It was such a springy weekend – I just didn’t want to come inside! Both Saturday and Sunday had their points of dreariness and rain at one point or another, but that didn’t stop Ben and me from getting out and about.
Saturday I had my very first baby shower which had a bow tie theme – whee!
My Mom’s dear friend Luann (of Luann’s Kale Salad!) and her daughter Heidi threw the shower and had the theme picked out before Ben and I even went to Charleston and snagged some baby gentleman gear. It was a perfect fit.
These two know how to throw a party and thought of absolutely everything. I think party planning is a real skill, and they totally nailed it.
From onesies with detachable bow ties hanging from a line for me to take home (Note to self: get a mustache on a stick for hilarious photo opps!) to bow tied napkin and utensil packages,
my favorite Scratch Cupcakes (Wedding Cake and Blackout!) with bow tie printables,
and a bow tie-themed menu – there were just so many thoughtful touches that my guests and I absolutely loved. (How adorable is that quote, btw? Snif!)
We laughed and chatted while devouring fresh, yummy foods and cupcakes, naturally, and opening gifts. I’m sort of loving baby showers compared to bridal showers where all the attention is on the baby stuff, and not necessarily me. ;Â )
Thank you Luann and Heidi for such a wonderful afternoon. I cannot thank you enough!
So, Ben has been craving pasta Primavera for a while now…and I’ve never made it before! I always think of you and your blog as a go to when I want to try a new recipe as I know that you wouldn’t lead me astray and I could trust it’d be delicious! Thanks goodness for your search function! The recipe was a total hit and I definitely know we will make it again adding different vegetables as they come into season. As always, thank you Kristen! :)
Oh I’m so glad to hear it, Kelsey!! You are too kind to think of me, and I’m so happy this recipe pleased YOUR Ben. I wrote this post in 2013 but I still remember MY Ben gobbling it down. ;)
Do you have the nutritional info for this recipe. I’m on a lowfat, heart healthy food plan. Thanks a bunch!
I’m sorry Annette, I don’t, but you could use an online nutrition calculator tool like Livestrong’s! http://livestrong.com/recipes/create/
Thanks for a great dish! I was sold when I saw the list of delish veggies in this recipe! It definitely lives up to its name and the expectations I had when I saw the pic! I put a spin on it to make it a little saucier and a tad more rich and heavy and added some Alfredo sauce! I have tried many variations by adding shrimp for s light taste and chicken with the Alfred to make it more heavy and ‘wintry’ (if you will)! It’s decadent and delicious any way I’ve tried it! It’s my go-to and favorite dish of all I make! Thanks again for such a versatile dish!
YUM – that sounds absolutely delicious, Lindsey! Thanks so much for the feedback!

This looks so delicious. I’d love to serve it at a get-together this weekend. Do you think it would be okay to make it in advance, and then either reheat it or serve it cold?
Hi Sarah! This dish will taste best fresh so I would not recommend making it ahead of time!

Well, now I feel like a stalker, but REALLY small world. I just posted that I thought I went to school with your brother, and then I see a photo of my good friend Heidi and her mom at your shower. (Reading old posts as I’m home sick today and kids have control of TV!) That whole family is some of the best people I know! Heidi threw me a shower for my first baby too. Anyway, congrats to you. Enjoying your blog. I’m new to the “blogosphere”, but a few friends led me to yours.
Oh my gosh, too funny! Yep we’re all Valley kids then! :)
And the cutest pregnant lady award goes to? You! Looking good!
Made this last night – so yummy!
