Got a sweet and fruity, tropical smoothie for you to try sometime this weekend – Tropical Pineapple, Mango & Orange Smoothie with a super-orange, vitamin-packed twist!
(By the way, I didn’t think it was possible, but orange food is even more impossible to shoot than red food, which is really saying something!)
Anyway! The inspiration behind this recipe came from McDonald’s Pineapple & Mango Smoothie. Judge me. I had a sample of it at the BlogHer conference I went to several years ago and have legit been thinking about it ever since. On the 5+ hour drive home from Chicago last weekend I was super restless and needed something to take my mind off the blinding rain coupled with cars who don’t use cruise control, so I pulled off the road a couple hours away from home and ordered a big and frosty smoothie to sip on. Ahhhh. It was just as good as I remembered!
Back at home I set out creating a copycat recipe that ended up tasting just like the Mc-E-Dees version – except I added a bright orange veggie to provide a little boost of nutrients and color. Carrots! The result is a thick, smooth-as-silk drink that’s great for breakfast, an afternoon treat, or cool evening snack. This was so good – very tropical-island tasting!
Start by combining 1 cup frozen mango chunks (about 1 mango,) 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, and 1/2 frozen banana in your blender. No, you can’t taste the banana – it just helps amplify the tropical flavor of the smoothie.
Next add 2 chopped raw carrots for a boost of vitamins and vibrant orange color.
Now, this ingredient is optional and I only recommend adding if you have a blender that has a “whole juice” or “juice” setting like a Blendtec > (which is what I have) Vitamix, or something comparable. Throwing raw carrots into a standard blender will not turn out well, me thinks. No worries if you can’t include it – this smoothie will still taste GREAT, it will just be more yellow in color instead of orange.
Next add a 6oz Pineapple Chobani Greek Yogurt.Â
Finally add 1/2 – 3/4 cup Orange-Mango Juice. I used about 3/4 cup but use whatever works for your blender. Some need more than others to get going. And if you can’t find this particular juice, just use regular orange juice.
Pop a lid on your blender and let ‘er rip! FYI – I used the “whole juice” setting on my Blendtec.
The result is an impossibly thick and creamy smoothie. Like silk!
Pour the smoothie into glasses, and enjoy!

Great Work, Keep it up.
Wow, this looks great! Can’t wait to try this. I just wanted to add – I’m not fortunate enough to have an awesome blender like the Vitamix, etc. but I add carrots to my smoothies all the time. I buy the bags of shredded carrots and just toss in a handful. Works great! :o)

Just made this smoothie… it’s absolutely delicious. Thanks again for another great recipe. You are by far the best blog I read.
I used Whole Foods carrot juice instead of whole carrots since I don’t have a juicing blender. Turned out great! I needed a new smoothie since I was getting burnt out on my usual. I also added old fashioned oats and chia seeds for an added boost. Yum!

I made this smoothie to get me through my morning today and can I just say YUM?! Unfortunately, I have a crappy, yet faithful, blender and couldn’t incorporate beautiful orange carrots and added frozen peaches instead of mango (I am notorious for picking the one HORRIBLE mango in the bunch every time). I included chai seeds for even MORE staying power and I can’t wait to try a different combo tomorrow!! Two thumbs up once again for your creative colorful food, Kristin!

I’ve been on a smoothie kick recently so I’m definitely going to try this out! Plus, I just stocked up on mangos too!
oh mannnn… the only thing I’m missing is the juice.
I have just gotten hooked on McD’s smoothie, but not the how it hits my pocketbook. So, I have gotten the ingredients to make my own at home, but have been unable to get the intense pineapple flavor without using a large amount of the fruit. I didn’t think about using pineapple yogurt (I used vanilla). I also thought about using pineapple juice concentrate and mixing it with the mango, pineapple chunks and juice (I use apple instead of orange because of acidity). I will look into the yogurt before the concentrate.
I just so happen to have all of these ingredients so I know what I’m making tomorrow!
This looks amazeballs! Want want want!
Okay, I think I want one of those every morning. Just seems like something that would be a great wake up drink.
I’m also dying to try McD’s new blueberry pomegranate smoothie! LOVE the orange mango one, too! Can’t wait to make this at home! Thx!
This smoothie looks absolutely delightful! Love Chobani yogurt :)
Question if you have time: How did you choose the Bendtec blender over a Vitamix? I’m looking for a new, high speed blender and can’t choose! Going to make this smoothie. Borrowing my friend’s VMix right now. : )
Shannon-
In regards to Bendtec blender over a Vitamix, I’ve never used either but Consumer Reports just rated them and Vitamix beat out Bendtec, If I’m remembering correctly. But, the top blender was a $60 Ninja!
