Sick of salads but craving the health and hydration benefits? Drink your veggies in the form of a Green Monster Spinach Smoothie!

Green Monster Spinach Smoothies are one of my top secret diet weapons because, although they’re packed with baby spinach which make skin, hair, nails, and our overall selves feel totally great, they do not taste healthy at all.

I repeat, they do not taste healthy at all.

PLUS!

  • Spinach is fat free, cholesterol free, low in calories, and very low in sodium
  • Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin A, C, K, iron, fiber, folate, and lutein
  • Leutin is an antioxidant that promotes good eye health, and may help prevent cancer of the liver, ovaries, colon and prostate, and even dementia.
  • Dole lab tests found spinach juice has twice the chlorophyl, eight times the calcium, six times the magnesium, 10 times the potassium, 15 times the vitamin C and 43 times the vitamin A of wheatgrass juice!

Are you convinced yet? Well channel your inner Popeye and get to blending already!

To a high speed blender add a sliced frozen banana and peanut butter.

  • Tip: peel and slice your bananas BEFORE you freeze them.

Next add protein-packed vanilla Greek yogurt, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. You can truly use any kind of milk you want — cow’s, rice, soy, etc.

Fill the blender the rest of the way up with baby spinach. I usually get around 4 cups though you can use more or less if you like!

Blend until the Green Monster Smoothie is velvety smooth.

I almost feel guilty enjoying one of these babies, as it tastes like a sweet, indulgent ice cream shake. It’s perfect for breakfast, lunch or even a snack.

Someone shared this link with me and I have to admit, I was skeptical. I don’t like spinach (or any greens, really,) and I was sure it would be gross. But it was delicious! If I hadn’t made it myself, I would never have guessed spinach was an ingredient!

    Spinach??? Anything but spinach :(

I absolutely hate spinach and really began to like it after I tried a green smoothie the first time. It’s not like that terrible frozen stuff your parents forced you to eat as a kid. Promise.

  3. Jill says:

I make a similar smoothie but also add blueberries and beets. Yummy and healthy!

I love your recipe!! I’ve been doing mine with 50/50 frozen fruit and some type of green leafy veggie. I also use coconut water and sometimes orange juice. Love mixing different concoctions!! I also use some super foods such as wheat germ, flax seed or oil, ground hemp seed, bee pollen plus a lot more:)

  6. Tammy says:

will admit that green smoothies are awesome. I am SUPER surprised about the spinach juice having more of those nutrients than wheat grass. Never know!

Just made this for my 9 year old daughter and she said,”Looks can be deceiving. This is GREAT!” Thanks for posting such a yummy, healthy smoothie recipe. BTW – One of the members of my running group got us started on this smoothie and now a number of the members have tried it and loved it!!!!

Just want to say THANKS. My super finicky “cheesetarian” 9 year old son loves, loves, loves the spinach shake. He likes it with bananas and blueberries and even requests it for breakfast over Lucky Charms or any other sugar cereal. We have been searching for a healthy solution to his horrible eating habits and this was our answer. He doesn’t even care about the strange color the blueberries make it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Glad someone posted to Pinterest :o)

I LOVE this recipe. I used to live for the Peanut Butter Moo’d smoothie at Jamba Juice until I realized the calorie count. This is amazing! I am sharing and enjoying!

  10. Sheryl says:

My 4 year old boy, whose super picky, was super excited that he was drinking “The Green MONSTER” drink! I added frozen blueberries, skipped the Greek Yogurt, and added vanilla protein powder instead. It was delicious! After 4 hours hours, I’m still full from my noon drink!

  11. Jenn says:

Did what another reader suggested and made 2 alterations: Better’n Peanut Butter instead of regular PB and plain non-fat Greek yogurt instead of vanilla. Have to say I can’t tell the difference. Think I might add some protein powder to boost it up a bit. SO GOOD!!!

  12. Sarah says:

I do the normal frozen berries/banana, sometimes a handful of spinach, (cow) milk and greek yogurt.

We just made this and me and my 3 yr old LOVED it! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Susannah says:

I look forward to trying this this week! Can this replace an entire meal? Is it that filling?

I can’t wait to have my kids try it too. My son is super picky. I hope he likes it!
