I am this excited to share today’s Week of Thanksgiving Favorites recipe with you: Party Potatoes Deluxe!
I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!! (Hey, there’s a time and a place for multi exclamation points, and this is definitely it!)
Party Potatoes Deluxe is my Mom’s specialty potato dish that she serves every year for not only Thanksgiving, but also Christmas, Easter and every special occasion in between. I can’t remember a single holiday over the last 25+ years where it hasn’t been served.
In case you hadn’t picked up on it, butter puts the deluxe in Party Potatoes Deluxe. And the party, for that matter. It gives the creamy dish a rich and decadent flavor, and the crushed cornflake crumbs on top an audible crunch.
While mashed potatoes & gravy will always have their place at the Thanksgiving table, my family will always make room for Party Potatoes Deluxe!

Party Potatoes Deluxe
Description
Party Potatoes Deluxe are a staple at my family's holiday get-togethers. Creamy, crunchy, and decadent!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, divided
- 1lb country-style frozen hash browns, thawed
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 can condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup crushed corn flakes
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt 1/4 cup butter in an 8x8 casserole dish in the oven while it heats.
- Meanwhile, combine hash browns, green onion, sour cream, cheese and soup in a large bowl. Transfer mixture to the casserole dish after the butter has melted. Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
- Melt remaining 1/4 cup butter in the microwave, then mix with crushed cornflakes. Sprinkle on top of the potatoes then bake for 15 more minutes.

This ultimate potato dish is definitely a bit high on the calorie scale, but for a special holiday, it’s worth the splurge. Hope you’ll give it a shot (I know Iowa Mom Eats would be very pleased!)
[…] I’m off to spend the rest of the week with my family, pausing to stuff my face with Party Potatoes Deluxe, Sweet Potato Stuffed Baked Apples, and Grandma’s Holiday Salad on Thursday, of course! […]
we just call them mom’s potatoes and make them every year. do not use toppings and they seem to fit a 9/13 pan quite easily. lost the original recipe when i moved but can use recipes on line…..
You can run 7.5 mph on a treadmill ???? wow good for you
Hello, Iowa!)
I have a question and it’s very important for me)
The photo of your mom’s potatoes just crushed me! And I want to cook it myself so much) But this ingredient “1lb country-style frozen hash browns, thawed”… I don’t know what it is, I live in Russia and there is no anything like that in our shops. What can replace that? Might it be grated potatoes? Or chopped?
Thank you very much in advance!)
Oh my God, this is so good looking and I want it now! Simple, filling, satisfying.

Double it and use a 9×13 pan and that should work too – yummy – french fried onions on top are my favorite too! :)
This is almost the exact recipe of my fave brunch/potluck potato dish. My recipe happens to have the addition of cream cheese and doesn’t use the cream of chicken. UBER YUMMY! (Just made them today for church as a matter of fact). Think I’ll have to try this recipe too and compare. :)
Hi there! How much cream cheese and how? Ty

I tried it with brummel and brown, fat free sour cream, low fat cheese, healthy choice cream of celery, and fiber one flakes. It was STILL sooo good. Thanks for an awesome recipe! I also added parsley and garlic for extra flavor (since I booted the fatty flavor lol)
This is a favorite in our world especially on Christmas and Easter

I was scared that these things contained a TON of butter. Maybe I’ll make a light version this year… but they won’t taste anything like yours!
This is BY FAR one of my FAV ways to have potatoes, and we always seem to make them for Easter. But I’m a FREAK about having good ole mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. I think this is all due to the fact that the first Tgiving I spent with my boyfriend’s (now husband’s) family THEY.DIDN’T.HAVE.MASHED POTATOES.GASP!!!! (who does that???) Trust me, I have NEVER let that happen again!
I make these potatoes for work potlucks and family get-togethers. They are ALWAYS a hit, and the dish is always swiped clean! If you don’t have cornflakes on hand, crushed Ritz crackers make a great substitute.
My mom makes this all the time for us at home mostly with steak dinners or for holidays. Instead of cornflakes she uses potato chips. Nothing fancy just regular potato chips with the butter on top. So good!!!! happy to see another good recipe on here
This is the same recipe our church uses for our annual fall bazaar ham ball dinner. We all make pans of potato casserole to serve along with the ham balls. It is the yummiest I’ve ever had! Great….now I want some even though I just weaned myself off of it!
My mom makes this for Christmas and Thanksgiving, too! Looooove it!
Glad to know I’m not the only one who loves the word blerg . . . I’m such a dork I have it on my license plate :-)
That. is. AWESOME! :D
