I love Thanksgiving. Can’t believe IGE isn’t all over it though :)
We’re hosting for the first time this year – with just friends since family is halfway across the country. Still managed to get 11 people coming. I’m making from-scratch green bean casserole, cranberry chutney, bacon wrapped apricots w/sage, and a Thanksgiving-inspired cheese ball with dried cranberries, cheddar, neufatchel cheese, green onion, worchestershire, ginger, garlic, and walnuts. It’s going to be a feast to top all feasts. Can’t wait! Happy Thanksgiving!

Not necessarily a thanksgiving dish, but my hubby’s grandma did let me cook White Bean Chicken Chili for dinner tonight! I’m sure any casserole recipe you found would be amazing! :) Happy Thanksgiving!

I’d make the potato dish and bring it anyway! Never too many potatoes at dinner. hehe :)
We do all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes, we’re simple eaters. Well, my mom and husband are, anyway. I’d get all exotic if they’d eat it. :P

Ha ha, that’s funny. I’m going to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow and she asked ME to bring the rolls. If you don’t end up buying them, here’s a recipe that I’m making right now. They look good so far so I hope they turn out well.

And as far as traditions go? Just eating. All day. Until we’re sick : )

My mom doesn’t really enjoy cooking and she knows my hubby really does so she had him prepare a “rub” for her turkey and she asked him to bring the stuffing, and he wants to make green bean casserole. So I am bringing sweet potato pie (from Mrs. Smith’s) that I randomly saw in the store one day and decided I must try! I’m planning not to tell anyone that it’s sweet potato and let them think it’s pumpkin and see if they even notice! I just started cooking in the past couple years so my skills aren’t noticed my others quite yet. :)

I’m taking corny mac & cheese, a nice lettuce salad w/Gino’s Italian Dressing, and a wonderful Cran-Raspberry layered Jello dessert. (My grandmas would call it a “salad”, but to me it’s a dessert item!). And I can vouch for the previous gal who said the Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls are super good…cuz they ARE! For store bought they cannot beat! People will LOVE them!!

Since starting school two years ago, I’ve always stayed at Iowa and worked over Thanksgiving break (that way I can usually get all of Spring Break off–helllloooo road trips!). This means my parents have made the trek up to IC to see me each year. Our new Thanksgiving tradition? Texas Roadhouse. Now THOSE are some excellent rolls :) :)

You could also make rolls ;)

My mom kinda did the same thing to me. “You can bring the cool whip.” Say what!? I finally talked her into giving me the green bean cassarole at least. And a pumpkin cake…which I always make.
My mom always makes everyone watch Christmas Vacation after the meal. My hubs and I usually slip out then to go see his parents though. ;)
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, lady! Enjoy!

This is the best breakfast dish I’ve had in a long time. I went to visit a friend in Nashville this past weekend and she cooked me a Southern dish!
Breakfast Strata
10 slices white bread
2 c mild cheddar cheese shredded
2 c sharp cheddar cheese shredded
1 lb sausage
6 eggs, beaten
3 c milk
3/4 t dry mustard
pepper
1/2 t salt
Remove crust from bread. Cut into cubes. Fry sausage remove grease. Place a layer of bread into a well greased pyrex. I use Pam… Top with a layer of sharp cheese, sausage, another layer of bread and then the mild cheese. Dissolve the mustard in 2 to 3 T of milk. Combine the beaten eggs, milk, mustard salt and pepper. Pour mixture over casserole and cover and refigerate over night. When ready to cook bake at 325 uncovered for 1 hour and 15 minutes…. You can cook your sausage today and refig and assemble tomorrow.

ohhh – I get rolls and desserts this year! Oreo truffles watch out! (Pure EVIL!), Rolls – homemade sweet yeast bread rolls – CANNOT have store bought rolls – disgusting in comparison! (lol – sorry – some things can’t do without!)
breakfast – Breakstones had yummy scones – I thought maybe I could use yogurt instead to try to lower cholesterol for my jolly ol hubby! Or maybe strata – or bread pudding – bread pudding ohh – yeah!
Doug 11.24.2010
Sounds great. I’ve definitely had great meals where the rolls were still the highlight. Enjoy your challenge there. :)

It’s not a family tradition, but a friend tradition, we run the Turkey Day 5k here in Mpls every year. Makes me feel a little better about the amount of food I eat later. This year it is going to be mighty cold!
