited, scared, nervous, happy…NERVOUS. I honestly can’t believe this is really happening but, ready or not, parenthood, here we come!

For the past couple of months I’ve predicted that the little man will arrive late and, while the day is not over yet, I still feel he won’t be here for several more days. In the meantime I plan to stay busy to keep myself sane. It is the oddest feeling in the world knowing that our lives are about to change forever, just not knowing when, exactly. Like I said, it’s difficult to express how that feels.

IF anything happens this weekend (that’s a big if) I will check in next week to let you know how everything went, and introduce our son! I want to thank you all for the support you’ve shown over the past 20 weeks. Each thoughtful and encouraging comment along the way has made me even more excited to become a Mama to our sweet little boy. You guys are the best and I know you’ll be equally as supportive in the following weeks as we adjust to life with a newborn. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Talk to you soon…here we go!

Favorite dish: Avocado and Gouda BLT Corn Fritter Stacks with Chipotle Bourbon Dressing. I literally gasped out loud the first time I saw this photo and recipe. What a PERFECT summer dish!

Favorite DIY: DIY Headboard. How cute! I love how the blogger switched the look up from the original version from Lowe’s to give it a shabby/chic feel.

Favorite indulge: Oreo Peanut Butter. I can’t even begin to imagine the damage I’d do to a jar of this stuff. Insane.

Favorite fashion: Dirty Laundry Beka 2 Sandal. Gee, I wish I’d found these about 2 months ago! Adorable and comfy for my pregnant blimp feet.

Favorite lick: Cucumber Watermelon Popsicles. I am featuring these babies for my Mom, who is obsessed with all things homemade watermelon popsicles at the moment. Her freezer is full of ’em for the grand kids! Love this kicked up version with cooling cucumber and tangy lime.

Favorite fitness: Pyramid Bootcamp Workout. Ooo looks killer. Saving for when I’m in the clear for an intense and sweaty workout.

Favorite fresh: Heirloom Tomato Bacon Summer Salad. All the best summer produce on one big platter. Yummy.

Favorite find: Ceramic Soup Crock and Lid Set. Perfect for the fall, courtesy of Dot & Bo. Love my daily email from them!

Favorite party: Burrata with White Wine and Garlic Sauteed Tomatoes. Oh. YUM! This would be perfect to set out at the start of a party. So decadent and delish.

Favorite freeze: Strawberry Cheesecake Popsicles. I recently made the Oreo Pudding Pops I featured a few weeks ago on Friday Favorites, and they were AMAZING. I am loving this creamy popsicle combo.

Favorite create: Crate Book Shelves. Super cute idea for the boy’s room. Cheap wooden crates painted then cut in half and mounted to the wall. Easy to turn into toy storage, too!

Favorite woah: Biscoff Spread Gooey Butter Cake. OMG! Gooey lusciousness. I’ll take 10!

  14. Sarah 07.26.2013

Just wait until he actually arrives – it will be the greatest, most indescribable feeling of joy! And p.s., from one Mom to another, make sure to take a video at some point in the hospital when you are talking to him and welcoming him to the world. I have a video like that with my daughter and I cry with joy every time I watch it! Best Wishes from Wisconsin! :D

  15. That headboard is SUPER cute! I’ve been eyeing some DIY headboard ideas and after refinishing an old dresser, I’m even more excited to get going on my next DIY project!

  16. Jennie 07.26.2013

It’s my due date today too for a little boy!!! Getting up and coming into work was frustrating, but I have butterflies in my stomach that it’s going to happen soon. I’m thinking maybe this weekend sometime. THanks for the fun Friday faves and good luck with everything! I’ve been reading your blog for a couple years now :)

  17. Liz 07.26.2013

Congratulations on focusing past your due date! That is so hard to do because you always hope they come by then. I actually had my first daughter on her due date so it can happen. Your life will never be the same in such a great way. I always look forward to Friday Favorites. My daughter was just telling me she’d like a shabby chic headboard and the one in this week’s post looks perfect! By the way, my birthday’s Sunday……Good Luck and Happy Pushing!

  18. Good luck! It can be hard to watch the due date come and go but it seems like you have a pretty good attitude about it. It’s crazy to think you could wake up tomorrow morning feeling totally normal and have a baby in your arms a few short hours later!

  19. oh my gosh! Im so excited for you! I know that feeling so well…I get so impatient in the end when I don’t know exactly WHEN it will happen! Maybe this is TMI..but I ended up getting my membranes stripped to start moving things along naturally! Did it with both my boys & 12-24 hours later, voila! haha It helped my brain from going insane! Goodluck Momma! Its going to be amazing!

  20. Anne [A Squared] 07.26.2013

Ahh, that’s amazing! I’m wishing you and your family all the best today and throughout the weekend, and will be thinking of you! Once again, a job well done on this post; as I always say, the Friday Favorites post is always one I look forward to!

  23. Lisa in Fort Worth 07.26.2013

Praying that all goes well with the new arrival. I’m sure your Mom is nervous too. Tell her we are praying for you all and that little man will be here safe and sound soon! Wish I knew where we could send a little gift! The baby boy things right now are so stinking cute!!

  24. Lauri 07.26.2013

I nkow exactly the feeling you’re talking about!!! I was induced at 41 weeks with my son and those days from the due date on were bizarre…waiting!! The worst was the non stop calls/texts/etc. “Baby yet?” um, no – Don’t you think you would have heard if I had the baby??? Ha!!
We went out to dinner 2 nights before I was induced and the hostess asked when I was due and I said “UH, I was due last Monday!” SUCH an exciting time for you guys though – I love your blog and recipes and especially Friday favorites. Best of luck with everything!!! Enjoy these last days, hours, whatever until your baby joins you!

  25. I am so happy and excited for y’all! Enjoy these last few days or moments before baby!

  26. Stephany 07.26.2013

Good luck this weekend and enjoy every minute. As my best friend told me when she found out I was having a boy (that was 8 years ago…), “There is nothing like a son’s love for his mother” and it’s so true.

Enjoy every snuggle, giggle, hug, and smile. You are about to start the most difficult, wonderful, rewarding journey!

  27. Tieghan 07.26.2013

Oh my gosh, my excitement is building for you! I cannot wait to meet your little guy! I really am so excited for you both!!

Thank you so much for linking my BLT corn fritters!! So happy you like them!! Thanks again and good luck!!

  28. Lindsay 07.26.2013

My due date was the! Haha. So difficult to keep waiting after they’re due. Hopefully your son won’t keep you waiting for another 7 days like mine did. :) Keeping busy is wise. Good luck, and I can’t wait to “meet” baby boy!!!

  29. How exciting!! Congratulations and best wishes with welcoming your son into the world.

  30. Those crocks looks just like the ones I have stored in my basement that my parents had when they were young. Everything that goes around…comes around!

  31. Angie 07.26.2013

Cogratulations and I hope you have a healthy delivery and baby. It is so strange waiting for it all to happen. The beginning is so tough but my little one is 10 months and you forget all about it and just enjoy every minute.

  32. Kristin 07.26.2013

Good luck with your last few days as a prego! You will make a fabulous mother, what a lucky little guy :)

Happy Due Date! Wishing you a speedy delivery :) Enjoy!

  38. jessica 07.26.2013

as a fellow pregnant lady, I just burst into tears seeing your first picture. My husband and I are expecting our first child, a son, in October. Its one thing to say, “i’m having a baby”…. its another thing to say, “i’m having a son (or daughter)”. Its more tangible and rattles you at your core. So fellow mama, congrats. I’ll be thinking of you and your mama bear strength over the next few days.

    • Iowa Girl Eats 07.28.2013

Congratulations to you, Jessica! October will be here before you know it!!

  39. Lauryn 07.26.2013

Kristin!!! I have followed you since the days of you showing us breakfast dinner and lunch, love you and your blog! I am so so so excited to see your sweet baby boy!! You and Ben will make amazing parents! God bless you all!!

  40. Dee 07.26.2013

Good luck! All my babies were a week past the “due date” so by the time the 3rd one came along, I just added 7 days to the date they gave me and was spot on!

  41. Good luck!! I hope everything goes well for mom, dad, and the little guy.

  42. Dena 07.26.2013

Enjoying these Friday Favorites because it may be awhile before we see another one! I have to say, and everyone hates me for this (lol), but I’ve had 3 children and have never seen a due date without a baby in my arms. I think God knows my impatience and anxiety and decided to spare me the trauma. :) Here’s hoping you aren’t waiting much longer. Cannot WAIT to hear the name you’ve picked out. I’m feeling a “traditional” name from you – we’ll seeeee!

  43. Yay! I’m so excited for you guys! Good luck! Can’t wait to hear! Thanks for the Friday Favs as always! :)

  44. Good luck! Can’t wait to hear the great news!

  45. Carly 07.26.2013

Today would be a good day – it’s my birthday! Lucky day :) Great time of year to have a birthday. Best of luck with the delivery, congratulations!

  46. Carly 07.26.2013

Also, that Biscoff cake looks amazing! I just got back from Europe and “speculoos” cookie was everywhere! You should do a dessert post with the cookie butter, YUM!

  47. That headboard is SO cute and creative! I love the homemade feel of it.

  48. Kerry 07.26.2013

Eeekkk! How exciting! Hope for mama and baby to meet soon and with the littlest of pain! The cheesecake pops and the corn fritters look amazing! I need to make those crate bookshelves!

  49. Kelly K 07.26.2013

You will do great! They say spicy food helps to start labor if you feel like you need a little help! ;-)

My only labor advice is to speak up when you feel you need to. Just because this is your first delivery and you “don’t know what you are doing” doesn’t mean the doctors and nurses know what you need. Don’t be afraid to say: “I’m uncomfortable” or “This position isn’t working for me” or “I need…” Everything will be fine!

  50. Caitlin 07.26.2013

Good luck! I hope for a speedy delivery! Looking forward to “meeting” your little guy.
