Sick of salads but craving the health and hydration benefits? Drink your veggies in the form of a Green Monster Spinach Smoothie!

Green Monster Spinach Smoothies are one of my top secret diet weapons because, although they’re packed with baby spinach which make skin, hair, nails, and our overall selves feel totally great, they do not taste healthy at all.

I repeat, they do not taste healthy at all.

PLUS!

  • Spinach is fat free, cholesterol free, low in calories, and very low in sodium
  • Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin A, C, K, iron, fiber, folate, and lutein
  • Leutin is an antioxidant that promotes good eye health, and may help prevent cancer of the liver, ovaries, colon and prostate, and even dementia.
  • Dole lab tests found spinach juice has twice the chlorophyl, eight times the calcium, six times the magnesium, 10 times the potassium, 15 times the vitamin C and 43 times the vitamin A of wheatgrass juice!

Are you convinced yet? Well channel your inner Popeye and get to blending already!

To a high speed blender add a sliced frozen banana and peanut butter.

  • Tip: peel and slice your bananas BEFORE you freeze them.

Next add protein-packed vanilla Greek yogurt, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. You can truly use any kind of milk you want — cow’s, rice, soy, etc.

Fill the blender the rest of the way up with baby spinach. I usually get around 4 cups though you can use more or less if you like!

Blend until the Green Monster Smoothie is velvety smooth.

I almost feel guilty enjoying one of these babies, as it tastes like a sweet, indulgent ice cream shake. It’s perfect for breakfast, lunch or even a snack.

I love making these! I use greek yogurt and almond milk also but I usually add frozen blueberries or fresh strawberries if I have them on hand. The other thing I add is a bit of fresh ginger. I love the zing!

Any good substitutions for the yogurt? I am off all dairy while nursing my baby. I could try soy yogurt, I guess, but I know the Greek yogurt provides more protein.

    1. Iowa Girl Eats says:

I’ve made them without yogurt lots of times, adding protein powder and chia seeds instead. It’s just as thick!

    2. Ann says:

Try amande brand yogurt. It is made with cultured almond milk. http://amandeyogurt.com/ :)

That looks delish, but looks like the closest place that carries it is 45 min away. Will have to try without. :)

Recently discovered adding spinach to my morning smoothie, it is awesome. Other things that I add to your already great recipe: organic rolled oats and substitute almond butter (love the Barney Butter brand) for the peanut butter, and some ground flax, chia seeds and wheat germ that I have all mixed in the frige for salads etc…..WOW

  12. Stacey says:

I’ve loved these since I first saw them on your blog about 2 years ago – they are aaawesome! I love lemon yogurt with blueberries with it. Kinda looks odd with the blueberries ie: grey :) But it tastes awesome and so good for me!
