Today’s recipe for Homemade Gluten-Free Seasoned Salt falls under the “things you didn’t know you needed until you had them” category. Other contenders include remote starters on vehicles (did I mention how cold it is here?!) understanding how dog’s really drink water (umm,) and self-closing umbrellas (my in-laws got us one for Christmas and let me tell you – game changer!) Oh and Google Maps. What in the WORLD did we all do before Google Maps? Road atlas’…the horror!
Anyway, over the holidays I shared a recipe for Gluten-Free Chex Mix which called for homemade seasoned salt to flavor each delectable bite. It was as simple as looking at the ingredients on a bottle of Lawry’s online, then snagging the individual seasonings from my spice cupboard and mixing them together. Sans tricalcium phosphate, a key ingredient in Lawry’s, which I happened to be out of at the time.
(That’s a joke.)
ANYWAY, the homemade seasoned salt turned out so well that I made a huge batch of it to keep on my tray o’ seasonings and oils, conveniently located next to our stove, and have been adding it to pretty much everything I’ve simmered and sauted since.
Talk about a game changer!
4 ingredients – salt, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder – combine to make a pumped up, everyday, all-purpose seasoning that adds a ton of flavor to dishes without extra calories, fat, or effort, really. Mix up a batch then season away for days. Here’s how I’ve been using mine.
10 Ways to Use Gluten Free Seasoned Salt
- Hard boiled eggs – slice, season, eat.
- Salads – sprinkle seasoned salt on top of greens then dress with lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. Per-fec-tion.
- Meats – season chicken, pork or steak then grill or saute away.
- Guacamole – mash together ripe avocado, seasoned salt, and lime juice then devour.
- Popcorn – spritz with a little extra virgin olive oil then sprinkle on seasoned salt. Crazy addicting.
- Vegetables – adding a dash to Lincoln’s steamed broccoli has been a runaway hit.
- Burgers – season ground beef with the blend then add Worcestershire sauce and pepper.
- Sweet Potato Fries – a family favorite! Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over sliced sweet potatoes then toss with seasoned salt and roast for 15-25 minutes at 425.
- Soups – a dash or 20 added to Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup? DIVINE.
- Mushrooms – saute sliced mushrooms in olive oil until the liquid has evaporated then season and continue to cook until golden brown.
While these 10 foods are complimented perfectly by the homemade gluten-free seasoned salt, there’s no limit to what you can add it to – including the recipe coming later this week. Blend up a batch and get ready!

So sea salt, iodized, or kosher salt…grain sizes will make a difference. Thanks in advance for the additional details.
I love your seasoned salt recipe. I use it on so many of my foods. I am on a gluten, dairy and corn free diet and this seasoned salt has definitely brought back some zest into my meager diet!
Simply I thought it was going to be one of those spice bombs, but no it adds lots of flavor to favor :).
Loved the Hamburger soup and this Seasoning salt recipe — both are keepers!!
Love to hear that, Keri! Both are staples at my house!!
Hi Kristen, Your seasoned salt recipe sounds great. I’m wondering how long it typically lasts since I’m thinking of making some for Christmas gifts (& I like to include a Best by date.) Please let me know. Happy Holidays & Happy Cooking!!
I usually say 3 months in a cool, dry place but it would honestly be find for a year. Just check the expire date on the seasonings before mixing to ensure they’re fresh.
This salt is so good without all the junk in it, I put it on most of the meat before I cook it and it seasons it up perfectly. Thank you for the simple but great little recipe!
I’m so glad you love it, Kathy!!
I too am from Iowa!!! The seasoning salt would be very good. Many years ago I owned a catering business in Iowa and used seasoning salt. It has other things but seems to work well with all I cook. Salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, paprika, parsley, celery salt and a dash of cayenne pepper. My 85th birthday is coming soon but still cook. No one told me when I was young I would have to cook three meals a day 365 days a year for this long!!!
Love the idea of adding celery sale, especially – YUM!! Happy early birthday to you, Nina!!
Wow!!! This seasoning is amazing!!! Just made air fryer potato wedges with it… finger licking good!!
Whoop whoop!! So glad you like it, Adri! Thank you so much for your feedback and recipe rating!
What would the reason be to not use smoked? How much of a difference is the flavor?
Hi Suzi! I find smoked paprika to be very strongly flavored and doesn’t pair well with as many foods as regular paprika does – it make everything you add it to taste a little smokey. If that’s ok with you though, you could use smoked!
I see pepper on your tray but none in the recipe. Why ? I would like to make this. I have tried several from several bloggers, and none of them work for me…this might, but I think it needs at least a bit of pepper. Not a huge pepper fan. Please let me know directly. [email protected]
This is so good. I’ve made multiple batches and add it to just about everything. I love the shaker idea…works perfectly!
I’m so glad to hear that! Yes, the shaker makes it so convenient and easy to use!
I followed your directions to a tee including your special season salt. It was so yummy! This is certainly a dish that my family will want to have often. I most definitely will keep this recipe in my files.
So glad you enjoy this recipe, Cindy!
