P.F. Chang's Lettuce Wraps copycat recipe tastes just like the restaurant's version, but are made a lot healthier, and gluten-free, at home!

I failed to tell you the entire culinary story of Ben’s and my Vegas Vacation…
Our first night there, feeling brave after a rather large can of Sapporo, we each dove face first into a Pinks Hotdog, whose newly opened location was strategically placed right outside our hotel. A Classic Dog for him, and a Rueben Dog for her.
One bite of the snappy casing, sour ‘kraut and salty pastrami and it was lights out. When in Vegas!
The other meal I failed to mention took place late one night after returning home from sipping cocktails and shooting craps at the casinos. I had previously turned up my nose to the P.F. Chang’s located in the lobby of our hotel, preferring to dine at non-chain restaurants for all major-meals while on vacation. But as I looked at the clock, I came to realize that it certainly wasn’t a major-meal hour of the day morning, and the smell wafting from the restaurant’s open doors smelled too good to resist.
Bring on the chain restaurant — and the Lettuce Wraps!
P.F.Chang’s Lettuce Wraps – I am telling you – salty, greasy, PERFECT. If you’ve ever had them, I bet you’ll agree. But sometimes they can be a little too greasy, know what I mean?
That’s why I decided to recreate.

Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken breast
- 1/2 onion, minced
- salt and pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 inch knob ginger, peeled & minced
- 2-1/2 Tablespoons gluten free reduced-sodium Tamari, or soy sauce if not gluten free
- 1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 Tablespoon smooth peanut butter
- 1/2 Tablespoon water
- 1/2 Tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce, or more if you like it hotter
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 4 oz can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped (half of a can)
- 1/4 cup peanuts, chopped
- 10-12 large outer lettuce leaves, rinsed and patted dry
Directions
- Heat a large, non-stick skillet on high. Add chicken, onion, salt & pepper, then cook until chicken is nearly done, stirring often to break up the meat. Add garlic and ginger then continue cooking until chicken is no longer pink.
- Meanwhile, in a microwave safe bowl, combine gluten-free Tamari or soy sauce, rice vinegar, oil, peanut butter, water, honey, chili garlic sauce and pepper. Microwave for 20 seconds, then stir until smooth. Add into the skillet and stir to combine.
- Add green onions and water chestnuts into the skillet then cook for 1-2 minutes until the onions are soft and the water chestnuts are heated through.
- Sprinkle with chopped peanuts, and serve with cold lettuce leaves.

My family has just become fans of lettuce wraps and I would love to be able to cook them at home. However, I noticed that your recipe uses peanut butter. Can I substitute something for the PB; I have a child who has a severe life threatening allergy to peanuts. We have eaten at PFChangs and don’t recall that PB was in the lettuce wraps served there.
These are fantastic! Second time I’ve made them and I don’t change a thing on the recipe! I feel like I can eat these without walking away with the greasy salty feeling PF Changs makes me feel.
I just made this for dinner. Yummy! I didn’t have a couple of the exact ingredients, but it still turned out super yummy. I used ground turkey and romaine lettuce instead. I also didn’t have any water chestnuts or green onion and I still wanted the crunch so I added finely chopped celery and carrots at the end with the peanuts. This was such a delicious dinner :). I just found these via livingwellspendingless.com, and they are fantastic. I was making ahead for my lunch tomorrow- (chopped up a leftover chicken breast), but I think I ate half just straight. My husband will be thrilled when he gets to have some!
I made these for dinner and my husband and I loved them! I followed the recipe exactly except for adding some fresh chopped jalapeno and it was delicious. I couldn’t get enough of them, we were both seriously in pain when we were done from stuffing ourselves…. soooo yummy
I’m so happy I found tour blog! I live in Vegas and I go to PF Changs once week just for the wraps. Now I can do it at home :) I was wondering where I can find the chili garlic sauce?Also what brand of that do you recommend? I cant wait to try this recipe!!!
I just found the sauce at the regular grocery store. It’s China Bowl Select brand!
My girlfriends & I get together once every 6 weeks or so to prepare meals for the month. This recipe has made it onto our rotation. All the kids & husbands in all three families love it. In fact, my hubby requests it in EVERY rotation, so when we don’t make it with the girls, I prep it at home on my own for him.
On my own, I have used ground turkey for convenience. We liked that too.
Lastly, when we are cooking this recipe in bulk, we buy breasts at the butcher & have it ground there.

In case you are wondering how we freeze it… We dump the raw chicken, garlic & ginger in a freezer bag, put the sauce ingredients in a separate bag, then into chicken bag (to keep it all together), then dice the green onion into a third bag, label & freeze. Cooking day we have a can of water chestnuts in the pantry ready (they can be adde already diced to the green onion baggie too if you want)
& lettuce in the fridge. Viola! Dump & cook.
Hi! This recipe looks great! I have tried to make lettuce wraps in the past and have been disappointed with the lettuce portion. It always has a white strip of the watery stuff down the middle. Yours however, looks perfect!
What kind of lettuce did you use? Thanks a bunch!
It’s just iceberg lettuce. Bibb lettuce would be great too!
